Yoshikawa was established as a culinary Ryokan after World War II, located near the Kyoto Imperial Palace in the heart of Rakuchu. The garden, known as "Taikyoen," is said to have been designed by Enshu Kobori and retains some features from the Edo period. The Sukiya-style building, once a residence of a wealthy merchant, offers an atmosphere of tranquility and charm that feels far removed from the bustling city. Enjoy creative kaiseki cuisine featuring mountain delicacies personally foraged by our head chef and seasonal ingredients from Azumino. Our Japanese-modern guest rooms, renovated in March 2020, come in three types inspired by signature Shinshu colors. Relax in our soft-feeling alkaline simple Onsen, available in a stone-lined open-air bath and a spacious large public bath. The Yugawara Onsen area, celebrated even in the ancient Manyoshu anthology, is renowned as a place where high-quality Onsen waters flow. Surrounded by famous hot springs, scenic views of the sea and mountains, and abundant local ingredients, it has long been cherished as a destination for leisure and relaxation. In particular, from the mid-Meiji period, many literary figures such as Doppo Kunikida, Natsume Soseki, Akiko Yosano, and Junichiro Tanizaki visited, fostering its development as a place for creativity and camaraderie. The history of Fujiya Ryokan is long-standing, with records indicating that its predecessor, an Onsen inn, existed as far back as the late Edo period. In fact, buildings from the end of the Edo era remained until 1968. According to the "Yugawara Guide" published in 1918, Fujiya Ryokan began as an Onsen Ryokan in 1876, and at the time, it was poetically named "Shuhoen." Crossing the Nagahashi Bridge over the Fujiki River, visitors would find a spacious property with pavilions and annexes, where flowers bloomed year-round. During the Meiji era, Fujiya Ryokan, Itoya Ryokan, Nakanishi Ryokan, and Amanoya were said to have formed a beautiful landscape with their main buildings, annexes, and other structures nestled amidst rich natural surroundings and gardens.

The newly renovated "East Wing - Ginsen Semi-Open-Air Special Room," featuring 12 rooms, reopened on October 26, 2022, with state-of-the-art infection prevention facilities for a safe and comfortable stay in the With-COVID era.The "East Wing - Ginsen Semi-Open-Air Special Room" is equipped with high-performance heat exchange ventilation systems throughout the room to ensure proper air circulation. Additionally, touchless automatic doors are installed at the entrance and restroom for enhanced hygiene. The semi-open-air Onsen bath using Ginsen water also includes a mist sauna to warm your body from the inside out. Founded in Keio 3 (1867), this Property features a sukiya-style architecture. To pursue the ultimate hospitality, the number of guest rooms was reduced to just three during renovations. While it is a pure Japanese-style building made with Akita cedar in the sukiya style, the reinforced concrete (RC) structure ensures safety and tranquility within the Property. There are no open-air baths in the guest rooms and no elevators in the Property, as it focuses on cuisine and hospitality. Using mainly local ingredients, we offer seasonal delicacies without being bound by tradition. We also pay great attention to tableware, ranging from Kaga maki-e pieces over 100 years old to works by contemporary craft artists, ensuring a visual delight as well. Wi-Fi is available throughout the Property. Allergy-friendly meals are available for even a single guest.
