At the foot of Mount Asama, where Choju-ro is located, you’ll find a variety of distinctive wineries (including Manns Wines), craft beer breweries, and historic sake breweries scattered throughout the area. With long hours of sunshine and dramatic day-to-night temperature swings, this climate produces excellent wine; clear spring water supports traditional sake brewing; and high-quality water combined with a cool climate creates outstanding beer—this region’s unique terroir has long been crafting truly delicious drinks. During your trip, we encourage you to visit these breweries and distilleries to discover the makers’ stories and experience the beauty of this land. After your tasting journey, return to Choju-ro and unwind in the calm atmosphere of our traditional house as you savor a drink at your own pace, lingering over the day’s memories. We hope to offer time that gently relaxes every guest—and makes your journey all the richer.

Chojuro was built about 100 years ago by the previous owner’s predecessor, Mr. Chokichi Ogihara, as “General Store Chojuro.” Later, the previous owner, Mr. Takeo, carried on the name and opened “Yakitori Chojuro” as a relaxing gathering place for the community. For many years, this place has remained close to everyday life in the town. We have inherited that spirit and name and reopened this 100-year-old house as “Travel Accommodation Chojuro.” We will carry this cherished building into the next era and nurture it as a place that adds quiet warmth to every guest’s journey.

Chojuro is located in the historic town center, just a short walk from Komoro Station. The area is home to the Komoro Castle Ruins “Kaikoen,” along with traditional townhouses and storehouse-style buildings, offering a sense of history as you stroll—while new shops continue to open, making it an up-and-coming neighborhood. Enjoy a pleasant walk at an easy pace among old and new shops, and take in the atmosphere where history and everyday life blend naturally.

A short drive away, you can easily reach a wide variety of attractions—from Karuizawa’s nature and strolling through town to exploring Ueda’s rich history. The soothing sounds of Shiraito Falls, the sweeping scenery at the foot of Mt. Asama, and the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza for shopping are all within easy day-trip distance. With nature, history, and town walks all close at hand, you can mix and match to suit your travel style.
