The charm of the four seasons, Genji fireflies and maiko dance, and the famous Botan hot pot.

This Hotel lets you enjoy the charm of every season. In spring, cherry blossoms and fresh greenery; in summer, dinner on a riverside platform and Genji fireflies; in autumn, a kaiseki meal with autumn leaves and matsutake mushrooms; and in winter, botan hot pot enjoyed under a kotatsu. We also serve delicious dishes year-round, including sukiyaki, shabu-shabu, and wagyu steak grilled on a hot stone plate. Savor Kyoto’s four seasons and Kyoto cuisine while spending a relaxing time with us.

Takao: Kyoto Through the Four Seasons

Though located within Kyoto City, Takao is a place surrounded by mountains and a river. Here, you can spend time at the pace of the seasons—different from sightseeing around Kyoto. In spring, fresh pale greenery wraps the valley; in summer, deep green foliage and the murmur of the river bring cool relief. In autumn, the mountains glow with vibrant fall colors, and in winter, crisp air and stillness sharpen the scenery. In Takao, there’s no need to plan anything special. Take a quiet morning walk nearby when it’s less crowded, then spend the afternoon in your Room reading a book or simply gazing out the window. Not a trip to do things, but a way of staying in Kyoto that allows you to do nothing. That is how to enjoy Takao.

Fireflies Dancing in the Quiet Nights of Kaohsiung

In Takao, you can usually see fireflies from around mid-June to early July each year. The exact timing and how they appear varies slightly depending on the year’s weather and temperatures, but they are easiest to spot around 8:00 PM, after sunset when the surroundings begin to quiet down. Appearing with the changing seasons and quietly fading away is a scene unique to Takao’s fireflies. The stillness by the river and the lingering afterglow of your meal come together to deepen this seasonal story.

Experience Kyoto Traditions: Maiko Plan

From June to August, we offer special summer dates featuring dining on the riverside platform with a visit from a maiko. Enjoy watching her dance and experience the beauty of her graceful movements and elegant attire up close. In the tranquil setting of Takao, this time with a maiko alongside your meal offers a calm cultural experience you won’t find amid the city’s bustle.

About Hygiene Measures
At check-in, all travelers will undergo temperature checks and identity verification while implementing infection prevention measures, such as avoiding direct face-to-face contact. Travelers will undergo health checks, including temperature measurement, and in cases of fever or cold symptoms, appropriate actions will be taken based on the instructions of the public health center, including weekends. For the use of shared Facilities such as baths and dining areas, measures such as limiting the number of users and setting time restrictions will be implemented to thoroughly prevent the "Three Cs" (closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings). Efforts will be made to innovate the methods of serving meals and to ensure sufficient spacing between seats to thoroughly prevent the "Three Cs" during dining. Disinfection and ventilation of guest rooms and shared spaces will be thoroughly implemented. The above measures will be publicly announced, such as through displays at the front desk. During check-in at the Property, travelers will be thoroughly informed of the rules they must follow. Additionally, group travel by young people, group travel by elderly individuals who are at higher risk of severe illness, and trips involving large banquets are generally considered high-risk and should be avoided. However, if such trips are conducted, they should be based on the premise that thorough infection prevention measures, such as those for school trips or educational trips, are implemented, and the importance of conducting the trip appropriately will be thoroughly communicated.
