A Downtown Tokyo Onsen Ryokan for a Brief Escape in Setagaya-Daita

Just 10 minutes from the city center, unwind as if you’ve escaped to a secluded Onsen town in the mountains. Sip tea at your leisure in a thoughtfully prepared Room, soak in a spacious bath that soothes you to the core, and savor Japan’s seasonal flavors with your body warmly restored. A brief retreat from the city’s bustle and everyday demands, created for you to enjoy a moment of true rest. Setagaya Daita was once lined with tea fields and long cherished by many writers. While carrying that history forward, Yuen Bettei will continue to take root here. Stroll along the greenway leading from the Ryokan and enjoy exploring Shimokitazawa— a neighborhood where you can discover distinctive shops and theater.

  • Thank you for your hospitality. The bath was wonderful, and the breakfast was plentiful with many healthy options. My son who lives in Tokyo stopped by to take a break and enjoy the bath, and we really appreciated being able to relax until it was time to go out for a meal. We would love to visit again.

  • It was a quiet, relaxing, and stylish Accommodation. From the Setagaya-Daita ticket gate, the lush green path felt like arriving at a sightseeing spot you’d never expect to find in the city center—it was wonderful. The late-night ochazuke and breakfast were both delicious, the Room was spotless, and I slept soundly—an excellent staycation. I worried the bath might be crowded if there were day-use guests, but it wasn’t at all; when I went at night and in the morning, no one else was there and I could enjoy it all to myself. It was very clean. There’s no cleansing oil or face wash in the bathing area, so bring them from your Room.I couldn’t make it to the tea lounge or bar because I was too full, but everything looked delicious. My child happened to be calm so it worked out well, but since this is a tranquil Accommodation, energetic kids might stand out. I didn’t see many families with children. Also, there are shoji screens in the Room, so if your child might tear them you may feel on edge during your stay. At meals they provided a child’s chair and cutlery for us, which was extremely helpful.Going far for an Onsen can be tough, but here you can relax and enjoy an Onsen and great food with satisfaction comparable to an Onsen resort—right in central Tokyo—so I highly recommend it!

Introduction of the Accommodation

Exterior
A touch of mountain-village charm in the midst of the city bustle. A quiet space to soothe both body and mind.

In the early 16th century, cultured merchants in Kyoto and Sakai, while practicing the tea ceremony, cherished the spirit of “a mountain retreat within the city”—creating a place that, amid the bustle of urban life, could make one feel as if they were in a quiet mountain village. For those who live busy days, we hope that simply stepping inside will feel like arriving at a Ryokan summer retreat nurtured by Japan’s climate—where you can quietly restore mind and body in nature.
