  • Notice of the Introduction of the Accommodation Tax in Hokkaido and Sapporo City

    In Hokkaido and Sapporo City, the Accommodation Tax will be introduced for stays from April 1, 2026.
    The Accommodation Tax will be used to enhance the added value of tourism, improve and strengthen tourism services and infrastructure, and reinforce crisis response capabilities.

    The following tax amounts will be charged based on the Accommodation Fee per person per night (total of Hokkaido and Sapporo City Accommodation Taxes):

    Accommodation Fee under JPY 20,000: JPY 300
    Accommodation Fee from JPY 20,000 to under JPY 50,000: JPY 400
    Accommodation Fee of JPY 50,000 or more: JPY 1,000

    Even if a Reservation is made before April 1, 2026 (the introduction date), the Accommodation Tax will apply to stays on or after April 1.
