    My birthday is July 17, so for decades I’ve made it a tradition to go see the Gion Festival around my birthday. I’m used to the festival, but… I had always stayed at a well-known large Hotel with parking. However, it wasn’t very convenient for getting around, and this year I was traveling with my elderly sister, so I decided to try The Gate Hotel Kyoto in the float district.And wow—my old ideas about Hotels were completely overturned. The layout and flow inside the building were excellent, and even though check-in and check-out were pleasantly efficient, the staff were wonderful. The lounge and restaurant were also very comfortable.What I appreciated most was the late-night snack: an ochazuke (bubuzuke) buffet. We were exhausted from walking around the festival and couldn’t really eat much, but being able to have a light meal at the Hotel was such a relief. The ochazuke was easy to eat, and the broth was delicious.I’ve stayed at many Hotels, but this truly let me experience how things are done today. It’s an Accommodation that makes me want to stay there even when it’s not Gion Festival season.Thank you again—I’ll be back.

  • The Pre-Festival and the Hotel

    I stayed here because I wanted to take my time enjoying the lanterns lighting up the festival floats. Being able to experience the Gion Festival just a 1-minute walk from the Hotel was perfect for me. I really appreciated the lounge service offering drinks and snacks outside of meal hours, and I enjoyed it a lot. Breakfast was also delicious. Thank you very much.
