A private, whole-house rental Accommodation limited to one group per day, “Sumire-an,” located near Nijo Castle—famous as the historic stage of the late Edo period’s Taisei Hokan (return of governing authority to the Emperor). Also close by is Kyoto Sanjo-kai Shopping Street, an 800-meter covered arcade lined with around 180 shops. This fully private machiya townhouse has been renovated into a space where you can experience the traditions of Kyoto townhouses and the rhythm of everyday life in Kyoto. With gardenia-colored plaster walls that blend with stone-paved alleys, lattice windows, and ichimonji roof tiles, it offers an authentic Kyoto machiya atmosphere. Featuring a living room facing a small courtyard garden, a lounge filled with light filtering through latticework, a bathroom with a hinoki cypress bath, and a kitchen for self-catering, it comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests. 1. As this is a historic wooden building, open flames are strictly prohibited and smoking is not permitted anywhere in the Accommodation.
2. This is a private machiya rental, so staff are not on-site at all times; however, an emergency contact number is registered on a dedicated mobile phone. Please contact us in an emergency and we will respond promptly.
3. This Accommodation is a renovated machiya that was originally used as a private residence. There are neighboring buildings, and local residents live nearby. We kindly ask for your special consideration during your stay.
4. Depending on usage conditions, we may request improvements to how the Facility is used. If no improvement is observed, we may have no choice but to ask you to leave. Please note that no refunds will be provided in such cases.
5. Details such as check-in instructions will be sent to you separately after your Reservation.
6. This Accommodation is licensed under the Ryokan Business Act. Amenities such as toothbrushes, cotton pads, shampoo, and more are provided, so you can stay with peace of mind even for just one night.
7. All items and equipment inside the Facility are available free of charge; however, some fittings and interior pieces use traditional or antique materials and may be fragile. Please handle them with care.
8. If anything is damaged or malfunctions, please inform us without delay. Minor damage will be repaired at our expense; however, if we determine that the damage is significant and repairs will be costly, you may be required to cover the actual costs regardless of intent or negligence.
9. The Accommodation Tax must be paid in cash on the day of check-in.
