Stay at a Registered Tangible Cultural Property—Kaze no Sawa, a one-group-per-day culinary accommodation.
“Kaze no Sawa,” nestled in the satoyama countryside of Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, is a one-party-per-day Accommodation renovated from a 200-year-old Registered Tangible Cultural Property. As a “chef’s Accommodation” run by an owner-chef, we welcome one group at a time as a couple, offering an immersive stay that becomes an experience in itself. Here, everything—from sourcing ingredients and preparation to setting the space—is done by our own hands. For this reason, we intentionally limit our opening days and value the time to engage sincerely with each stay. Centered around the thatched-roof main house, a tea room, meditation room, and art exhibition spaces are scattered across the grounds. Spanning over 5,000 tsubo (approx. 16,500 m²), the property is surrounded by seasonal nature throughout the year. In this tranquil setting, you can enjoy a quiet escape from everyday life. Dinner features a course menu made with seasonal ingredients personally selected by the chef through visits to farms and fishing ports and direct connections with producers. Each dish expresses the blessings of Tohoku—of that day and that place. Enjoy an exceptional stay where nature, culture, and cuisine resonate together—within a space that preserves the character of this cultural heritage building while offering modern comfort.
Thank you for a wonderful stay. The Accommodation, with its charming thatched roof, was truly atmospheric. Even though we stayed for only one night, it felt like a special experience. In the quiet surroundings where you can really feel nature, we enjoyed carefully prepared dinner in the evening, and in the morning the colorful breakfast was as pleasing to the eye as it was satisfying in taste. The place is run by a husband and wife, and in particular the wife’s explanations were clear and easy to understand; she also expanded on our questions in conversation, which made our time there very comfortable. This is an Accommodation I would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and healing getaway. It’s something you can only fully appreciate by actually going—there are many things I feel are better left undisclosed so you can enjoy discovering them yourself. The bath was deep enough to stretch out comfortably, and the hinoki scent was wonderful. It would be perfect if there were an optional plan that lets you enjoy sake in the bath. You may even be able to witness moments like a cicada molting up close, and if it’s handheld fireworks they can be done near the garden area—so I think it could also be great for families with children as a summer memory. It’s an Accommodation that made me want to return someday—perhaps during autumn foliage season at Mt. Kurikoma.
ザビエルk 7/21/2026We stayed here for the first time on a family trip to celebrate our child’s 1st birthday. What stood out most was the warm and genuinely kind personality of the owner couple. We were truly impressed by their thoughtful attention to detail! This is one of the few traditional Japanese house Hotels I can confidently recommend.Food: Everything was incredibly delicious—vegetables, meat, and desserts—using local ingredients as well. They also prepared handmade meals for our child, who happily ate them!Facility: We were able to rent an entire precious traditional Japanese house exclusively! The peaceful atmosphere and nostalgic scent of an old-style home made it deeply relaxing—even for families with small children. Highly recommended! We had a wonderful stay and were very satisfied. We’d love to visit again!

Introduction of the Accommodation

An artful dining space where serenity and beauty resonate
The dining area, set within a 200-year-old thatched-roof traditional farmhouse, is a special space where the warmth of heritage architecture and the delicate harmony of contemporary art come together. Step away from everyday life and, in a serene atmosphere where even the passage of time feels beautiful, your senses will naturally sharpen. Through each meal, we offer an experience of “savoring the space.”

A Forest Tea House “Azumaya” for Restoring Mind and Body
Nestled quietly in the satoyama landscape of Kazenosawa, the Azumaya is a versatile space for more than tea ceremony and calligraphy practice—also ideal for yoga, meditation, and other activities that restore both mind and body. Surrounded by nature in every season, it offers an experience of reconnecting with yourself through deep, mindful breathing.

Relaxed moments of conversation and drinks around the irori hearth
A moment spent gathered around the irori hearth, sharing conversation with a glass of local sake or seasonal fruit liqueur in hand. With the crackle of burning firewood, quiet conversations that rarely arise in everyday life come naturally. In a private space free from interruption, enjoy an evening that lets your mind unwind.

A traditional architectural retreat infused with contemporary art
A contemporary art installation that suddenly appears inside a 200-year-old thatched-roof traditional farmhouse. A collection of works made from natural materials such as earth, netting, and ceramics harmonizes with the Japanese-style space while evoking an extraordinary sense of wonder. Your stay itself becomes a single immersive art experience.

A tranquil space for meditation and prayer, where you can surrender to silence
The meditation room, set within a traditional “Itakura” wooden storehouse, is a special space embraced by the quiet presence of red clay walls, inviting deep reflection and prayer. Enjoy morning meditation, light yoga, or reading—moments to restore your mind. Step away from everyday noise and spend luxurious time reconnecting with nature and yourself.
