Tenrai is a Ryokan offering an exclusive one-group-per-day stay, located in this nature-rich castle town of Bitchu. The Ryokan is a renovated townhouse over 180 years old, originally built in the late Edo period, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in its rich history through all five senses. Starting with the spacious earthen-floored entrance typical of traditional Japanese homes, the building features an open ceiling with exposed wooden beams, creating a sense of openness. The Japanese-style rooms reflect the traditional Ryokan aesthetic, and from the engawa (veranda), guests can enjoy views of the karesansui (dry landscape) garden. In this special space within the timeless castle town, you can indulge in a luxurious stay, experiencing the history and traditional culture of Bitchu as if you were living there. - Important Notes - This Ryokan operates with a completely non-face-to-face, contactless check-in system, and no staff are stationed on-site.

Tenrai has been renovated with the concept of Kobori Enshu's "Kirei Sabi." Enshu, a feudal lord of the early Edo period who reconstructed Bitchu Matsuyama Castle, established the uniquely Japanese aesthetic concept of "Kirei Sabi." This concept adds brightness and richness to the traditional wabi-sabi worldview, creating an aesthetic that is universally perceived as beautiful. At Tenrai, we have reinterpreted "Enshu's Taste" in a modern way, incorporating numerous windows throughout the facility to create a bright and open interior while emphasizing a space that reflects the traditional beauty of Japan. Additionally, the facility features a dry landscape garden in the Enshu style, allowing guests to enjoy the worldview of "Kirei Sabi," which has been passed down for over 400 years.
