At Shirafuji-an, "Unagi no Nedoko" refers to a building design characterized by a narrow frontage and deep interior. This is one of the features of traditional Kyoto townhouses. Traditional features of Kyoto townhouses include the earthen corridor extending from the entrance of Shirafuji-an, the open ceiling space called "Hibukuro," and the sturdy lattice windows known as "Mushikomado" in the second-floor bedroom of Shirafuji-an.
