Introduction of the Accommodation

Exterior

Warm and cozy comfort enveloped in natural materials

The exterior of Bất Lại Am is crafted from authentic natural materials such as naturally dried solid wood, Tây Bản tatami mats, earthen walls, lime plaster walls, and charcoal, completely eliminating chemical substances like adhesives. This ensures safety for those sensitive to chemicals. (This is the only property in Japan that uses American Clay natural earthen walls throughout the entire building.) During your stay, you will experience the reassuring touch, soft texture, and warm comfort.

Example of a guest room

Hinoki wooden bath with a view of Furai-an's proud tea garden.

The pride of Furaian, our luxurious bathroom, is designed to provide an experience beyond what you can enjoy at home, crafted with meticulous attention to each material. The oval-shaped bathtub is a hinoki bath made from Mt. Fuji's hinoki cypress. As it is constructed in a barrel style, no adhesives are used at all. The walls are made of authentic sawara cypress, offering its unique fragrance to help you relax. For shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, we provide Pax products, which are free from synthetic surfactants, ensuring a natural and gentle feel. Enjoy an exceptional bathing experience that soothes all your senses while gazing at the tea garden illuminated at night.

Example of a guest room
An artistic space featuring the works of master artisans.

The moment you step inside the Property, you will be greeted by a transom intricately carved with an image of Mount Fuji. This masterpiece, created by Ryohei Ido, a leading artist in scenic transom carvings, is a work of art worth admiring in detail. The stunning washbasin in the restroom, adorned with paintings of a dragon and an ox, is a masterpiece specially crafted for our Property by the fourth-generation ceramic artist, Yoshiyuki Morioka. The teacups available at the Property are also creations by Yoshiyuki Morioka. The "ojami" cushions in the tea room, shaped like traditional beanbags, are exquisite items manufactured in Kyoto. These cushions are designed to naturally encourage good posture and reduce strain on the lower back, which is why we do not provide chairs with backrests at our Property.

Example of a guest room
Elegant decorations inspired by the Gion district.

Furian is located near the Gion Hanamachi, with interior furnishings inspired by the district. The six-tatami tea room with Oribe flooring features elegant screens traditional to Gion, and the second floor displays luxurious obi sashes once worn by maiko. The sliding door paper on the second floor is adorned with traditional Gion patterns, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

Kennin-ji Temple
Pass through Kennin Temple to Gion Hanami-koji.

Furai-an is located just a 1-minute walk from the south gate of Kennin-ji Temple. Passing through the temple grounds and onto Hanami Koji leads to the path to Gion. A morning walk to Kennin-ji Temple is recommended. If time permits, participating in the morning meditation experience at Ryosoku-in of Kennin-ji Temple is also recommended.
