Izu Kawazu Onsenkyo Kaiyutei

Thank you for welcoming us with such warm hospitality!We booked a Room with an open-air bath, and it felt more open than we expected, which made us a bit nervous, so we used it early in the morning and at night when it seemed like no one would be around.The meals were also delicious, and we were very satisfied!We ate so much we could barely move.

It had been quite a long time since my last visit, but I’m glad I came back.(Compared with my first stay, the management and the services had changed.)My Room was a third-floor corner Room with a private open-air bath. It might be the best Room.The Room felt more spacious than I expected from the photos, and the full ocean view was wonderful.It would have been even better with clearer weather.The round private open-air bath was compact but very nice.Dinner was a course featuring simmered golden eye snapper as the main dish.The seasonal vegetables and Hakone foothills pork steamed in a bamboo tube were new to me and truly memorable.You pour a small amount of water into the bottom of the bamboo tube; white steam rises from below, then you put on the lid and wait for a while.You enjoy the steamed vegetables and pork with sesame sauce.The three-kind platter of fresh fish—such as spiny lobster and tuna—was also excellent. The wasabi, of course, was wild-harvested.To finish, there was a “wasabi rice bowl”: you save some of the wasabi used for sashimi and eat it over Izu-grown Koshihikari rice topped with bonito flakes and wasabi. This was also my first time trying it—essentially bonito-flake rice topped with fresh wasabi.There were other dishes as well, such as “Shiosai” bouillabaisse and green-cheese chawanmushi (savory egg custard). It was an enjoyable Japanese course meal with tasteful Western-inspired touches.The welcome draft beer and the orange wine I ordered by the glass were delicious too.Right beside the Accommodation, the Kawazu River flowed quietly, and beyond it Mt. Amagi stood calmly in lush green.Next time I visit, I’d like to explore more around the area.One more thing: on my way to Kawazu Station after checking out of the Accommodation, there was a stylish log-cabin-style café along the Kawazu River. It felt wonderful there too—a very relaxing space—and both their coffee and homemade cake were excellent. I’m glad I stopped by to end my trip on such a nice note.
