Proud of its natural hot spring source with no added water or heating. A Property offering relaxation amidst serene nature.
Located within the grounds of the Jigen-in Temple, this Property is run by the temple's head priest's wife as the hostess and their daughter as the young hostess. Rather than operating as a traditional "shukubo" (temple lodging), this Property has a long history of welcoming guests from both Japan and abroad as a youth hostel, offering a familial and casual atmosphere that is its charm. Centered around the bright and energetic young hostess, the staff includes a variety of individuals such as surfers who deeply love the Izu sea and trainees from top international companies working for a few weeks. Conversations with these diverse staff members are sure to become an unforgettable part of your journey. At times, you may even see the staff's children appearing in the dining area, being affectionately greeted by regular guests with a "You've grown so much!"—a scene that evokes the warmth of staying at a relative's home. Except for some Rooms equipped with beds, futons are self-service. Meals are also partially self-service, so it may not suit those seeking fully catered services. However, the Property takes great care in hospitality, such as sourcing only pesticide-free vegetables and selecting Izu's specialty "kinmedai" (golden eye snapper) weighing over 1.2kg with rich flavor, ensuring guests' satisfaction. When you want to experience the joy of connecting with people or savor the simple blessings of nature, we invite you to visit this Property.
I had a wonderfully relaxing stay at a comfortable pace. It was quiet and spotless throughout, and the Onsen was incredibly open and wonderful. Every meal was deeply delicious. The staff were also very pleasant and welcoming. I feel as if both my body and mind have been refreshed. I can hardly believe how reasonably priced it is. Thank you very much. I will definitely return.
いふぃー 6/27/2026Perhaps because I visited on a weekday, the hot stone sauna and open-air bath felt completely private. The open-air area even had a sofa bed like you’d find at the beach, and I truly relaxed. Dinner was a simplified set, but more than enough. The rice was delicious, the extra plum wine I ordered was also excellent, and even after the meal the pre-made iced coffee on the second floor was great. These days, everything like this must be costly, but they never cut corners. The proprietress and staff were kind and welcoming—this was the most relaxing Accommodation I’ve stayed at this year. I’d love to drop by again on a whim.

Introduction of the Accommodation

A property reminiscent of a grandmother's house in the countryside.
Zen no Yu aims to be a Property like a grandmother's house in the countryside for guests. The caring staff welcomes you like distant relatives. Feel free to talk to them; they will share local sightseeing spots.
Zazen meditation experience
On Sunday mornings, we conduct seated meditation at the adjacent temple, Jigan-in. We warmly invite our staying guests to participate in this meditation experience. The session lasts approximately 45 minutes, the time it takes for one incense stick to burn completely. After the focused meditation, relaxing and warming both body and mind in the Onsen of Zen no Yu is the highlight of this experience.
Yoga class
On Wednesday mornings, we host a yoga class led by Mr. Jinbo, who has training experience in India and regularly dedicates time to yoga there. Our yoga classes are highly popular, with many local repeat participants using them for back pain relief or body maintenance. If you think, "I want to try yoga, but it seems difficult...", don't worry. The instructor will guide you kindly and thoroughly.

The Onsen at Zen no Yu is a natural hot spring sourced directly from our premises. It is neither diluted nor heated, preserving its natural state. It is also a drinkable hot spring. From the open-air bath, you can enjoy views of the green mountains with no adjacent buildings.

Approximately 70% of the plans reserved at our property are for the golden eye snapper cuisine plan. The golden eye snapper procured by Zen no Yu weighs over 1.2 kilograms and is rich in fat. It is tenderly cooked while repeatedly being basted with a savory sauce made from the snapper's broth. Please remember the collaboration of the "large, fatty golden eye snapper" and the "savory sauce made from the snapper's broth."
