[Opening November 5, 2024] "Hotel Utano Kyoto Villa" is located just a short drive from the famous sightseeing spots of Kyoto, including Arashiyama, the World Heritage Sites of Kinkaku-ji, Ryoan-ji, and Ninna-ji, as well as the scenic Kinukake-no-Michi walking path. With only 10 guest rooms, each featuring a private Onsen bath, our accommodations include options such as Narutaki Main Building showcasing traditional Shoin-zukuri and Sukiya-style architecture; an Art Deco-inspired Western-style building; and rooms that blend warm Japanese aesthetics with contemporary Western design. Meals are served in a dining area overlooking a Japanese garden. Enjoy dishes crafted with fresh seafood from Awaji Island alongside carefully selected ingredients from Kyoto and surrounding regions. Our cuisine focuses on Japanese flavors while embracing diverse culinary styles beyond specific categories. The property also features approximately 1,000 tsubo (about 3,300 square meters) of serene space with a recreated garden originally designed by renowned landscape architect Mirei Shigemori. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and indulge in this tranquil retreat surrounded by nature's beauty.

  • It was the best family trip.

    We stayed here for a family trip with my parents.At check-in, the staff explained the building while we enjoyed the beautiful garden view, which helped us understand the Accommodation even better. The welcome sweets and tea we were served were also delicious.As I am pregnant, I mentioned that I was avoiding caffeine, raw foods, and alcohol. They kindly switched the coffee prepared in our Room to decaf, provided non-caffeinated sword bean tea, and changed the tea served with meals to black soybean tea. I was truly impressed by their warm hospitality.Dinner was excellent as well. They even accommodated me with a separate menu, and I really appreciated their thoughtful attention to detail. Every dish was delicious, the portions were just right, and it was a wonderful meal overall.The private Onsen in our Room could be enjoyed 24 hours a day whenever we liked, which was fantastic.My parents seemed very satisfied too. This was our last family trip before our baby arrives, and we are truly glad we chose to stay here.Once things settle down, we would love to return and stay in a different Room as well.

  • It was a girls’ trip.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality the other day. We truly appreciate your thoughtful care and warm welcome. (I wasn’t sure whether it would be appropriate to include details, so I will omit them.) The breakfast—rice cooked in a traditional pot, shabu-shabu, and small obanzai dishes—was all delicious. Located slightly away from the bustle of central Kyoto, it was quiet and relaxing, and the Room was wonderful as well. The staff were welcoming, and we were very grateful for their attentive service. Thank you again.

This is Utano, a serene retreat cherished as a mountainous area since the Heian period, where Emperor Uda spent his later years in peace.

"Hotel Utano Kyoto Bessho" is a renovated historical building originally constructed in the early Showa period. Featuring the traditional Shoin-zukuri and Sukiya architectural styles in Narutaki Main Building, as well as Art Deco-inspired Western-style architecture, it carries on the legacy of Meiji-era Japanese-Western fusion design and has been reborn as a new iconic hotel in Kyoto. Enjoy the serene retreat with approximately 1,000 tsubo (3,300 square meters) of spacious grounds and a Japanese garden recreated under the supervision of renowned landscape architect Mirei Shigemori.
