The Setouchi Triennale is held once every three years across 12 islands in the Seto Inland Sea and around three ports on Honshu and Shikoku. *The next festival will be in 2028. The Setouchi Triennale is Japan’s largest contemporary art event, bringing together works from around the world. It is also highly popular internationally, attracting art fans to Naoshima from across the globe during the festival period.* Even outside the festival dates, Naoshima offers many permanent artworks and museums to enjoy year-round. Naoshima Ryokan Roka is ideally located just a 5-minute walk from Honmura, the center of Naoshima. It is the island’s first full-fledged Ryokan, featuring all-suite guest rooms with private open-air baths. On Naoshima—visited by art lovers from around the world, especially for the Setouchi Triennale—guests can enjoy cuisine centered on Setouchi seafood, heartfelt Ryokan hospitality, and artworks displayed throughout the property. This modern Japanese Ryokan serves as a hub for Japanese culture and emerging artists.

It’s well known among lovers of Japanese cuisine that fish from the Setouchi region is exceptionally delicious. Our dishes, created with the wish to share that flavor with more people, will delight not only Japanese guests but also visitors from abroad. Please savor our original course menu to your heart’s content, featuring Setouchi seafood as the centerpiece and blending kaiseki and sushi.

A hub for emerging contemporary artists

Original commissioned works—primarily by emerging contemporary Japanese artists—are displayed throughout the property, and newly created pieces by a Featured Artist (rotating every six months) are exhibited and offered for sale for all 11 guest rooms. Shigeo Goto (Professor, Kyoto University of the Arts) has been appointed as Art Producer, with the aim of becoming a key hub for showcasing contemporary Japanese art.

Since ancient times, people have gathered around fire, gazing into the flames and imagining unseen worlds of myth. Our staff is committed to maintaining a safe environment so that all our guests can enjoy their stay with peace of mind. - During check-in, we implement temperature checks and identity verification while taking infection prevention measures, such as avoiding direct face-to-face interactions. - We conduct temperature and health checks, and in cases of fever or cold symptoms, we will follow the instructions of the public health center, including on weekends, and take appropriate actions. - For the use of shared Facilities such as restaurants, we implement measures such as limiting the number of people and setting time restrictions to prevent overcrowding. - We regularly disinfect and ventilate shared spaces, including the lobby and guest rooms. - Before traveling, please check your health, including taking your temperature. If you have a fever or cold symptoms, please refrain from traveling.
