  • I originally made a Reservation at “Nene no Michi Bettei,” but due to a change in Room allocation, I ended up staying at Hotel VMG Kyoto Kamogawa. From check-in to check-out, I was deeply impressed by the staff’s impeccable attention to detail and thoughtful hospitality.Sleeping in the bedroom while gazing up at the coffered ceiling felt like an “exceptional escape from everyday life.”At the paid lounge, alcohol and other drinks are available free-flow, with snacks as well—it truly feels like a private lounge.Because the property preserves the character of a historic building, soundproofing is not perfect; however, it more than makes up for it with an elegant, nostalgic atmosphere. The Japanese-style room next to the bedroom overlooks a small courtyard garden and offers a wonderfully atmospheric view that made time feel as if it passed more slowly. That said, perhaps because the air conditioning does not reach this room easily, I found the heat noticeable.Although it would involve additional cost, lending spot coolers or simple heaters to guests upon request during limited seasons (summer/winter) could help make better use of this room and may also become a new experiential highlight—especially for international travelers.I’m truly grateful to all of the staff for giving me such an extraordinary stay. This is a Hotel I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking an “indescribably exceptional escape from everyday life.”

  • I was able to stay at Nene 103 during cherry blossom season. From the Room window, I could see the cherry blossoms in Kodaiji Park, and at night I fully enjoyed viewing the illuminated Yasaka Pagoda and the night cherry blossoms, as well as admiring the blossoms from the Room. Both dinner at Funatsuru and breakfast at Heian Shrine were excellent. The Room is located along Nene-no-Michi, so during cherry blossom season many tourists pass by and it can be noisy during the day, but it was quiet at night and I was able to sleep well. The location is also great, making early-morning sightseeing at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Yasaka Pagoda very convenient.I did notice that the washroom and toilet are connected, which felt a bit cramped.I visit Kyoto several times every year, and this stay made for my best Kyoto trip yet.Thank you very much.

Every corner of Higashiyama is picture-perfect. It is one of Kyoto’s top sightseeing areas, with traditional streetscapes that were the first in Japan to be designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. “Nene-to” is located on Nene-no-Michi, where historic townhouses still remain, and has been restored from a former culinary Ryokan. While preserving its dignified exterior, step inside to discover a luxurious space with a modern design.

Higashiyama Area

“Kodaiji Kiwami,” limited to 12 seats, is a premium chef’s counter adorned with Nishijin-ori textiles designed by Kyoto kimono designer Jotaro Saito. Based on classic French techniques with refined Japanese touches throughout, enjoy a full-course menu created especially for the day. Savor a luxurious time as you watch masterful craftsmanship unfold and enjoy conversation with the chef.

Kamogawa Area

A restaurant renovated from a former Ryokan-style dining inn originally built in 1925, carrying nearly a century of history. Inside its five-story wooden tower—now impossible to recreate—traditional Japanese hospitality details such as coffered ceilings coexist with modern Art Deco interiors. Enjoy a luxurious moment in a space that preserves the atmosphere of this culinary Ryokan once beloved by Konosuke Matsushita and many other cultural and business figures.
