Directly connected to New Chitose Airport, a relaxing space woven with Japan's delicate traditional beauty.

In February 2020, Portom International Hokkaido opened in the New Chitose Airport International Terminal. With the concept “Encounters and Color for Your Journey,” the hotel offers an elegant space enriched with Japanese art. Beautiful Japanese traditions and heartfelt hospitality invite you to relax in comfort and enjoy a truly special experience. Savor every moment of your stay to the fullest.

  • Portom International Hokkaido truly lives up to the phrase “like an art museum.” From the moment you step inside, you’re captivated by its gorgeous, sophisticated interiors. In the evening, we enjoyed Akkeshi whisky and expertly crafted cocktails at the wonderful bar, spending a blissful time. Breakfast was also outstanding—everything tasted first-class—allowing us to forget everyday life and fully savor an exceptional escape. It’s a place I’d love to visit again on a special occasion.

  • The direct connection to New Chitose Airport is simply outstanding. Being able to get around without worrying about the weather was a real plus. The Room also had Japanese touches throughout, which I think international guests in particular would appreciate. For dinner, we enjoyed French cuisine both nights, and every dish was completely satisfying. It was a wonderful Hotel that made me want to stay again without hesitation if I have the chance to visit Hokkaido.

Highlights include ukiyo-e prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige; celebrated Edo masterpieces by Jakuchu, Hochu, and Hakuin; and fine crafts created from the Edo to Meiji periods. You will also find installations that draw on enduring traditional techniques—plasterwork, dyeing, and maki-e lacquer artistry—filling every corner with beauty in many forms. Immerse yourself in Japan’s culture and aesthetics, nurtured through history and tradition, to your heart’s content.

When it comes to Jakuchu, his celebrated series “Colorful Realm of Living Beings” (30 scrolls)—with its vivid colors and breathtakingly meticulous detail, depicting every living creature from animals and plants to fish and shellfish—is world-renowned. His ink paintings of chickens and other subjects he observed daily and knew inside out feel as lively as an improvisation, brimming with the joy of painting. In the guest salon reserved exclusively for staying guests, the works are on display for you to view at your leisure.

A rare series of portraits showcasing cultural exchange in Ezo welcomes you. In the lobby, you will find portraits of Ainu leaders. The original work, “Ishu Retsuzo,” was painted by Kakizaki Hakyo, a chief retainer of the Matsumae Domain renowned for his artistic talent, and is now housed at the Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology in Besançon, France.

When the elevator doors open on the guestroom floors from the 5th to the 8th, a monumental dyeing installation comes into view at once. Beautiful silk fabrics like delicate feathers, draped in color and light, are gifts from Japan’s natural world. These are works by “Senshi Yoshioka,” which you can encounter throughout the Hotel.
