Yoshikawa small luxury inn Kyoto & Tempura
Kyoto Prefecture/Kyoto, Nakagyo WardEnjoy a Kyoto-style kaiseki meal centered on tempura at this sukiya-style Accommodation with a Taisho Romantic atmosphere, featuring just seven guest rooms.
Yoshikawa was established as a culinary Ryokan after World War II, located near the Kyoto Imperial Palace in the heart of Rakuchu. The garden, known as "Taikyoen," is said to have been designed by Enshu Kobori and retains some features from the Edo period. The Sukiya-style building, once a residence of a wealthy merchant, offers an atmosphere of tranquility and charm that feels far removed from the bustling city. We hope you will enjoy your stay at our culinary Ryokan, where you can relax and feel at home.
Its kaleidoscopic beauty resonates deeply in the heart. Exquisitely prepared with sincere care, the cuisine is truly delicious. A beautiful garden that reflects the seasons—so captivating you could gaze at it forever. Elegant summer décor that lets you fully experience Kyoto’s traditional culture. Hanging scrolls, ikebana, and a beautifully arranged Room down to every detail. The head chef, attendants, the young proprietress, and the proprietress herself offer warm, attentive hospitality with genuine grace.Thinking that all of this beauty is an expression of love for each guest fills me with freshness and gratitude. At Kikkawa, you can feel the refined spirit of Kyoto—an appreciation for making everyday life beautiful and joyful. It began as an Accommodation I hoped to stay at at least once in my life; before I knew it, this was my 11th visit. A superb culinary Ryokan I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who truly loves Kyoto.
播磨屋! 8/9/2026I visited Mr. Yoshikawa and enjoyed tempura. I had been there in winter and spring before, so the koi in the garden were resting, but this time they were swimming energetically and looked beautiful. The tempura was excellent—not only rare ingredients to have as tempura such as tilefish (matsukasa-age) and grouper, but also familiar vegetables like okra and eggplant, which were perfectly crisp on the outside yet meltingly tender inside. I heard that changes are coming to Tomikoji as well, but I hope both the Accommodation and the cuisine will be preserved for generations to come.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Meals
Savor a carefully curated seasonal kaiseki meal by our head chef. Our tempura, fried in health-conscious and eco-friendly cottonseed oil, offers a delicate flavor that enhances the natural taste of the ingredients, delighting our guests. Additionally, enjoy freshly fried tempura at our small tempura counter, converted from part of a traditional tea room.

The accommodation offers a total of 7 rooms. Originally a residence built in the early Taisho period, this sukiya-style building features 3 rooms facing the main garden and 4 rooms facing the courtyard garden, each uniquely designed. Step inside from the entrance, and you will be immersed in the charm of traditional Japan.

The "Main Garden," which occupies one-third of the property, was designed by Kobori Enshu, a prominent garden designer from the late Edo period. You can enjoy watching koi fish from the veranda of the hall or take a stroll after your meal.
