EN Takeda Castle Town Hotel
Hyogo Prefecture/Asago WadayamaAccommodation with 13 rooms, renovated from an old sake brewery and traditional houses, located at the foot of Takeda Castle Ruins.
Known as the "Castle in the Sky" or "Japan's Machu Picchu," Takeda Castle Ruins appear to float amidst a sea of clouds. At the foot of this historic site lies a charming castle town, featuring serene waterways, traditional townhouses from the Meiji and Taisho eras with white plaster walls and decorative eaves, and picturesque scenery that changes with each season. At the heart of this historic townscape stands a former sake brewery with over 400 years of history, now transformed into an elegant accommodation offering 13 unique rooms. Each room is distinct in character, housed within structures such as the main building from the Meiji era, storehouses, or detached cottages, providing guests with a tranquil and soothing retreat. The culinary experience—a highlight of any journey—features local specialties like Tajima beef and Kasumi crab paired with fresh local vegetables in exquisite French cuisine. Indulge in a world of gourmet delights enhanced by various local ingredients and fine sake. To enrich your stay further, we also provide guidance on nearby attractions. With its convenient location for visiting Takeda Castle Ruins as well as Amanohashidate sightseeing spots, our accommodation offers an ideal escape from daily life where you can enjoy moments of peace and fulfillment.
We arrived in the evening and chose the plan with two meals included. The only convenience store within walking distance is a Lawson about 10–15 minutes away. Since you have to cross a national highway at night, it feels far. We were glad we added meals. The carefully prepared dishes were unique both to look at and to taste, and we really enjoyed them. I definitely recommend adding meals. We went early in the morning to Ritsuunkyo, came back for breakfast, rested in our Room, and then hiked up Takeda Castle; being able to take breaks along the way was great. This is a recommended Accommodation. Since it is an old traditional house Hotel, I would not recommend it to those who cannot enjoy an older building or who expect perfect Facilities.
しゅがーけいん 7/11/2026The spacious, clean, and character-filled two-story historic building made for a charming and atmospheric Accommodation. We were glad we could relax and take it easy all day.It was wonderful that the hinoki bath could automatically fill with hot water. The heaters in the washroom and toilet were a huge help—we were able to dry our son’s wet shoes in a short time. The desserts at both dinner and breakfast were especially delicious. After breakfast, it was fun to take a walk along nearby Takeda Teramachi Street. Away from the city’s bustle, it felt as if time had stopped, and we felt very calm. Thanks to a female staff member at the nearby tourist information center, we learned about the “Wadayama Takeda Castle Festival” and enjoyed spending the whole day there. We would love to visit again someday.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Sea of Clouds
Takeda Castle, often referred to as the "Castle in the Sky" or "Japan's Machu Picchu," appears like a mystical vision floating amidst a sea of clouds. The castle town at its base retains the charm of the Edo period with its historic streetscape. Takeda Castle Town Hotel EN is an exclusive decentralized hotel with only 13 rooms, created by revitalizing valuable historical buildings in this area through the craftsmanship of local artisans. Each building, such as a sake brewery with 400 years of history or Meiji-era townhouses, holds its own unique story and exudes an atmosphere rich in heritage. Every room offers an extraordinary space where you can experience the richness preserved from those times. For dining, guests can indulge in exquisite gourmet experiences that reflect the natural bounty of Tajima’s land and sea—ingredients rarely found elsewhere—combined with our chef's creativity and refined techniques to create unforgettable culinary delights. At VMG HOTELS, we offer more than just a stay at a Hotel or Ryokan; we provide an exceptional experience where you immerse yourself in the essence of staying within a historic town itself. While ensuring premium quality as expected from any hotel, we go beyond to deliver truly special moments that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

Stay at a sake brewery with nearly 400 years of history, rooted in the legacy of a samurai retainer from the Sengoku period.
Takeda Castle Town Hotel EN was originally a sake brewery with a history of approximately 400 years. The Kimura family's roots trace back to Ieo Ukyonosuke Naotoshi, the second son of a vassal of Takeda Shingen. After the fall of the Takeda clan, he changed his surname to Kimura and is said to have settled in present-day Kakogawa. The Kimura family began brewing sake in Takeda around 1625 (Kan'ei 2). After two fires, the current building was reconstructed around 1902 (Meiji 35). The current head of the Kimura family is the 16th generation.

"EN" - Connecting People and Relationships
Reborn after more than 100 years, the former Kimura Sake Brewery celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2023. Restored with respect for the building's historical significance, it has been preserved as authentically as possible. It features an accommodation wing where visitors to Takeda Castle Ruins can experience traditional living, a French restaurant focusing on local produce, and a café serving as a community space. Named "EN" with the hope of fostering connections between people and nature, this is a place where bonds are created.
