A barrier-free accommodation located in the World Heritage site of Mount Koya.

Since its establishment by Kobo Daishi Kukai during the Heian period, Mount Koya has transcended all sects and continued to nurture its history as the general bodhi site of Japan. Located in front of the Seven Halls of the Great Temple Complex, adjacent to the head temple Kongobuji to the east, and backed by the mountain of Prince Kakuhou's Mausoleum, the special-status temple "Mount Koya Special-Status Temple Soujiji" is an ancient temple blessed with excellent Facilities and a grand garden. The guest rooms, set amidst the beautiful garden, are equipped with air conditioning and heating, offering a refreshing and serene atmosphere. Warmth in the severe cold, natural coolness in the summer—no matter the season, you are sure to enjoy a comfortable stay.

  • The hospitality felt more like a luxury Ryokan than a temple lodging. Our Room was upgraded to a special suite, and we were able to relax in the spacious “Hojo” Room overlooking an expansive garden. The shojin-ryori cuisine was beautifully presented and delicious throughout. After dinner, we took a short walk (about 3 minutes) to Danjo Garan. With bonfires lit and the area illuminated, we caught a glimpse of Kobo Daishi’s mandala world through sights such as Konpon Daito, Saito Pagoda, and Kondo Hall. The next morning, we joined the morning service from 6:00 a.m., which felt truly solemn and moving. The Dharma talk by Archbishop Miyata explained Buddhism from a global perspective with humor, making it easy to understand. I strongly feel that Koyasan is best experienced with an overnight stay. • We had a soothing, peaceful stay, comforted by the wonderful garden and Room, as well as the iris bath.We also truly enjoyed the hot pot and mizunasu eggplant—they were delicious.Above all, being able to join the morning service and listen to the head priest’s sermon made us feel that visiting Mount Koya—and this temple Accommodation—at an important turning point in our lives was truly worthwhile. The “Toryu Fuji” wisteria, said to have been named by Prince Komatsu-no-miya whom my great-grandmother served, was in full bloom, making it an especially memorable moment.Thank you very much. We would love to visit again when we have the opportunity.
