We were able to take an unexpected holiday, so we went on an Onsen trip for the first time in a while. A room with a private open-air bath was available, so we made a Reservation—and we were extremely satisfied. The view from the open-air bath and the quality of the water were both excellent. We also enjoyed dinner in a private dining room, where we could relax and savor the delicious cuisine at our leisure. The illuminated main building at night was also stunning. A few years ago, we stayed in a mountain villa room with a private open-air bath and were very satisfied, but this time Kasotei exceeded our expectations even more. We would love to visit again.

Accommodation famous for its red bridge

I had long wanted to visit Sekizenkan, and by chance I was able to make a Reservation about six months ago—finally making this long-awaited stay come true. This trip also doubled as a birthday celebration for my wife. We stayed in the Sanso, which is located separately from the Sanso and the main building, and since the property is very spacious, I felt it was a real highlight that you can enjoy different atmospheres in each area. After check-in, the first place we headed was that red bridge I’d seen so many times in photos. Seeing it in person—the contrast between the historic buildings and the red bridge—was truly moving and even evoked the feel of a certain animated world. There are several Onsen on site, but “Genroku-no-Yu,” with its strong sense of history, left a particularly lasting impression. Soaking in an Onsen inside such an atmospheric building felt like a special experience unique to Sekizenkan—quite different from an ordinary Onsen Ryokan. We were also very satisfied with the meals. Each dish was carefully prepared, and you could really tell how much attention went into every plate. Since it was my wife’s birthday, they also arranged a birthday plate for us, which became a wonderful memory. At Kashotei’s lounge you can enjoy tea and other drinks; personally, I felt that if there were a wider selection of beverages and some light snacks, it would be an even more inviting space where guests would want to linger longer. Also, Kashotei’s large public bath has tatami flooring inside, which personally concerned me slightly. That said—even including those small points—we were extremely satisfied with our long-awaited stay at Sekizenkan. For anyone who wants to enjoy historic architecture, Onsen baths, and Sekizenkan’s distinctive atmosphere, this is an Accommodation well worth visiting at least once. My wife and I are already talking about coming back again in winter.

- First, the parking attendant listened to my concerns and responded flexibly, which made check-in very pleasant. - The guided in-house history tour was fascinating and very informative. - As expected of Shima Onsen, the silky-smooth hot spring baths with abundant free-flowing water were wonderful—especially the Genroku Bath, where I could simply soak and relax while reflecting on those who came before us. - The meals were meticulously prepared, and I was fully satisfied with both the quality and quantity. Truly professional craftsmanship—everything was delicious. - I was also comforted by Ms. S’s warm smile and dedicated service. Ms. S, please take care of yourself and keep up the great work—I’m cheering for you! - Just one point: a boiler/air-conditioning or other mechanical noise continued throughout the night. Since it is a historic building, I understand it may be unavoidable; however, if Facility improvements are made in the future, it would be an Accommodation I would definitely love to visit again. - In any case, I feel truly refreshed and grateful to have made such wonderful memories!
