Koshi no Yado Takashimaya is an Accommodation designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property, with its main building making use of a shoya (village headman) residence from the Edo period. In this historic Japanese setting, enjoy a relaxing and soothing stay. Takashimaya’s highlight is its open-air bath with 100% free-flowing hot spring water, featuring the rare “Kuroyu” unique to Iwamuro Onsen. Kuroyu is not a typical moor hot spring; it combines sulfur, salt content, and high mineral concentration—an Onsen that is rare even across The whole country. This black water, created by the bonding of iron and sulfur, is a distinctive feature found only at Iwamuro Onsen. A must-try for true hot-spring lovers.

    You can really feel the dignity of a long-established Ryokan.It had the distinguished atmosphere of an Accommodation that hosts the Kisei title match.After arrival, my companion was delighted with the welcome beer (or soft drink). We used the complimentary beer voucher during our stay after bathing and enjoyed a delicious post-bath beer.Dinner was served in our Room, so we could relax and take our time.I had breakfast in the dining area, though it seems in-room breakfast is also available.I say that because a staff member mistakenly came to deliver breakfast to our Room (an error).Both dinner and breakfast were enjoyable, making great use of local ingredients.Breakfast in particular was simple but delicious.At checkout, the staff apologized for the breakfast mix-up, and the proprietress also offered her apologies. That kind of thoughtfulness felt like true Japanese Ryokan hospitality.

  • This is an Accommodation where I’d like to enjoy a Multiple Night Stay.

    The food was simply outstanding.We were able to relax and fully enjoy the meal served in our Room.We are truly grateful to the staff member who served us.As it is a historic building, some areas feel a bit old-fashioned, but that is part of its charm, and we think it is a wonderful Accommodation overall.It made us want to come back for a longer Multiple Night Stay.

Notice from the Accommodation

  • [Notice of Reopening After Renovation] — Guest Room “Tachibana” Now Complete

    Thank you very much for your continued patronage of Koshi no Yado Takashimaya.

    In May 2025, we launched a crowdfunding campaign to create a Room where guests using wheelchairs can stay comfortably. We received many warm messages of support and encouragement, and our entire staff was truly moved. Once again, we realized how many people are cheering for Takashimaya, and we feel deeply grateful.

    After approximately two months of crowdfunding and about six months of construction, the long-awaited guest Room is now complete.

    Originally, we planned to provide a dining table and chairs designed with wheelchair height in mind; however, due to rising crude oil prices and global conditions, delivery has been significantly delayed. For this reason, we will begin offering the Room with our existing table installed for the time being.

    We have also repaired the back entrance to make it easier to move around by wheelchair. Guests using wheelchairs may enter through a dedicated entrance.

    At our Accommodation, dinner is usually served in your Room and breakfast is served at the dining venue; however, for this Room only, we also offer an exclusive Plan that includes both dinner and breakfast served in your Room.

    *The exclusive Plan applies only to Plans whose names begin with “Dinner & Breakfast both served in-room,” so please check before making your Reservation.

    We sincerely hope that the renewed “Tachibana” Room will soothe both body and mind for many guests and become a warm memory.
