Shuzenji, where Shuzenji Onsen Yukaido Kikuya is located, is a historic Onsen town steeped in legends related to Kobo Daishi. The current Kikuya was once referred to as an annex. It is said that there was also a three-story main building at the time. Even the renowned author Natsume Soseki stayed in the main building. Back then, Kikuya owned approximately 40 to 45 cho (hectares) of forest land, and there were generations of mountain keepers. Additionally, there were always about 20 craftsmen, including gardeners, plasterers, and carpenters. At that time, many landscaping projects were undertaken, such as creating rest areas for guests who stayed for extended periods, which required such a workforce. During the era of the main building, there was a grand banquet hall called Kikuya Sanso, boasting an astonishing number of tatami mats.
We stayed right up to the last minute from check-in to check-out. Since the Shuzenji Onsen area itself doesn’t have many sightseeing spots, we focused on fully enjoying the Accommodation instead. There were plenty of staff members around the property, and it felt like an easy place to ask for help. We were also happy with the many complimentary services. The Room felt relatively new, and it was great that a full set of Sekkisei amenities was provided.
\n_n/ 6/8/2026The Room, the cuisine, the views, and all of the staff were wonderful—making our 1-night, 2-day stay extremely satisfying. We used to visit often more than ten years ago and were very pleased even then, but everything has been further refined. We were impressed by the renewed Room, the even more delicious meals, and the seamless operations from check-in to check-out. The thoughtful hospitality from the staff at both dinner and breakfast was also outstanding and made us feel truly comfortable. We had such a great time that we got carried away and caused trouble—we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Next time, we’re saying we’d like to stay at least two nights. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us; we truly appreciate it.

Hachiman-no Onsen Village, Mori no Yu, Kira no Sato
This is a hot spring property that recreates the traditional Japanese landscape. Within the premises, there are two high-alkaline natural hot springs. The large communal bath, "Mori no Yu," features eight baths and three private baths. The indoor bath is richly adorned with wood up to the ceiling, while the open-air bath allows you to experience the beauty of nature and the changing seasons.
