Step away from the everyday and into a time that soothes the soul.
The scenic beauty of Arashiyama, once celebrated by Heian aristocrats and poets, has continued to captivate people for over a thousand years in Kyoto, the ancient capital. Our ryokan is located right beside the picturesque Ōi River, offering an exceptional natural setting. While situated in the bustling heart of a popular tourist area, our facility provides a tranquil atmosphere where time flows gently. Relax in your room and enjoy the ever-changing seasonal beauty of Arashiyama. On November 15th, 2025, Ryotei Rangetsu will celebrate its 20th anniversary since opening. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our guests who have supported us over the years. As we look forward to serving you for another 30 or even 40 years as a beloved accommodation choice, we will continue striving for excellence. We sincerely appreciate your continued support and patronage.
This trip was to celebrate my mother’s 85th birthday. The Accommodation was very comfortable, and all the staff were kind and wonderfully attentive, making our stay truly enjoyable. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious; they were a feast for the eyes as well, and the dashi was so soothing—it reminded me how great Japan is. They also kindly adjusted the portion sizes for us, and even prepared a bowl of sekihan (red rice) soup for her birthday, which made my mother happy throughout our stay. This may be minor, but what delighted her most was being able to walk barefoot because the hallways were tatami rather than having to wear slippers (at her age she seems afraid of walking in slippers). She also appreciated that the tabi socks worn with the yukata had non-slip grips, that the bath temperature was just right, and that there was a stool at the sink in our Room—she was very satisfied with these thoughtful details. It is also conveniently located in Arashiyama with plenty to see nearby, making it a truly wonderful Accommodation. I’m very happy that my mother enjoyed it so much—it became a memorable trip for me as well. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.
Bemore 6/19/2026It was a wonderful stay that let us fully enjoy the best of Arashiyama’s location. Listening to the sound of the river while taking in the view of the flowing water and mountains, soaking in the open-air bath in our Room, and then cooling off on the veranda afterward made us forget all about Arashiyama’s crowds, noise, and the busyness of everyday life. A morning walk to Togetsukyo Bridge and through the bamboo grove also felt like a special privilege of staying in Arashiyama. I never imagined we could have an experience like this here.Above all, the cuisine was outstanding. Each dish was beautifully presented and carefully prepared, leaving a lasting impression one by one. The portions were just right yet deeply satisfying, and we woke up hungry for breakfast and enjoyed it thoroughly. We also appreciated the staff’s thoughtful hospitality. The calm, attentive service from those who served our meals truly conveyed the high standard of a “fine Ryokan.”
