A historic classic Hotel nestled in the beautiful nature of Unzen.

In the 10th year of the Showa era, the year following Unzen's designation as Japan's first national park, the Unzen Resort Hotel was established for foreign vacationers.

  • Both the building and the staff made this a truly wonderful Accommodation.Every year, I look forward to staying at a classic Hotel for my birthday, and this time I chose this Hotel for my stay. After arriving at Nagasaki Airport by plane, I took a local bus to the Hotel. Transportation was running as usual, but the weather wasn’t great, so I ended up arriving early.I stopped by hoping you could store my luggage until check-in, and a staff member warmly welcomed me at the entrance. They kindly lent me towels out of concern for my wet bags, and I was able to wait in the library until check-in. They also accommodated an early check-in, which allowed me to relax in my Room and recover from the trip. For dinner, I chose a Western full-course meal. In a calm atmosphere with attentive service, I thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal. The dessert cart was especially fun because there were so many options to choose from. The bread was served warm—soft and delicious—and I ate it quickly; they kindly offered more, but after finishing dessert I felt completely full, so in hindsight it was probably best not to overindulge even though it was so good.In the basement there is an Onsen with both an indoor bath and an outdoor bath (not large), and I was very happy to be able to enjoy an Onsen while staying at a classic Hotel.Although I traveled alone, everything—from check-in to check-out, including during meals—was extremely comfortable, and it helped me feel refreshed and ready to do my best for another year.I would love to visit again. Thank you very much for such a wonderful experience.

  • The calm atmosphere made for a very comfortable stay, and everything—from the interior design and furnishings to the fresh flowers on display—was tasteful. All of the staff were kind, and it truly felt like they were providing service from the heart. For example, when we asked for a photo at the entrance, they kindly guided us to recommended spots such as the doorway and even out by the street trees, taking many photos for us.The Room was clean and had a lovely ambiance; features like the clawfoot bathtub, balcony, and solid door knocker really gave it that classic Hotel feel. The amenities were also stylish, which was a nice touch. The Onsen is quite strongly acidic, but its Western-style atmosphere suited this classic Hotel perfectly, and I was happy there was also an open-air bath. I also appreciated the attentive details after bathing—such as providing glasses instead of paper cups at the water dispenser. The private family bath is on the smaller side, but it has chairs and a relaxing atmosphere that we enjoyed.Dining was excellent as well: in a classical main dining room setting, we enjoyed a full-course meal featuring plenty of local ingredients, with thoughtful plating and tableware that made it even more enjoyable. Above all, the dessert wagon service was outstanding—I ate far too much. For breakfast we chose Western-style dishes and added French toast; it was more than filling enough and of course delicious. We were extremely satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. This was my eighth classic Hotel stay so far, but I’m sure this one ranks in my top three. The serene atmosphere, heartfelt service, Facilities including the Onsen baths, and meals using local ingredients—all of it delivered an exceptionally high level of satisfaction. It’s quite far from Kanto, but I would definitely like to return again.

The unique three-story architectural style inspired by Swiss chalets has become a model for Unzen's urban development. The dignified entrance is flanked by deep green foliage on both sides. Upon stepping inside, a grand staircase with an open ceiling greets you. You can sense the breath of a bygone era through the imposing beams used throughout the front lobby, lounge, and other areas of the building, as well as the polished texture of the handrails and columns.
