    ナミクスノキ

The rice was stale, which was the only disappointing part.

I have stayed at Zuien many times. I have always been satisfied with the Onsen, the hospitality, and the meals. However, this time the rice served at the end of dinner tasted old and had an odor as if it had picked up a smell from the rice cooker. After one bite, I couldn’t eat any more. The next morning, breakfast offered a choice of Japanese or Western. I came looking forward to a Japanese breakfast, but since I couldn’t eat rice like that, I chose Western instead. Everything other than the rice was very satisfying, which made the rice especially disappointing. At most accommodations, delicious freshly cooked rice is served. Even if it isn’t freshly cooked, serving clumped rice with an unpleasant smell like that ruined everything for me. If there is leftover rice and it would be wasteful to throw it away, there are ways to use it—such as making grilled rice balls. It is truly disappointing to serve old rice as-is. I couldn’t eat it.

    Felt unsatisfied.

After the renovation, it was enjoyable to see the evening alcohol service at the lounge resume. However, attention to detail seems to have declined compared to before, such as not asking about meal preferences during check-in or lack of consideration for restaurant odors. The appetizers and sashimi for dinner were also disappointing and did not meet expectations for Zui-en.

    This was my third vi...

This was my third visit, but it did not meet the level of satisfaction I experienced during the previous two stays. I was disappointed that the heating did not work well and there was no hot water in the bathroom. More than that, however, I felt that the quality of the meals had declined. The meals are supposed to be of the same rank and content each time, but this time they lacked that "wow" factor that makes you want to take a photo when they are served. I understand that rising ingredient costs may lead to a decline in quality at restaurants offering meals at similar prices. However, people who choose to stay at Nakanobo Zuien are likely not looking for budget accommodations. Instead of lowering meal quality, raising accommodation fees might better preserve the Ryokan's overall standard. It is more important to make guests feel like they want to return even if prices increase. At least that's how I feel; others may think differently. But I'll definitely come back again because for me, Arima means staying at Zuien. Next summer, we also plan our third visit with my grandchildren to Arima Grand Hotel!
