  • We stayed for two nights to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Both the garden and the Room had a wonderful atmosphere and a real sense of history, and everything was impeccably clean, including the Facility. It was truly outstanding.I can only imagine how much effort it takes to preserve such beauty in a building with so much history. The food was also excellent—both breakfast and dinner were delicious. I had been a little worried because some Reviews mentioned that the flavors were bland or not worth the price, but both the taste and portion sizes were perfect. Those who prefer very strong seasoning might feel differently, but for others I think it will be very satisfying. The staff were also exceptional, and our attendant took great care of us until the end.Although we hadn’t specifically mentioned that it was his birthday, they picked up on it from our conversation and even prepared a surprise gift, which truly moved us.Overall, it was a wonderful trip and we are very satisfied. We would love to visit again if we have the chance. Thank you very much.

2026 “Kobo Daishi Dedication Fireworks Festival” — Friday, August 21

Monday, August 21, 2026: “Kobo Daishi Dedication Fireworks Festival”
*In case of rain: held in light rain; postponed to the following day in severe weather

    Location: Shuzenji Onsen town
    Launch time: 20:15–20:45 (scheduled)

Giant blossoms of light blooming across the night sky above the Onsen town.
Known locally and fondly as “O-Kobo-san,” this fireworks festival is dedicated to soothing the spirit of Kobo Daishi.

Shuzenji Onsen traces its origins back about 1,200 years to a legend in which Kobo Daishi visited the area and saw a boy washing his sick father with water from the Katsura River. Saying, “The river water must be cold,” he struck a rock in the river with a Buddhist ritual implement called a tokko, causing hot spring water to gush forth.

The fireworks illuminate the sky over the Onsen town and thunder through the surrounding mountains. The finale features an approximately 70-meter Niagara display set over the Katsura River—a beautiful cascade of light that draws spectators into a mystical world.

  • A perfect spot to enjoy stunning autumn foliage: the SORA Japanese Garden — 0 minutes on foot.

    -Shuzenji Nature Park “Momiji Grove”

    -SORA “Japanese Garden Autumn Leaves”-

    Location: SORA Japanese Garden
Best time to visit: Late November to mid-December
