A highland resort harmonized with nature, spreading across the eastern foothills of Mt. Yatsugatake.

A paradise at an altitude of 1,500 meters. Yatsugatake Kogen Uminokuchi Shizengou stretches across the eastern foothills of Yatsugatake. Surrounded by trees such as konashi and shirakanba, this is a highland Resort Hotel where you can immerse yourself in abundant nature. From your window, enjoy the lush green forest right before your eyes, feel the refreshing highland breeze, and spend luxurious moments listening to the chirping of birds.

  • This is a Hotel I had wanted to visit since raising my children (30 years ago). I enjoyed a harpsichord concert, observed the starry sky, and experienced something truly out of the ordinary. The outdoor concert hall was wonderful—because it was a small group, I could listen in a quiet, peaceful setting. During a break in the rainy season, I was able to take photos of the few stars that appeared through gaps in the clouds. The instructor’s explanations were excellent, and the staff member who carefully taught me how to use my phone camera was very kind. Both dinner and breakfast were enjoyed in a calm, quiet atmosphere thanks to everyone’s good manners. The breakfast omelet, tomato-braised beef tendon, yogurt, and other dishes made great use of local highland ingredients and were delicious. It felt like incredible value for money for such a wide range of experiences. It was such a lovely Hotel that it made me want to make my next Reservation right away. I hope this price will still be available for stays from July onward as well. Thank you very much to all the staff for your hospitality.

  • Perhaps because it was the rainy season, we were able to stay at a very reasonable price. The Room was spacious and relaxing. The meals were delicious as well. The flowers arranged at the front desk and in the restaurant were truly beautiful. However, it was a shame that we couldn’t do any stargazing.

Yatsugatake Kogen Music Hall
Yatsugatake Kogen Music Hall

A beautiful hexagonal structure blending seamlessly with the highland mountains, radiating the warmth of wood. The Yatsugatake Kogen Music Hall, inspired by Richter's advice to create a building "that can stand on the world stage," is a masterpiece of architecture harmonizing with nature and its surroundings. It was awarded the "1989 Mainichi Art Award" and the "1989 Tokyo Creation Grand Prize for Environmental Design." Designed with chamber music in mind, its acoustics were perfected through theoretical experiments and human auditory testing, achieving an ideal reverberation time of 1.6 seconds for a small hall. The wooden structure delivers soft, natural sounds that are pleasing to the ear, capturing every nuance of musical beauty. Moments before a performance as anticipation builds or after a concert when you bask in lingering emotions—time spent in the foyer adjacent to the hall enriches connections between music and people as well as among individuals. Beyond large glass windows lies untouched nature. The contrast between exhilarating music and serene natural beauty leaves an unforgettable impression that cannot be experienced in urban concert halls.
