Welcome to Ryokan Tanigawa. Our ryokan is located in a tranquil Onsen area at the southern base of Mount Tanigawa. True to our catchphrase, "So close you can almost touch Mount Tanigawa," guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain from their rooms, showcasing its seasonal beauty—lingering snow and cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery and cool breezes in summer, fiery autumn foliage, and a serene winter wonderland. Nestled within the Joshinetsu Kogen National Park, our modern architecture blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings of Tanigawa Onsen's peaceful environment, earning admiration from many visitors.
In the latter half of a three-day weekend, our schedule opened up, so we quickly found this place and made a Reservation. We asked to Change the Reservation from the Room we had booked to a new Japanese-modern bedroom with beds—and it was absolutely the right choice. We had a very satisfying stay.We woke up at 4:00 a.m. and watched the World Cup final on the projector’s large screen.It became my favorite Room I’ve ever stayed in.The Onsen was too hot for us as a couple.Both dinner and breakfast were delicious.The staff were also excellent.They even walked us to our car on departure, and wiped down our windshield that had gotten dirty from the rain at night—truly outstanding hospitality.This is a Ryokan we would love to visit again.
ひでミッチー 7/21/2026From check-in to check-out, the hospitality was outstanding throughout. I was amazed by the wide range of complimentary services, including sake, coffee, juice, and miso soup. The meals were delicious and very filling. I was thrilled with the complimentary maitake mushroom tempura. Dining service was excellent as well—you could choose your fish, and the order of dishes was thoughtfully planned. Breakfast was a buffet, and every item was so tasty that I ended up eating far too much. The Room was spacious, and the open-air bath in the Room was very comfortable—I felt completely relaxed until check-out. The pouch I received is stylish, so I will treasure it.Thank you for an amazing stay.I would love to visit again.

Our ryokan is particularly known among literature enthusiasts as the place where renowned author Osamu Dazai engaged in his writing activities. Our management philosophy is to be "a second home for our guests." This means providing a level of service akin to family members who warmly accommodate even slightly unreasonable requests with a smile—what we call "service without saying NO." With comforting smiles and hospitality that welcomes you like family, we look forward to your visit.
An Onsen that feels like being embraced by your mother as a child.
Tanigawa Onsen is located at the foot of Mount Tanigawa. This Onsen, which has been flowing continuously since the Edo period, is a mildly alkaline simple hot spring that feels gentle on the skin. Soaking in it for a while may evoke a sense of comfort akin to being held by your mother as a child. Our facility offers seven different Onsen experiences, including large communal baths, open-air baths, private open-air baths, and our signature foot bath. Each bath has its own unique charm. With a source temperature of 43°C, slightly lower than usual, you can enjoy relaxing soaks without feeling overheated. Please take your time to experience our Onsen, highly praised by guests for "warming you up from within and revitalizing your body."
Room
All guest rooms at Ryokan Tanigawa feature a serene Japanese-style design. We offer Standard Japanese-style rooms, Japanese-modern Western-style rooms, and Special Rooms with private Onsen open-air baths.
Onsen & Bath
The open-air rock bath offers a different ambiance during the day and night, while the spacious indoor Hinoki bath features high ceilings and is entirely made of cypress wood. There are two open-air baths and two indoor baths for each gender, with a rotation system at 7:00 PM. Both are available 24 hours a day.
On the 1st floor lounge, we offer nostalgic siphon coffee and cold brew iced coffee.
Our dedicated team, including our chefs, works tirelessly every day to ensure you can fully enjoy the seasonal flavors nurtured by Tanigawa under the theme of "Health and Deliciousness."
