About a 50-minute drive from central Sapporo, Jozankei Shikanoyu is a long-established Accommodation founded in 1897 in the beautiful Onsen forest of Jozankei Onsen, located within a designated national park. Its annex, Hanamomiji, blends a distinctly Japanese atmosphere with Hokkaido’s unique sensibilities and modern hospitality. Enjoy Jozankei’s renowned hot springs in the large public bath, choose from a wide variety of rooms—from traditional Japanese-style rooms to special floors with private Onsen baths—and savor seasonal cuisine thoughtfully prepared by skilled chefs. Surrounded by the magnificent nature of Jozankei National Park, known as Sapporo’s “Onsen Forest,” your time at the Accommodation will be beautifully enriched in your own way.

Hanamomiji’s signature floor “urara,” launched in 2022. These Rooms blend refined Japanese design with modern comfort, and feature free-flowing hot spring water from the renowned Jozankei onsen “Shika-no-Yu” (water is added to adjust the temperature). By the window overlooking the valley, a long sofa over 1 meter deep invites you to relax, while a Simmons double bed soothes travel fatigue. In addition, guests staying on “urara” can enjoy an exclusive lounge offering seasonal light snacks and drinks, as well as a matcha experience at the central lacquer table—perfect for a special moment. Books and a variety of board games are also available to take back to your Room, so you can unwind wherever you like.

To help you fully enjoy the unique appeal of an Onsen Accommodation—featuring large communal baths including Shika-no-Yu, an authentic sauna, and private baths—we have intentionally not installed Onsen baths in the guest rooms. Instead, we have woven nine exclusive “Kokonoe” guest indulgences throughout the space: “Sleep, Scent, Bathe, Moisturize, Reflect, Play Music, Whisk Tea, Sip, and Delight.” During your stay, savor these indulgences to your heart’s content and enjoy a truly blissful time. On the same floor, we also offer a dedicated lounge where you can whisk matcha with authentic tea utensils, create original cocktails using Hokkaido-made liqueurs, and enjoy board games. Relax in this special space designed to complement your unhurried journey.

“Shika-no-Yu” is named after wild deer that once soaked here to heal their wounds. At our Accommodation, we blend three natural hot spring sources, including Shika-no-Yu, to offer an Onsen with a gentle, silky feel on the skin. At “Fugetsu,” the large public bath on the 12th-floor top level, you can enjoy a luxurious moment while taking in beautiful national park mountains by day and a moonlit scene drifting through rising steam by night. At “Momiji-Yu,” a large public bath featuring an open-air bath reminiscent of a Japanese garden, you can admire the changing seasons reflected in the surrounding trees. In addition, you may also use the large public bath at the adjacent Shika-no-Yu facility, renowned hot springs that well up along the mountain stream, and an authentic sauna. We also offer three private baths with distinct atmospheres—enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience unique to an Onsen Accommodation.

Hanamomiji is an Accommodation that fully embraces the local climate and character, building on the traditions of Japanese Ryokan hospitality and Onsen culture long preserved by the historic Ryokan “Shika-no-Yu,” established in 1897. Passing through the entrance waterfall, you’ll find an airy, open-atrium lobby and a beautifully designed courtyard. In the dining area, menus feature Hokkaido ingredients—often called a treasure trove of food—along with seasonal flavors prepared using a variety of techniques, capturing the true essence of staying here.
