About a 5-minute walk from Otaru Station. A Hotel surrounded by nostalgic streetscapes.

Authent Hotel Otaru offers a soothing space wrapped in a dignified, elegant design. It features a full range of appealing Facility options to enjoy your time, including Japanese and Western restaurants, as well as a bar and lounge. With heartfelt, genuine hospitality, we help create lasting memories in the romantic town of Otaru.

  • It was convenient to take the JR from New Chitose Airport to Otaru, and from the station we could walk through the covered arcade to get there. The canal was also within easy walking distance, and the former Bank of Japan Otaru Branch was nearby as well—great location. The Room was simple, and amenities such as hair ties were provided in the Room. The vanity area in the Room had a slight musty smell. The soup curry at breakfast was very delicious. We could make Eggs Benedict ourselves, which our child enjoyed. The vegetable salad was fresh, and the fruit—especially blueberries and plums—was excellent.Since it was during summer vacation, there were lines for breakfast, so it’s best to go as early as possible. The night parfait on the 11th floor had a great atmosphere and looked adorable—we really liked it—but it wasn’t clear whether certain time slots or a Reservation were required. It seems to be available only for one hour from 8:00 PM, and making a Reservation is probably recommended.

  • I stay here every time, and I was satisfied again this time. Since we arrived by ferry, the parking lot was full. We were directed to a distant parking area, but it was difficult to find.\nWe arrived feeling disappointed because the plan for the new ferry Hamanasu had changed—and then found the parking lot full as well.\nI really like this Hotel, so please do something about the parking situation. I usually come on a Venus Travel package tour, but this time I arranged everything myself as an independent trip.

A Nostalgic Stroll in Otaru

Former Bank of Japan Otaru Branch

Former Bank of Japan Otaru Branch

This Renaissance-style building, distinguished by five copper-roofed domes, stands partway up the gentle slope leading to the Otaru Canal. Designed by Kingo Tatsuno—known as the father of modern Japanese architecture and also responsible for landmark works such as Tokyo Station—it was completed in 1912. Unfortunately, the interior is not open to visitors, but its illuminated beauty glowing against the evening streetscape is truly captivating.

The Otaru Canal and brick warehouses

The Otaru Canal and brick warehouses

The 1,140-meter-long canal is a symbol of Otaru. Stroll along the cobblestone promenade while gazing at the water, and you’ll be immersed in the port town’s nostalgic charm, with rows of brick warehouses and retro gas lamps creating an exotic atmosphere. Once busy with ships coming and going, the canal now lies quietly still, carrying a sense of nostalgia on the sea breeze... Today it has become a stylish area lined with cafés and restaurants. Why not head out for an evening stroll at dusk?

Otaru Music Box Museum

Housed in a brick building built in 1912, we exhibit and sell about 10,000 music boxes of approximately 3,000 types from around the world. Step inside and you’ll be enveloped by layers of gentle melodies from the music boxes displayed in the soaring atrium hall. As you listen to their charming sounds, you may lose track of time. You’re sure to find a melody you’ll love.
