As you drive up the winding mountain road with hairpin turns, you’ll eventually spot the Hotel at the top.
With expectations rising for a great view…
Once inside, the large lobby windows more than delivered, offering a breathtaking panoramic view over Mikawa Bay.
In the Japanese-style Room, two beds had been set up—an appreciated touch for us as an older couple.
Of course, the view from the Room was spectacular as well.
The large public bath had both an indoor bath and an open-air bath at just the right temperature, and it felt wonderful.
I wanted to stay in forever, so I cooled off now and then by splashing lukewarm water or cold water on myself to avoid overheating before soaking again. (Laughs)
Dinner featured Aichi beef sukiyaki and abalone steak.
Both were so delicious I wished I could have eaten more—but after finishing everything served, I realized it was actually the perfect amount.
These days buffets are common and I often end up overeating, so having table service in a restaurant like this felt calm and healthy.
Okazaki Castle is also about an hour’s drive from the Hotel, and I was happy to be able to reflect on Tokugawa Ieyasu’s legacy there.
Within the castle grounds, Mikawa Bushi no Yakata: Ieyasu Museum is thoughtfully designed with well-planned exhibits—I’d love to visit again at a slower pace.
