We stayed here for the first time on our wedding anniversary last year and loved it so much that we visited again for this year’s anniversary. The view from the Room was truly amazing. The food felt very summery, looked beautiful, and was absolutely delicious. It was very quiet, and we were able to relax and take our time. Thank you very much. The only thing that concerned me this time—though it may just be a matter of personal preference—was the smell as soon as we entered the Room. I thought it might have been potpourri placed in the hallway, but each time we walked through the hallway it smelled strange. We would like to visit again in autumn with my mother, and we are looking forward to it.

If you’re staying in Gero for the architecture, Yunoshimakan is the place; if you’re staying for great food, I’d say this is it—Suimeien. Every dish was delicious, and the ayu sweetfish in particular was outstanding. The annex where we stayed was an adults-only area, which may be why it was so quiet at night. I was able to truly relax for the first time in a while. It also felt special to have access to a private Onsen reserved exclusively for annex guests—it was a fun and memorable experience. Both large public baths had towels available at the entrance, so there was no need to go back to the Room to get one. I could enjoy the Onsen anytime on a whim without bringing anything with me. (I especially liked the large bath on the first floor.) There is also a spot inside where you can enjoy coffee while looking outside; after breakfast, I spent a relaxing time reading there. I was amazed at how spotless everything was throughout the property—surely thanks to the excellent work of your housekeeping staff. It truly became a wonderful trip. Thank you very much. I will definitely stay again.

We stayed here hoping to relax as a family of four with our two adult children. From the warm welcome in the parking lot to the welcome drink and escort to our Room, we were treated with outstanding hospitality. Every detail—from the entrance hall and corridors to the Room interior—showed great care and exceeded what we had seen on the website in advance. The large public bath is not huge, but since the number of guests is limited, it was more than sufficient. We also enjoyed being able to soak in Onsen anytime in the bath in our Room, which was wonderful for our family. The meals reflected the chef’s dedication (he is from Shiga Prefecture), and every dish was a delight for both the eyes and the palate. We also appreciated having time to unwind as a family in the lounge with drinks, making this a trip that left all of us completely satisfied. What we recommend most about this Accommodation is that every staff member provides genuinely pleasant service. In addition to taking care of what we needed, they entertained us with friendly, witty conversation. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again and again as a couple or with family. The atmosphere of the main building was wonderful. Maintaining such a historic building must take a lot of effort, so I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well kept it was. This time we chose the newer wing where we could enjoy the Onsen in our Room, but next time I would love to stay in one of the lovely Rooms in the main building, such as Sanraku or Kumoi. Dinner and drinks were delicious, and being able to enjoy them in our Room made it feel truly luxurious. All of the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming, and we made great summer memories. We will definitely come again.

My daughter and I stayed here together. When we arrived, I dropped my daughter off at the entrance and was about to head to the parking area as instructed, but a staff member at the entrance noticed the maternity badge on her bag and immediately guided us to a nearby parking space. I was truly impressed by such thoughtful attention. We had many chances to speak with the front desk staff, housekeeping staff, and dining staff, and everyone was courteous and pleasant, allowing us to relax and enjoy our time. Thank you very much. We would love to stay again.

More than 40 years ago, when I was a child, I stayed here with my mother, my older brother, and a family who were acquaintances of my mother. I could barely remember anything other than the name, but after all these years, I’m glad I was able to stay again—this time with my own family. The portions at both dinner and breakfast were very satisfying, and I was happy to have my favorite hoba miso. I love Gero, so if I have the chance, I’d like to stay again.

This was my first stay here. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room in the Sasara building, which had been renovated and was very clean. The staff member assisting us was a foreigner, so some explanations of the meals were a little hard to understand, but it was clear they had studied well. Every dish was delicious. By chance, it was the first day of the Gero Onsen Festival, and I was moved to be able to watch the fireworks while soaking in the open-air bath at night. We were able to relax and enjoy our time.

Since the Room we selected was on the 4th floor, we got quite tired going back and forth three round trips down to the 1st floor (for walking our dog, etc.), plus meals and the bath (four round trips up to the 2nd floor) (lol). Next time, we’ll choose a Room on the 1st or 2nd floor (lol). Other than that, there were no problems. Our dog was happy, and the food was delicious too. (We are an elderly couple, aged 75 and 70.)

I stayed at Ogawaya for two nights, and dinner was excellent on both days. The second night in particular made me very happy with its full Hida beef course. Breakfast also offers a wide variety of dishes and is delicious. There are many staff members from Southeast Asia, and most of them provide warm hospitality with sincere effort and a smile. The Room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The welcome sweet, blueberry daifuku, was also delicious! It would be even better if the skincare amenities were a bit higher quality. Thank you very much.

Our family has been coming here for four generations since the early days, and this time the timing worked out, so I visited with my mother and cousin on a trip for three. With its thoughtful design for elderly guests, meals that make the most of excellent ingredients in a satisfying yet not excessive amount, and a spotless bath area kept clean with frequent cleaning, it truly is a wonderful, prestigious Accommodation. Most places have one or two little moments that make you think “Hmm?”, but from arrival to departure everything was comfortable, making for an excellent stay. Next time, around autumn, I’m hoping to visit again on my own for a change of pace—or perhaps with just my son.

A truly exceptional Hotel, offering simple elegance and abundant free-flowing Onsen water sourced from Gero’s natural spring. Attentive staff and housekeeping, along with a well-organized Room. A warm and welcoming second home you’ll want to return to again and again.

The bath was, of course, outstanding, and since the Hotel is on a hill, the view was great and I could truly relax. The all-inclusive plan was also nice because it felt relatively unhurried (at another Hotel, I once saw people rushing to grab seats the moment it started, which put me off). The food went beyond the ordinary with thoughtful touches, so I enjoyed it with excitement. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming, which was very soothing. I’d love to stay again.

This riverside Accommodation was truly wonderful. Meals weren’t the typical one-set Ryokan style; there were several choices available. The portions were just right—not too much—so I could sleep well at night, and I also felt thoughtful attention to detail throughout. I was especially grateful that, unlike many places, there was no noise from children during meals, so I could enjoy everything quietly and at a relaxed pace. Dining while enjoying the cool breeze and scenery through the riverside windows became an unforgettable time. For bathing, I used a private bath. Because I have surgical scars, I was most grateful that they prepared a private bath where I could bathe with peace of mind. The free-flowing natural spring water was beautifully pure and felt cleansing even to the soul. The Room had double-pane windows for soundproofing and insulation, showing how carefully it had been renovated. Since I’m not used to sitting on tatami floors in daily life, having a bed and table made the Room very comfortable, and I appreciated that consideration. Also, as someone with strong cleanliness preferences, I really appreciated the small but thoughtful touch of providing unopened individually wrapped pocket tissues instead of a partly used box of tissues often found in Ryokan. The meals were also pleasing for someone like me who pays attention to additives; in particular, they had a nostalgic flavor that reminded me of my grandmother’s cooking—she was especially good at German cuisine. The juice served was freshly squeezed as well, and it was clear that each dish had been prepared with great care. I was genuinely happy to find an Accommodation like this in Japan. Both the proprietress and her husband were very friendly and interacted with me at just the right distance—even though I’m shy—so my stay felt truly comfortable. If I have another chance to visit Gero Onsen, I would love to book a Multiple Night Stay—starting the morning with German beer and then enjoying lunch as well. Thank you very much for such a pleasant stay.

This time, due to the circumstances of the original accommodation (Bokakakan), we stayed at Ryokan Gero Onsen Sasara. Initially, we were a bit anxious, but we were completely satisfied with the meals, room, onsen, and staff. This accommodation is one we would like to use again when visiting Gero Onsen.

The Room staff were very friendly and attentive to every detail, and although we were traveling with my parents in their 90s, we had a comfortable stay. It was also great that the bath was available 24 hours a day.

The baths left our skin smooth just as the Reviews said. Dinner was a kaiseki meal, so we were able to enjoy it at a relaxed pace. Everything was delicious and had a rustic, home-style feel, which we really liked for its simplicity. Our child was thrilled and said the Hida beef sukiyaki was especially delicious. Some areas (the medium-sized bath) were only accessible by stairs, but it was less crowded and we could unwind peacefully. At check-in, we received a 10% off ticket for the shop and made good use of it when buying souvenirs. All of the staff were very kind, and we were happy that they handled our requests in advance properly. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

We stayed just after the Golden Week holidays. The front desk staff, restaurant team, and housekeeping staff we passed on our way out were all pleasant and handled everything smoothly. Our Room had an open-air bath; although it was listed as having no view at the time of Reservation, we were able to enjoy the mountains across the river, the lights of nearby Onsen Accommodations, and a sky full of stars. We had recently stayed at a related property in Yamashiro Onsen and expected similar meals, but the buffet selection was different here, and in particular the local Gero specialty “Kei-chan” chicken was delicious. The baths were used by quite a few guests, but they never felt crowded, and everything was well cleaned and easy to use. We were able to relax and enjoy a wonderful, unhurried stay. We would love to stay again.

I traveled solo for one night and two days from 9/6 to 9/7, and soaking in the water truly lived up to what you’d expect from Gero Onsen—I felt refreshed both physically and mentally. The meals were just the right amount, not too much or too little, and everything was delicious. Unfortunately, it rained so I couldn’t do much sightseeing, which was a bit disappointing, but I did make it to the morning market. I’d like to visit Gero Onsen again someday.

I booked a 3-night stay for the ayu fishing tournament with No Meals Included, but thank you for accommodating my request to add meals for two days. The variety of baths helped me relax and recover from fatigue. Personally, I would be happy if there were a coin laundry available. I’ll do my best so I can come again next year. I’m very satisfied.
