We stayed with our Shiba Inu. The bath is spacious and very relaxing. There are places nearby for walks, and there are also pet-friendly restaurants, so everyone was happy. The reception staff and other employees provide excellent service. We will definitely visit again soon.

You can stay in the former Soma family’s kura storehouse, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. It was an amazing experience. Since we usually live surrounded by excessive information and stimulation, being in a room with no TV or clock makes time feel like it flows more slowly. The location is also perfect as a base for sightseeing. Having the staff show us around the former Soma family’s main house was full of surprises and really enjoyable. We also visited the recommended local food spots and were very satisfied. Thank you very much.

Booked a great-value room at the last minute. There is an Onsen, free tea in the lobby, and all the staff were very helpful. They also introduced us to the stone-paved streets of Ochiai, which made our trip very fulfilling. Thank you.

We stayed as three families and booked three villas. Each villa had a lovely Room, and we had a very comfortable stay. The complimentary drinks and snacks at the management building were also a nice touch. Since it was still a bit early for ocean activities, we brought our own fishing gear and relaxed. The staff kindly arranged the setup so all three families could dine together, and we had a great time sharing BBQ, bouillabaisse, and sushi. We were worried dinner might not be enough, so we bought extra meat beforehand, but it turned out to be more than enough—everything was delicious. The clam miso soup served with the sushi was especially outstanding. Breakfast was also stylish, with bagels as the main item on the plate, and it tasted great. However, for children who don’t like bagels or for my father who has dental issues, they were too hard to eat—so it would be nice to have a choice of several options such as croissants or French toast. The yogurt was plain with no sweetness, so fruit yogurt or jam served on the side would be appreciated. The Room was comfortable overall, and both the beds and futons felt wonderful. One small inconvenience was that there wasn’t a place to hang bath towels; having one behind the sink would be helpful. There were hangers and a rack, but once we hung jackets and clothes it was full. Since swimwear is required in Rooms with an outdoor bath, I think additional hangers and space to dry wet swimsuits are necessary. I’ve noted some points here, but overall this was an excellent Accommodation and we would love to visit again. All staff members were kind and responded thoughtfully to our requests. This trip was with my parents and my son. Since one of my parents has difficulty walking, I chose this Accommodation hoping they could watch the Kamiyamada Fireworks Festival from the Room. We reserved the top-floor Room (5F Executive Floor Suite), convinced we would be able to see the fireworks. When we arrived, the front desk staff guided our car and prepared a wheelchair for my mother. Dinner was included; there was so much that we couldn’t finish it all, but everything was excellent and delicious. The baths were also wonderful, with great-quality water that everyone enjoyed—my son went in four times. As for the fireworks, they were absolutely perfect. We could see the launch site clearly, and it was truly beautiful. The only disappointment was that there were several steps inside the Room. I also thought handrails would have been helpful. Still, with such great food and a perfect fireworks view, I’m glad we stayed in this Room. Thank you to all the staff as well. I’d love to stay again.

Although breakfast is not normally provided, at check-in we received two sweet buns, a carton of milk, a boiled egg, and salt. In addition, from 7:00 a.m., you can try an onigiri service on a trial basis—said to be exceptionally delicious (they make it fresh and fill it with your choice of ingredients).

The room was neither too spacious nor too small, just the right size for two adults. The room was also clean (though I noticed a long hair on the robe, which concerned me slightly). The bath was an open-air one, and while there were houses a bit further away that made me wonder if they could see in, there were adjustable automatic shutters. When fully lowered, they completely blocked the view from outside and kept out the cold air. Despite snow remaining from the previous day, we could enjoy a warm soak without feeling chilly. The temperature of the bath was just right for relaxing. Concerns: We chose a plan with in-room dining for our meals. However, after grilling meat during dinner, its smell lingered throughout the room until bedtime. While it might have been our oversight as well, future guests opting for this plan might want to keep their bedroom doors closed during meals to avoid this issue. It would be considerate if staff could mention this when serving meals or perhaps provide additional amenities like room sprays alongside air purifiers to enhance comfort further. That said, the meat was tender and delicious; other dishes were also very tasty with portions that felt just right. With free beer dispensers, ice cream machines, drinks in the fridge available at no extra cost, and even foot baths provided—this is overall a wonderful accommodation! Next time I’d love to visit again with my mother. Thank you for your hospitality!

The last time I visited Matsurube was right after the 2008 Iwate–Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake, which triggered a massive landslide and caused the collapse of the Matsurube Ohashi Bridge. This time, it was my first return in 20 years. While traces of the past remain, it has been reborn as a small yet elegant Accommodation. It takes only about 10–20 seconds on foot from the Room to the large public bath. With just seven guest rooms in total, once day-use bathers leave in the evening, the large public bath feels almost like a private bath reserved just for you—an incredibly luxurious setup. Passing through a lovely drink bar, we head to the restaurant. It is described as “French cuisine,” but even after looking over the menu, I couldn’t quite imagine what each dish would be like. When I think of French food, classics such as foie gras, truffles, and rich butter sauces come to mind—delicious, but sometimes heavy. So what kind of French cuisine would this be? I had high expectations. But what was served far exceeded them. Each plate features two or more main ingredients—and both are ingredients that evoke a sense of place, with different flavor profiles and textures. The moment they overlap on your palate, an exquisite marriage is born. Even more interesting is that one of those two leading ingredients is always a vegetable. Vegetables are not mere supporting players here; they stand proudly as true protagonists, creating an impression reminiscent of kaiseki cuisine as well. I found myself thinking: “Japanese-French” is indeed a perfect name for it. For wine, I chose a Côtes du Rhône white made with Grenache Blanc; its dry richness and fruitiness paired beautifully with the food. I’ve had my share of French cuisine both in Japan and abroad, but I may never have been moved quite like this before. It never felt heavy; instead, subtle hidden accents throughout created deep lingering finishes. It was truly outstanding. I’m told that when the seasons change, the menu will be completely renewed as well. That means I’ll have to come back again—one more thing to look forward to. One final request: As people who want to start with “a beer for now” as soon as we arrive at an Accommodation, we’d be even happier if getting access to beer were just a little easier. Please consider it.

I’d long wanted to visit Bessho Onsen. It had great Reviews on Google Maps, and when I searched IKYU.com for “solo travel” and “Western-style room,” I chose Midoriya—Done! I was a little concerned about the cutting-edge, tech-driven operation, but that worry was unfounded: the smartphone-based process was very smooth. It also made me feel this is something I should get used to—and that it may well become a new standard. This time I booked a breakfast-only Plan for a Multiple Night Stay, and during my stay I used three private Onsen baths a total of six times. What I loved was being able to experience different types of water depending on the bath and the day—clear, slightly greenish, milky white, or with soft yunohana drifting in the water. Each bath has both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, and I thoroughly enjoyed historic Bessho Onsen with its skin-beautifying qualities, gentle feel, and subtle sulfur scent. During my stay, I saw all kinds of guests—a mom with her baby along with her own mother, a young European couple, and solo female international travelers—and it was clear everyone was enjoying their time in their own way.

Our family of four stayed at RITA Gosho-machi in the Road Linden Room. The calm character of this traditional townhouse and the refined modern design are beautifully balanced, and from the moment we stepped inside, we could forget the rush of everyday life and truly relax. It’s rare to find an Accommodation—and a townscape—that lets you enjoy such a special time. Spending quiet moments in the room with a fountain pen felt wonderfully atmospheric and more calming than I expected. Also, just a short walk away, Gosho Takara-yu was incredibly cool—a retro public bathhouse with great vibes. It was simply the best! The meal (at Western-style restaurant Kemuri) made excellent use of local ingredients and was genuinely delicious. We were deeply impressed by the warm hospitality from all staff, their careful explanations, and outstanding service in every respect—no wonder it has such high ratings. Highly recommended. We’d love to visit again in another season. Thank you very much!

I’d been looking forward to the opening of La Vista Minami Aso and stayed during the pre-opening period. The previous Hotel also offered a magnificent, expansive view of Mt. Aso, and while that scenery remains unchanged, the interiors and Facility have been completely renewed. I was able to fully enjoy Aso in comfort—from the spacious lobby and Room to the baths. A few small notes: For the welcome drink in the lobby after check-in, I had coffee, but it would be even better if beer were available earlier (not only from 6:00 p.m.) and if decaf coffee were offered. As for dining, dinner was a La Vista–style course meal and breakfast was a buffet. Both featured many ingredients from Kumamoto Prefecture, and everything was delicious. I’d be happy if the breakfast buffet had a slightly wider dessert selection. The baths were wonderful as well—great views of Aso from the large public bath, plus private baths and a sauna. The post-bath ice cream and massage chairs were also a nice touch. It was disappointing that the probiotic milk drinks (Yakult) ran out quickly during my morning bath. The late-night ramen service common to Kyoritsu Resort was delicious (if I may be indulgent, I’d love it if there were two varieties like in Kirishima). Since it was during the pre-opening period, there may have been some areas where staff were still getting used to things; however, their sincere effort really came through. Wishing you all the best toward the grand opening. I’d love to stay again.

My sister and her husband from the U.S. visited Japan, and we used this accommodation for a one-night trip with our parents. The maisonette had 3 rooms with baths, each spacious, and the first floor featured a kitchen-equipped dining area and a living room with a fireplace, providing ample space even for 7 people. The center lounge offered alcohol-free drinks from morning to evening, which was perfect for those who enjoy non-alcoholic beverages (laughs). The young staff provided excellent service, while the experienced staff offered solid support when needed. We booked quite early at a very reasonable price; although there was an additional fee for early check-in, we opted for it. Please note that lounge access is available only after check-in. One night felt too short—I’d love to stay 2 or 3 nights next time!

This is a secluded riverside Accommodation deep in the mountains, with the soothing sound of the river. Dinner was delicious. It was my first time trying basashi (horse sashimi), and it was tender and very tasty. Every dish was carefully prepared, and my spouse and I kept saying, “This is so good,” as we ate. The bath was wonderful—I went in three times. In the early morning, we visited Hagoromo Falls near the Accommodation. The waterfall twists into multiple layers like draped feather robes, and it’s truly impressive. You’ll climb uphill for about 10 minutes at first, but after that it becomes flat. I highly recommend going.

Stayed for two nights in late November. We were three women and found this accommodation to be absolutely satisfying in every aspect. The view is stunning, with the ocean right in front of you. The building itself is luxurious and meticulously designed without any compromises. Remarkably, it is equipped with the latest high-end appliances. The tableware includes Iittala, and the dining area features Carl Hansen furniture, showcasing attention to detail throughout the space. The room's fireplace was cozy, and we could even enjoy BBQ on the terrace. This time, we fully self-catered using Itoshima vegetables, which made our stay incredibly enjoyable. Of course, what truly matters is what's inside—the staff were warm and supportive from afar with friendly smiles. It was a wonderful accommodation that I would love to visit again!

The room was very comfortable, the food was delicious, and the Onsen was excellent. I had a luxurious time. I would love to stay again.

We stayed for one night with dinner and breakfast included. The Accommodation was clean, and the fireplace and the scent of wood in the Room were very relaxing. I’m giving it 4 stars because there was no bathtub, only a shower. The meals were very satisfying. As an auberge around Asahikawa, it’s top-class so far. Once all guests are seated, the dishes are served all at once, but we were able to enjoy beer and other drinks beforehand. Taisetsuzan Beer is recommended. It started raining the next morning, and the Hotel staff brought us an umbrella. It’s a Facility that makes you want to come back again.

I stayed here for a week on a business trip from Osaka. A clean, spacious Room with a great atmosphere and a delicious breakfast! The staff were friendly and welcoming while keeping just the right amount of distance. They replaced amenities such as bath towels, bath mats, and toothbrushes, but… my towel didn’t come back! (lol) If possible, I’d appreciate it if towel replacement could be included as well (lol). It was a very fulfilling business trip. Thank you very much! If I have another chance to visit the area for work, I’d definitely like to stay again!!

I previously stayed at the auberge run by Fukuchiyo Shuzo, and when I learned they had another concept Accommodation, I chose this one for my visit. Having the entire building to ourselves was great—we could relax without worrying about staff. The kaiseki dinner was also delicious. The stay included a brewery tour, and the president’s talk was fascinating. As a sake lover, it was a truly valuable experience. Thank you very much. *One small point: there is a gap in the door separating the bathroom and changing area, so water from the shower soaked the changing area. It might help to seal it with rubber or something similar.*

Although it was an east-facing Room, the view was wonderful, with a full panorama of the city center. I would definitely like to stay again.
