The views, the people, the space, and the food—everything was exceptional. I felt instantly healed rather than gradually. The sunset was beautiful, and every staff member’s hospitality was heartfelt. The cooking that brought out the best in each ingredient was outstanding, as were the delicious broths. Not only dinner but also breakfast was truly elaborate and carefully prepared. I could go on forever, but in short, it was wonderful. Thank you very much.

The parking lot is less than a 1-minute walk from the Accommodation, but cars cannot be brought right up to the entrance, so the proprietress came to our car to pick up our luggage. Dinner was the Shige-no-Ie group dining Plan; the hot pot was served with their homemade broth instead of ponzu, and it was very delicious. The soba rice porridge served at breakfast was also very tasty. However, we chose a room with an open-air bath, but perhaps due to its age, one tile had come off and there were quite a few dirty bits of sealant and debris floating in the water, which was disappointing. There were several other spots that felt loose when touched, so I think they should be repaired before more tiles come off. My husband used it and said both the Onsen and the garden were wonderful, but my daughter and I couldn’t use it because it felt unclean, which was unfortunate. All of the staff were easy to talk to and spoke to my daughter every time they saw her; everyone was very friendly and it was great.

This Hotel offers far more than a long history—its building, atmosphere, Rooms, dining, Onsen, and service are all maintained to an exceptionally high standard, making it a wonderfully relaxing place to stay. Although it was pouring rain outside and the weather was hot and humid, the indoor climate control—including in the Rooms—was kept at a very comfortable level, so we enjoyed a stress-free stay. Modern luxury Hotels are great too, but this stay helped us rediscover the unique charm of a renowned Ryokan.

We had a wonderful time in a very clean room with excellent facilities. The meal was also delicious—a meat-themed kaiseki course that felt refreshingly different from typical ryokan cuisine. The location, in the Higashiyama area, was another highlight, making it easy to explore around Kiyomizu-dera in the morning.

Our family of three stayed for two nights and three days. We truly felt refreshed. Thank you very much. The rainbow we saw on the morning tour, the hot spring with the perfect temperature, water quality, and bath to enjoy, and the wines paired with our meals—these three days were amazing. During the pairing, the sommelier taught us a lot about wine, which was very educational. We thoroughly enjoyed the Takahata wines, and in fact a Japanese Merlot came up in my Wine Expert Level 2 exam the following week—thanks to this experience, I was able to answer correctly. It was a wonderful place we would love to visit again.

A beautifully designed modern Japanese-style building and an impressive sense of space. Japanese aesthetics can be felt throughout, and it was a wonderfully comfortable stay—spacious yet deeply relaxing. The welcome service at CAFE SKY LIBRARY was excellent, and I was truly impressed by the staff’s understated hospitality. The large public bath and sauna were also very comfortable, allowing me to unwind and recover from travel fatigue at a leisurely pace. Getting to the airport was smoother than expected thanks to the moving walkways. I even had time to enjoy shopping at the airport early the next morning. When traveling in Hokkaido, this is a hotel I would definitely want to stay at as my final stop.

Thank you very much for taking such great care of us during our stay. The welcome drink, private bath, Onsen, meals, and service—everything was excellent. Moving around the property in samue was also very convenient. Lately we have often stayed at foreign-owned Hotels, so we were able to truly relax thanks to your warm and thoughtful hospitality. This was our second stay. Once again, we were able to fully relax and enjoy the hot springs at a leisurely pace in a room with an open-air bath. As always, both dinner and breakfast were delicious (we especially loved the five small varieties of dried fish at breakfast—our family prefers that over being served one large piece). The staff were warm and attentive, and we had a very comfortable stay. Because we like this inn so much, this time I brought my elderly father and my sister who lives in the city. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back, and I was happy that both of them enjoyed it as well. During our meal, a new staff member with a beginner’s badge served us with great effort; their fresh yet polite manner left a wonderful impression. We look forward to seeing their continued growth. Thank you again for such a lovely time. We would love to visit again with someone special.

It’s rare to enjoy this level of cuisine, hot springs, and service at this price, and the garden is also wonderful. The facilities are impeccably clean. It stands out even among Japan’s luxury ryokan.

I was very happy to be able to reserve the teppanyaki I’d been wanting to try for so long. However, I ended up completely full… a luxurious problem of not being able to enjoy every last bite. That’s part of the charm of a high-end hot spring stay. Breakfast was also plentiful, and I was stuffed!! Thanks to how much we ate here, we couldn’t even eat lunch (lol). We also received cheesecake and ice cream as an Ikkyu Diamond benefit, but we couldn’t finish those either (lol). Eat and soak in the hot springs, soak in the hot springs and eat… The weather was great, and it was a truly satisfying trip. I’d love to visit again for my birthday next year.

This is our third year in a row staying here, and thanks to you we were able to relax again this time. The delicious sweets and tea served upon arrival, the beautiful greenery of the trees visible throughout the property, the clean and comfortable Room, the spacious open-air bath in the Room, the large public baths and private baths—each with its own unique atmosphere—and the meals that were a delight to look at and, of course, tasted wonderful—everything was outstanding. We are also grateful to all of your staff for their consistently pleasant hospitality. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Surrender to a serene space and listen to the sounds of the gorge as time passes quietly. The in-room Onsen, kept at a gentle temperature, invites you to soak slowly as body and mind unwind. This timeworn wooden building lives on, its age transformed into beauty. Every corner of the Accommodation is carefully maintained, and its presence carries unmistakable elegance. And then—clear dashi broth, the richness of local fish, and the fragrance of matsutake mushrooms. Each ingredient’s character is brought out with care, with thoughtful attention to layered flavors, lingering finishes, and the flow of each kaiseki course. An Accommodation where you can come close to the essence of beauty.

I stayed here as a birthday gift for my sister. We were amazed the moment we entered the Room—not only did you prepare a Room with a view of the five-story pagoda, but you also gifted us sparkling wine to celebrate. My sister was absolutely thrilled. In the lounge, we enjoyed a wide variety of drinks and alcohol, along with visually stunning sweets and carefully crafted dishes. At night, we dined at the rooftop bar while taking in Kyoto’s night views. For breakfast, I chose a conger eel hot pot—something rare for a Hotel breakfast—and truly savored Kyoto’s summer flavors. We were also able to visit Kiyomizu-dera early in the morning when it was quiet and uncrowded, which made us very happy. It seems it became a wonderful memory for my sister as well. I decided to write a Review for the first time in almost a year. Everything was flawless, and it was an extremely comfortable stay. The handrails for the open-air bath in the Room were thoughtfully placed with careful attention to movement flow, so even with my mobility issues I was able to bathe safely without feeling anxious. In addition, the handrails were made of wood rather than cold metal, and I truly appreciated the consideration shown throughout for guests. Thank you very much for such a blissful time.

I’d known for some time that you serve wood-fired cuisine, and I was thrilled to finally try it for the first time! It was even more delicious than I imagined.

It was a very cozy Hotel. The delicious breakfast, the staff’s warm smiles, and the clean Room—everything offered service and quality beyond the price. Because of the rain, we spent more time at the Hotel, but it was very comfortable. When I visit Kyoto again, I would definitely like to stay here.

I chose this place after hearing that the Horyu-ji storytelling tour was fascinating, and it was even more enjoyable than I imagined. If I hadn’t known anything, I might have just walked around for a few dozen minutes and been done, but the guide’s talk—full of knowledge and humor—made the two-hour tour fly by. The room was comfortable, and all the staff were courteous, so I had a very pleasant stay. It also made me realize how nice it is to take your time exploring a single temple in depth.

I stayed at Fujitaya, a historic ryokan in Yugawara. What stood out first was the beautifully preserved historic building, which is registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. The atmosphere of a traditional Japanese inn can be felt throughout, and despite its age, it is meticulously maintained. It didn’t feel simply “old”—it felt like a place that has been carefully protected with respect for its history, creating a truly charming setting. The highlight of this stay was the food. Dinner was served in the room as kaiseki cuisine, and every dish was delicious—I could really sense the high quality. I’m a slow eater, but the attendant kindly adjusted to my pace until the very end. They were considerate about when to bring each course, and in particular, our attendant chatted with us warmly between dishes, which made the meal even more enjoyable. It reminded me that staying at a ryokan isn’t only about eating well—it’s also about these personal interactions. I truly appreciated being able to enjoy dinner slowly along with such pleasant conversation. That said, because it is in-room kaiseki dining, staff will come in and out frequently to serve dishes and clear them away. I personally appreciated the attentive service, but for guests who prioritize privacy or quiet time in their room, this may be something to keep in mind. The hot spring baths were also excellent—especially the quality of the water. Soaking slowly in such good onsen within a historic building felt like a luxury unique to an established ryokan. It is not an inexpensive place to stay, but considering the delicious kaiseki cuisine, high-quality onsen water, and above all the thoughtful hospitality, it was more than satisfying. A wonderful ryokan that carefully preserves its historic architecture while never compromising on food or service—an experience that reminded me of what makes long-established Japanese inns so special.

I love food and have stayed at many inns known for their cuisine, but the meals here far exceeded my expectations. Every dish was carefully prepared with excellent ingredients and great attention to detail, and the four of us—my parents and my spouse and I—enjoyed them with genuine admiration. The room was spotless down to every corner, the furnishings were beautiful, and the open-air bath was spacious and wonderfully relaxing. The woman who assisted us in our room was also outstanding. We could feel her thoughtful attention in everything—from the timing of each course to countless small details—which made our trip truly special. This is an inn I would love to visit again, and one I can confidently recommend.

I booked this ryokan for my in-laws’ trip, as I had previously given it to my mother as a gift and she absolutely loved it. They said everything was outstanding—the beautiful interior, the meals, and the baths. In particular, my parents-in-law live relatively nearby, but they were amazed to discover such a wonderful ryokan so close to home. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Shimane.
