Hotel Matsushima Taikanso

We stayed for two nights in the “Ocean-side / Two Types of Japanese-Western Room.” It felt like the first time in a while that I’d stayed at a truly 100/100 Hotel.[Location] We explored the town thoroughly and even visited a recommended café with a view overlooking the town from the mountains, but the Matsushima view from our room at this Hotel was more beautiful than from any sightseeing spot![Dining] For dinner, we chose the kaiseki-style course at the restaurant—and it was absolutely the right choice!! Every dish was exquisitely seasoned; I felt it was on par with what you’d get at a top-class traditional restaurant. Breakfast also offered a well-balanced selection of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, and each item was deliciously prepared. If everything is this consistently good, I couldn’t help thinking that the executive chef must be exceptional.[Staff] Everyone’s service was wonderful. In particular, Mr./Ms. S, who took care of us at dinner on the first night, not only explained each dish but also gave us sightseeing tips. The next day we followed those recommendations and were able to visit all of the main attractions very smoothly. Mr./Ms. S, thank you very much.The weather wasn’t great that day and the sky over Matsushima looked gloomy (I’ve attached a photo taken from inside during a brief sunny spell on day two), but because we were so satisfied with this Hotel, it still turned into a truly lovely trip. Thank you to everyone at the Hotel.
