Petit Hotel Fromage with Cats

This was my second stay, following my visit in July.Perhaps because of that, the owner seemed more relaxed than last time, and I felt we were able to connect a little more.In my previous Review, I wrote things like how it didn’t feel like the cats were the type you could constantly pet, and that one of them seemed unhappy when we took photos. I got the impression the owner may have been a bit concerned about those comments.However, what I really meant was that this Accommodation is worth visiting not for the cats, but for the food—so if it came across as a negative Review, I truly apologize.This time, Candy looked very pleased when I petted her around her neck and chin, and Mew repeatedly showed off catching food in her mouth. I felt we became friendlier than last time. Cats are naturally moody—and just like people, there are times when they’re not in the mood.Since taste is subjective, it might be clearer for first-time guests if you highlight “cute cats” rather than focusing too much on the cuisine. Personally though, I think of this place as: amazing food first, plus the bonus of meeting adorable cats—so honestly, I would come even if there were no cats.This time I added breakfast as well. The homemade dressing was delicious; the miso soup had a rich dashi flavor; and overall—including dinner—you can really feel how much care goes into every dish. Dinner included some items from last time as well as some changes, so even repeat guests can enjoy it.I travel almost every month throughout The whole country and overseas (40 countries), so I can’t visit very often—but whenever I’m heading to the Izu area again, I’d love to return. Please keep running this Accommodation for as long as your energy and motivation allow.

We stayed at another Accommodation for one night to get our “cat fix,” then chose this place for the second night after seeing reviews saying the food is delicious and you can meet adorable cats. The exterior is an extremely charming building.We were able to use the “Now’s the time to visit Ito!” campaign, so we enjoyed a great deal.We chose a Room with an ocean view, but unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, so we’d love to come back and try again.The bath is private and requires a Reservation after check-in. In addition to an indoor bath, there is a semi-open-air bath with a small garden; it has a roof and walls so you can’t see the outside scenery. It’s genuine Onsen water, and since it was mosquito season, they even had an adorable cat-shaped mosquito coil burning.Because we had an early departure the next morning, we chose a Plan with dinner only—but it was so surprisingly delicious that it felt like dining at a starred restaurant, and we regretted not adding breakfast.The sashimi was fresh, and each dish was carefully handmade—many unlike anything we’d had before. Everything was excellent: spring rolls, small side dishes, simmered kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), white rice, and more. The hamburger steak served toward the end wasn’t greasy or heavy, and the portion size was just right. Dessert also offered variety: fruit, cake, and ice cream. The cookies in our Room—and even the cookies we received as souvenirs—were delicious as well. This is an Accommodation worth visiting just for the food alone. We’ve stayed at many Hotels and Ryokan around Japan, but my wife and I still talk about how amazed we were by how good the meals were here.After dinner there was time to interact with the cats. It’s not really hands-on petting time, but the owner kindly let us hold one of them and take photos (the cat looked slightly unimpressed!).The owner and his wife were incredibly kind, and their hospitality truly came through. At checkout it was raining quite heavily; they lent us an umbrella for walking to our car—and even came out again to collect it after we got in. We would love to return.
