Ever since my first visit before summer, I’ve been completely hooked and have returned several times. This time, I invited my family. We took a bus from a different stop than usual, so we arrived a little later than planned, but we were still able to follow almost the same schedule as always and were very satisfied. The room is compact, but it was just right for two of us (my mother and me). We spent most of our time at the hot springs and hardly came back to the room except to sleep. Since there was a smoker in our group, we booked two rooms. It was convenient not having to go to the designated smoking area, and those of us who don’t smoke could stay comfortably without worrying about any smell—my family appreciated that. As others have mentioned, the property is large and has an older layout, so you do end up walking quite a bit. But as long as you’re able to walk, it’s not an issue—if anything, walking more just means you can enjoy even more food. I personally love this kind of layout because it feels like an adventure. As always, everything we ate was delicious. My family especially loved the purple sweet potato tart. The evening hula dance show was spectacular; I’m always captivated by the dancers’ wonderful smiles. Every time I visit I seem to make at least one mistake and cause trouble for the staff, but everyone is consistently kind and helpful, which makes me feel at ease staying here. This time as well, I accidentally selected the wrong gender option when booking and needed my loungewear exchanged; they handled it cheerfully. Thank you very much. My family enjoyed it too, and once again it turned into a wonderful trip. With travel subsidies starting up again, reservations filled quickly and I couldn’t book for autumn… which is very disappointing—but I’ll be back in winter, and I’m really looking forward to it.

从老字号旅馆的高地眺望汤本温泉,尽享新鲜海鲜与硫磺温泉

Stayed on a weekday before the Obon holiday in August with the most affordable plan for 4 people. Despite some initial concerns, it was excellent value for money and an incredibly satisfying stay. The room was about 12 tatami mats in size, with a spacious hallway entrance and a wide sitting area by the window overlooking trees, comfortably seating four people. The bathroom had two sinks, and while there was a toilet in the room, there were also toilets located throughout the hallways and other areas. The bath was spacious with slightly sulfur-scented Onsen water that left my skin feeling smooth. Meals were served at tables in a large tatami-floored dining area. There was a menu provided along with explanations from staff members. While not extravagant, the dishes were creative and deliciously satisfying. For those wanting more luxurious options like beef or crab dishes, upgrading to another plan might be better suited. Tea and water were self-serve but made using tea leaves rather than tea bags, which made it taste better; even the water itself tasted great! After check-in, our luggage was carried to our room by staff who were kind and attentive throughout our stay. The building itself is impressive yet simple in design—clean with quick elevator access—and we enjoyed relaxing without any crowds at the baths or elsewhere around the Ryokan grounds. The road leading to this Ryokan wasn’t narrow either! One thing to note: they provide yukata robes but only one Onsen towel besides bath towels; so bringing your own pajamas or face towels might be helpful (especially if you find sleeping in yukata uncomfortable like I do). Would love to visit again!

温泉地周边的素敌住宿

源泉不间断流动的桧木温泉浴池,使用时令食材制作的料理

I wanted to get away from my everyday routine and focus on work, so I stayed here for a 2-night, 3-day workcation (1 dinner and 2 breakfasts). Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. For someone like me who enjoys meals with rice, there were so many dishes that I couldn’t finish everything in one bowl. It felt thoughtfully planned for guests who want to enjoy the main and side dishes as well. I could really sense the care behind the meals—consideration for both those who drink alcohol and those who don’t—and it left a warm impression. The Sendai beef at dinner was restaurant-quality (sorry if that sounds rude). The local nanbanzuke-style mehikari was also great, but the black sesame tofu at breakfast was especially delicious. The desserts were also very elaborate—I was impressed. The hot spring isn’t large, but it’s clean and well maintained, more than enough to enjoy free-flowing natural hot spring water. I also appreciated having a high-quality hair dryer available. Being able to use the hot spring even late at night must be a big burden for the staff, but as a guest it was wonderful not having to worry about time. The room was clean, spacious, and very satisfying. The TV was large and positioned perfectly for easy viewing—I could feel how much thought had gone into guest comfort. The staff’s hospitality was polite and high quality; it made me want to be an equally considerate guest in return. This is definitely a hotel I’d love to visit again.

Stayed in a smoking double room for a Multiple Night Stay in Iwaki City for work. Here’s my review from the perspective of a heavy smoker and drink enthusiast. Location: There is a parking lot right in front of the hotel with a maximum fee of ¥500 for 24 hours. A convenience store (Lawson), a day-use Onsen (Sahako no Yu), and Yumoto Station are all about a 5-minute walk away, making the location very convenient. However, there are very few dining options, even around the station, so it’s necessary to do some research in advance. I walked up and down the nearby streets twice and found only one izakaya where smoking was allowed ("Odoriba" near the station). The friendly hostess, affordable drinks, and smoking-friendly environment were great, but unfortunately, the place is set to close in a year due to station redevelopment. Many shops had their shutters down, possibly due to the off-season. The adjacent yakitori restaurant "Juhachiban" does not allow smoking but had pleasant service and reasonable prices for a tourist area, making it a recommended spot. Further down, the bar "Mai Tai" seemed to allow smoking at its outdoor sidewalk seating, but I didn’t try it as it looked stylish and seemed a bit pricey. Hotel Room: The glass-walled bathroom (frosted glass, but still) felt a bit uncomfortable. Other than that, there were no major issues. The room was clean and well-maintained. Unlike many hotels where removing the key card cuts off all electricity, this hotel allowed the refrigerator to stay on while I was out, which was convenient for keeping drinks cold during a Multiple Night Stay. The availability of an extension cord was also a nice touch. Other Notes: There is no ice machine or ice service at the front desk, so I had to buy ice from the convenience store for in-room drinks. There is a vending machine for beer and sours next to the front desk. A map of nearby restaurants is also available at the front desk, which was helpful for exploring the area. Considering the rising prices of hotels recently, this hotel offered excellent value for money. The room facilities and location made it a very cost-effective choice.
