Shirakabako Lakeside Hotel Yamako-kaku

I was worried about bath towels after reading that this Accommodation is inexpensive because it doesn’t provide amenities, but when I arrived I found I could rent them cheaply. You’ll need to bring your own toothbrush, paper cups, and similar items. There was body soap and shampoo in the bathroom. They only open the large communal bath when there are groups such as training camps; normally you use the unit bath in your Room. You make up your own futon bedding. The building is old, but the Room was kept clean. Instead of vending machines, there is a clear refrigerator in front of the front desk with water and tea; you can take one freely by leaving 150 yen. It’s right by the lake. When I opened the door it smelled a bit musty, but inside the Room was fine. The staff at reception were kind and friendly—an older lady with a nice manner. Since it’s cheap, I was fully satisfied even if a few things were lacking. The internal phone wasn’t working well, so if you need anything you’ll have to use your mobile phone or go speak to them directly. Turning on the bathroom light took a bit of know-how, but I called to ask and managed in the end.

We stayed for two nights during the Obon period. I was a bit concerned about my family's reaction after reading comments about the facility being old, but thanks to renovations, it was very clean, thoughtfully designed, and well-maintained, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. Our family has small children and enjoys camping, so this accommodation suited us perfectly. However, some people might find it inconvenient that there is no elevator to the second-floor rooms or that the toilets are shared. It may not be ideal for those seeking luxury or full-service accommodations and therefore may not appeal to everyone. However, if you're someone who can manage things on your own and enjoys camping but wants to stay in a room this time around, you'll likely enjoy it here. The nearby Lake Tateshina was perfect for an early check-in stroll; we were able to use the boats without waiting in line and made good use of our time. It was a lot of fun! The location is also convenient by car for visiting Kurumayama or Shirakabako Lake. We would love to make this our base again in the future! Thank you very much! We'll visit again soon!
