Nagaoka Grand Hotel

It was excellent! The Room was spacious and very clean. There were no unpleasant aspects, and I had a comfortable stay. Additionally, although the usage time is fixed, the welcome drink service included not only soft drinks but also Japanese sake tasting and chuhai, with unlimited refills—a truly attractive feature! I would definitely like to use it again if I have the chance.

My check-in ended up being at 9:00 PM, and on top of that my website Reservation overlapped with my Yahoo! Travel Reservation, so I accidentally booked one extra Room. Even so, I was told the Cancellation Fee would be waived, which I really appreciated. Also, although it was a single Room, it had a sofa bed—almost like a twin—yet I could stay for nearly the price of a single. The firmness of the sofa bed was just right for me, and I slept very well.The large public bath alternates between men and women, so I couldn’t use it at night and used the in-room bathroom instead. Even as a woman I felt it was quite small, so my husband—who only took a morning shower—must have found it especially cramped. In the morning it was the women’s time slot, so I enjoyed a relaxing soak in the large public bath (the binchotan charcoal kept me wonderfully warm), and overall I was satisfied. However, I’m deducting one star because the bath is located at the back of the 5th-floor guest room area (so we had to be mindful of noise early in the morning), there were only three washing stations, we had to go to the front desk to pick up a key (a keypad lock would avoid needing staff assistance), and while we could unlock it without any issue when entering, we couldn’t lock it from outside when leaving (others seemed to struggle too; this should be fixed). We ended up asking someone inside to close it for us.Overall though, we were very happy with our stay. My husband didn’t use the large public bath but still said he was satisfied with the Hotel as well.Another big plus is the excellent location: using an elevated walkway from the station lets you reach Aore City Hall without walking through snow—and this Hotel is right next door (Aore is a wonderful building designed by Kengo Kuma).(For breakfast, we took a walk and ate at a bakery near the station with an eat-in area.)If we have another chance to visit again, we would definitely stay here.
