Matsuba Onsen Taki no Yu

I stayed with my 91-year-old mother, who uses a walking cart. Thank you for the Shuttle Service from Kaizuka Station. The meals had a gentle flavor and were very delicious; my mother said they were delicious and finished everything. We were able to relax in the Onsen in our Room.\nMy mother says she wants to come again, so please welcome us back.

When visiting with my elderly parents, our requirements were barrier-free access, and the deciding factor was that the open-air bath in the Room is fed by an Onsen. This time, even family members who couldn’t make it to the large public bath were able to enjoy the Onsen with peace of mind. This place mainly operates as a day-use Onsen, with only six Rooms for overnight stays. The accommodation building has new Facilities, is well maintained, and we were very satisfied. We went to the large public bath in the evening, but it was not separated from day-use guests, and since it follows day-use hours (9:00–21:00), I felt it might be better to use the Onsen in the Room instead. However, at night the lantern next to the open-air bath on the terrace was not lit and it was too dark, so we couldn’t use it late at night. If there had been clear instructions on how to turn on a light, we would have felt safer using it. In the early morning, we enjoyed soaking in the Onsen while looking out at green mountains and feeling the sunrise. To reach our Room from the lobby you go downstairs through a guest-only area unlocked with a key; however, there is a fairly long sloped tatami corridor to walk along, and also a long corridor decorated in a retro Showa style leading to the dining area. This was somewhat difficult for family members with limited mobility. The food was delicious. Unfortunately, at dinner time some staff seemed very busy and their service didn’t feel particularly attentive or welcoming (it felt more like an ordinary restaurant), which was disappointing. At check-in they disinfected my walking cart wheels and cane at the entrance and allowed me to use them throughout the building and inside our Room as well, which was extremely helpful. The Room only had a low table with floor chairs; I would have appreciated having a small table and standard chairs (there were some on the terrace). From night until breakfast time, only guests staying in those six Rooms were inside during that period, so it felt calm and comfortable. We also received complimentary late-night snacks and free drinks from the refrigerator, plus a small souvenir when leaving. I’d love to visit again—next time during colder weather.
