To get straight to the point, this became an absolute favorite! I used to think staying overnight in Arima Onsen was expensive (especially with meals), so my usual style was to stay at a Hotel in Kobe, then stop by Arima Onsen the next day—soak at Kin no Yu or Gin no Yu and enjoy street food. This time I found this Hotel, and since it’s a No Meals Included Plan but still comes with tickets for the public baths, I was excited that I could finally fully enjoy Arima Onsen!! I arrived in the early afternoon and they kindly let me park my car at the Hotel. From the very beginning, all of the staff were incredibly kind and welcomed me so warmly! The location is easy to find since it’s just up from the shopping street, and Taiko no Yu is also right nearby. I walked from the Hotel and enjoyed street food starting from below all the way up to shops higher up, but it never felt far coming back. Also, while it may be an older property, everything is kept very clean, so it didn’t bother me at all—I was completely comfortable. I went to Kin no Yu, Gin no Yu, and Taiko-no-Yu Donokan as well, but personally I liked this Hotel’s bath the best! It wasn’t crowded and I could relax in a spacious setting. The foot acupressure bath felt amazing—I enjoyed it morning and night like a kid again! You do one loop through both cold water and hot water areas, and the stones underfoot give just the right amount of stimulation. Since I happened to be alone at that time, I went around several times! The hot water itself was also fantastic! The post-bath drink bar was another nice touch. And even the sweets with tea in my Room were something I already loved from Arima Onsen—so for the first time in a while I bought some at the shop to take home! Staying at this Hotel let me enjoy Arima Onsen to its fullest—it was refreshing and wonderful. Thank you as well for your pleasant service—I'll definitely come again!

I’m sorry to say this, because everything else was so wonderful, but I just couldn’t accept the drink prices, so I’m writing it here. My husband and I love Arima Onsen and visit twice a year. Even during the difficult COVID period, every inn worked so hard, and we kept coming to relax. Recently—perhaps due to inbound tourism—prices everywhere have been rising, and it’s started to feel out of reach for ordinary people like us. In that context, Gekkoen felt reasonably priced, and since I also remembered the TV commercials from childhood, we decided to stay here this time. It has a retro Showa-era feel and seems old in places, but that actually adds charm. Everything was well cleaned and well maintained—we were genuinely impressed as a couple and wondered why we hadn’t come sooner. The hot spring water was great as well; walking along the riverside at a relaxed pace before soaking made it especially lovely. Dinner was buffet-style, but seating was arranged comfortably in a calm tatami room. A hot pot and sashimi were elegantly set at each person’s place setting, and the rest of the dishes were also beautifully prepared with refined flavors—an excellent buffet overall. Now then—what sake should we pair with this delicious meal? When I looked at the menu, I couldn’t believe my eyes! Next to familiar sake brands that we’ve had before were prices I’d never seen anywhere. Beer prices still seemed within reason, but the sake prices were so outrageously high that it nearly knocked me over (laugh). So we thought we’d go with wine instead—but a glass of wine was 9,900 yen. We assumed it must be for a half bottle by mistake… but no—it really said “glass.” The mother-and-daughter guests next to us reacted exactly the same way when they saw the menu too, and all four of us ended up laughing together. Well thanks to that (in a way), we didn’t spend anything on alcohol—and since we didn’t drink, we enjoyed even more food until we were full. This is truly the only thing that felt disappointing. We were so shocked that I even forgot to take a photo of the menu. Is this also an effect of inbound tourism? With the weak yen maybe overseas visitors can order plenty of drinks—but for Japanese guests like us it feels far too expensive. The staff provided wonderful service throughout. The entire property was clean everywhere you looked; it’s an inn where you’d want to return again—and bring friends as well—but I just can’t get over how disappointing only this one point was (sorry for repeating myself).

ที่พักที่มีเพียง 10 หลังในพื้นที่กว้างขวาง โดยทุกห้องแยกออกจากกัน

This was my third stay. After arriving while it was still light out, I first enjoyed Goshobo’s semi-mixed Onsen and the large public bath with its golden Onsen. Since it was summer, even a short soak left me sweating nonstop. In the large bath, I shared the water with someone for the first time here; we had a pleasant chat and ended up soaking a bit longer. Dinner was a lighter, seafood-focused course. The chilled Awaji spiny lobster soup was a perfect match with Koshu wine. The highlight began with sashimi of meita-garei flounder and aged sea bream, followed by more Akashi-ura fish to enjoy. The charcoal-grilled Spanish mackerel and the Akashi sea bream acqua pazza were both seasonal specials you can only have here at this time of year. The broth in the acqua pazza was much lighter than last autumn’s filefish version. To finish, the cheese course left me fully satisfied in both quality and quantity—thank you for the wonderful meal. For breakfast, I switched back to the standard menu: milk, soup, vegetables—an all-around delicious plate—beautiful French toast, and yogurt meant to savor the jam and honey. Everything tasted exactly as good as expected. Even the mini breads were great; this time, the buttery croissant was my favorite. In my Room bath, I topped up little by little while letting it cool slightly, enjoying a pleasantly lukewarm golden Onsen. The breeze through the window felt wonderful: lush greenery everywhere, distant summer skies, murmuring sounds of life outside—and cicadas loud enough not to lose to them. Summer Onsen really is something special. After breakfast I alternated between the golden Onsen and the low-temperature sauna. It was an extremely satisfying holiday stay. Thank you very much. P.S. As always, before check-in I stopped by Sabor for a Tajima-gen burger and a café au lait.
