This time, we visited Lake Kawaguchi and Hakone for the first time, looking forward to seeing Mt. Fuji as part of my wife’s birthday trip. Although it was too cloudy to see the Mt. Fuji we had hoped for, we stayed at Setsugetsuka Bettei Suiun in Hakone and were able to fully enjoy the area. Our Room was a Standard Fourth, and it was very practical and well maintained with thorough cleaning, so we had a comfortable stay. The Onsen was at just the right temperature for me and left me feeling refreshed from the core, and it was also great to be able to use L’OCCITANE shampoo. For dinner, being able to choose the main dish and rice during the meal felt like a thoughtful service that let us decide based on our appetite. Breakfast offered such an abundant variety that we were so full we couldn’t even eat lunch afterward. The after-bath lounge area, along with complimentary drinks and snacks on each floor, was also a welcome service whenever we felt a little hungry. The staff’s hospitality was polite and easy to understand, which left a strong impression on us as well. After checkout we went to Gora Park, and at that time a parking staff member kindly advised us that taking the mountain railway one stop would allow us to walk downhill from top to bottom more easily—very helpful advice for an older couple like us. We hope to come back soon for our “I want to see Mt. Fuji with my own eyes!” revenge trip, and when we do, we would love to stay with you again.

สถานีโกระ เดินประมาณ 3 นาที ออนเซ็นกลางแจ้งส่วนตัวพร้อมวิวภูเขาเมียวโจที่น่าหลงใหล

We stayed in the detached “Tsuki” room with a private open-air bath. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean, and it had two Simmons semi-double beds, so we slept comfortably with plenty of space. There are two different hot springs with different water qualities: the in-room open-air bath uses Kiga Onsen, while the open-air bath in the large public bath uses Owakudani Onsen. As soon as we arrived, we went to the public bath first to enjoy the milky, cloudy waters of Owakudani Onsen, then after dinner we took our time soaking in the private open-air bath in our room. The next morning, we started again with the open-air bath at the public bath—truly a hot-spring-filled stay. Both times we used the public bath there was no one else there, so it felt completely private; we were able to relax without even needing to use the free reservable private baths. After soaking right after arrival, I had a welcome beer. Since I’d already been in the hot spring, I skipped using the footbath and enjoyed it in the lobby instead. The beer tasted amazing after bathing. Dinner was kaiseki cuisine. It may look like small portions at first glance, but it was beautifully presented (including the tableware), carefully prepared, well seasoned, and delicious. My husband eats a lot and eats quickly; he seemed like he wanted a bit more midway through, but by the time he finished everything he was full and satisfied. There were many drink options as well; however, all sake was only available by single-serving carafe (one go), which was a little disappointing. When traveling we usually order a local sake tasting set (often three kinds served in small cups) to find favorites for souvenirs—but that wasn’t available here. The mandarin orange cocktail I chose instead was delicious though; if I’d ordered sake I probably wouldn’t have tried it, so perhaps it worked out for the best. Breakfast also had many side dishes and was very tasty—we were completely full. You don’t often eat that much breakfast unless you’re staying at a ryokan. In addition to yukata you can borrow near reception, there were also samue loungewear and a bathrobe provided in our room. Since I tend to toss and turn while sleeping, being able to sleep in samue instead of yukata was great. The amenities and supplies were well stocked too, and coffee made by grinding beans with a mill tasted excellent. The only disappointment was that there wasn’t an insect screen on our window. We wanted to cool down naturally after bathing by letting fresh air in—but without a screen mosquitoes would come inside if we opened it. Other than that everything was excellent. It’s highly recommended for adults looking for a relaxed getaway. Thank you very much.
