I am a senior resident of Osaka, and this was my first visit to Tenkawa Village. Thank you for taking such good care of us. From my 30s onward I was constantly away on long business trips, then worked overseas from my late 40s through late 50s. After retiring at 60, I was assigned alone to a domestic affiliate company—15 years living apart from my family in total. During that time, I left all childcare and household responsibilities to my wife. Now that I have reached my second retirement at 65, I wanted—at the very least—to make it up to her. Because she loves nature (gorges, limestone caves, views from high elevations, and more), and because seeing fireflies was her top wish, we chose Nishisei as a Ryokan with delicious cuisine in an area where we could enjoy firefly viewing as well as an Onsen. We stayed one night from July 10 to 11. We arrived a little early for check-in, but you kindly welcomed us right away. While sightseeing, my wife lightly twisted her ankle. When I mentioned it to the female staff member in charge, she immediately brought us a cold compress patch. After dinner, you also drove us to a spot where we could see fireflies. Just as we had heard beforehand, everyone in this area is truly kind—I felt genuine hospitality throughout our stay. The manager told us that it might be hard to know whether we would be able to see any fireflies due to the timing of the season; however, at the riverside spot he guided us to, there were what seemed like well over one hundred flying about—a sight that even surprised him! We were deeply moved by the incredible swarm of fireflies unlike anything we had ever seen before. My wife said that every part of this trip matched her tastes perfectly and that she enjoyed it immensely. Personally as well—the Onsen (a bit hot but wonderfully refreshing afterward), the delicious meals served in our spacious private dining room-style setting, and the dancing fireflies—everything impressed me greatly. This was my first time visiting Yoshino. The cherry blossoms had not yet started to bloom, but we were shown to a Room with a wonderful view of the Ryokan’s courtyard. I can imagine how spectacular it must be when the blossoms are in full bloom. The meals (dinner and breakfast) were very delicious. The Onsen was just right, and I could enjoy it as many times as I liked without feeling unwell from the hot water.

This is the only accommodation located in Kanau, famous for its connection to the "Taiheiki." The accommodation accepts only 1-2 groups per day. The building was originally a residence of a local noble family and served as a temporary palace for the Southern Court, which resisted the Northern Court. It has been renovated into a hotel and restaurant, offering guests a unique opportunity to experience history by staying in what was once an imperial residence. While the facilities and meals may not match those of luxury hotels, the owner, who comes from a long-standing noble family that has protected this area for generations, can share fascinating stories about medieval history upon request. Adjacent to the accommodation is a museum, and nearby on higher ground lies the tomb of Kitabatake Chikafusa. However, there are no other major tourist attractions in this area. This accommodation serves as a base for those wishing to explore Kanau's serene countryside. Please note that transportation is very limited; while there are buses from JR Gojo Station, they run only a few times per day. We recommend checking bus schedules carefully before planning your visit.

I stayed for one night and two days as a solo female guest. It was very comfortable. I felt the hospitality was truly heartfelt. I will visit again.

It was said that it had been snowing until the day before, but there was no snowfall on the day of our stay, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant visit. The light layer of remaining snow added to the charm. We were able to relax in the Onsen and enjoyed a delicious meal. Thank you very much!

I stayed here in mid-June while visiting ancient tombs with friends during the special exhibition at the Kitora Tumulus. The Room, meals, and the bath and toilet were all very comfortable and relaxing. The rice was delicious, and I was especially happy with how good the sake at dinner and the coffee after breakfast were. The sunset over Komiya Dotan behind the Accommodation was beautiful, as it was just when the rice paddies were filled with water. In the morning, we climbed nearby Amakashi Hill and enjoyed watching the sunrise together. I had wanted to take my time in Asuka to see both sunset and sunrise, so I’m truly glad I chose this Accommodation. When I forgot my phone charger, you contacted me right away, which really helped. Thank you for a wonderful stay—I’d love to visit again to watch another sunset.

I’d been curious about Yoshino in Nara Prefecture, but hadn’t been able to visit for years. I’m grateful I could finally go and stay at an affordable price. Of course, during cherry blossom season the prices and crowds must be completely different. The Accommodation feels like a typical guesthouse, but it’s well cleaned and there are many newer, nice items. At night I was slightly mindful of whether someone else was using the shared toilet. When I tried to go buy half-price bento boxes at the supermarket across the bridge, the staff recommended a different shop instead, which for some reason stuck with me.

I stayed here to visit a nearby shrine. The price was reasonable, and since there was an Onsen, I chose it without overthinking it… but I was amazed by how wonderful the service was. On the day I stayed, most of the staff were older (the younger ones were probably around their 40s?), which actually made the atmosphere feel calm and reassuring. The meals were delicious, and I felt it was a great value. The Onsen was also excellent, and I had a very comfortable stay. The building itself wasn’t new, but everything was kept very clean. I’d like to stay again if I have the chance. Just one thing… if there were something like Febreze in the Room, it would be perfect. I used this Accommodation for the final night of my trip, and it helped me end my journey with wonderful memories.

I was able to get away from everyday life and truly enjoy my stay. The duck hot pot at dinner had a comforting broth, the rice was delicious, and the local sake Hanatomoe was easy to drink and paired perfectly with the meal. And the water is wonderful—I believe you mentioned that you use spring water from underground. We enjoyed so many blessings from the mountains and river and finished everything. Thank you for the feast. The Dorogawa Onsen bath was also soothing and relaxing. Thank you for everyone’s warm hospitality and thoughtful care.

This was a very thoughtfully designed Accommodation. The guest building was wonderful. The meals were delicious (both breakfast and dinner). Using the public bath was fun. The staff member who assisted us at check-in was also very pleasant. I would like to stay here again when I visit Nara.

The Room was clean, and the front desk staff were friendly. However, the toilet and washbasin felt uncomfortably close—like in a studio apartment. That said, dinner was excellent, so overall it was a satisfying stay. The portion size, quality, and atmosphere were all great.

Judging from the exterior photos of the building, I honestly didn’t have high expectations, but I was truly impressed by the attentive service. The view of Tanzan Shrine from the Room was as beautiful as a postcard. On the day of my stay, I was told there would be an illumination at Tanzan Shrine, and I was moved to see the fantastical buildings and cherry blossoms. When I mentioned that I would go for an early-morning walk, they kindly prepared shoes for me even though it was 6:00 a.m., and they were waiting for me when I returned. At breakfast, while enjoying ozoni served with local kinako, I also heard various stories about the area from the staff. After attending morning worship at Tanzan Shrine and strolling around the grounds for a while before returning to the Hotel, they even drove me in their Shuttle Service despite how close the parking lot was. The building does show its history in places, but it’s clear that careful attention has been paid to details such as renovated bathrooms, toilets, and windows. The cleaning is also extremely thorough. It was a wonderful Accommodation.

Stayed with the One-Night Stay with Breakfast Plan. The bath in the Room was unexpectedly spacious and allowed me to enjoy the view while relaxing, which was very satisfying. I would love to visit again during cherry blossom or autumn foliage season. The breakfast was also satisfying in both content and taste.

The whole town retains a retro Onsen-town atmosphere, and while the Room doesn’t even have a refrigerator and there are many things you won’t find, it feels like visiting your grandmother’s old home, so you can truly relax. I didn’t see many foreign visitors either, and for the first time in a while I felt like I was back in my hometown in Japan. This may be selfish of me, but I hope it never changes.

The covered balcony was perfect for BBQs. It was convenient to return indoors quickly to grab ingredients or drinks. Even without our own BBQ equipment, we managed easily with charcoal, fire starters, and a lighter. The disposable grill net and not having to clean up the charcoal were also very helpful. As a suggestion, providing mattresses, shampoo, conditioner, body soap, instant coffee, or tea would make the stay even better. Thank you for hosting us!
