I was able to relax and enjoy both the open-air bath and the large public bath. The Room was clean and spacious, and the bath in the Room was very pleasant as well. The food was truly delicious—I was impressed. The staff were very courteous, and I wished I could have stayed one more night. I’ve stayed at many Accommodations, but my friend and I agreed this Accommodation exceeded our expectations in every way. I’d love to stay again. Thank you!

It was our first family trip in six years. The Ryokan’s atmosphere, the meals, and the open-air bath in our Room were all outstanding. My family was very happy as well.

This time, due to the circumstances of the original accommodation (Bokakakan), we stayed at Ryokan Gero Onsen Sasara. Initially, we were a bit anxious, but we were completely satisfied with the meals, room, onsen, and staff. This accommodation is one we would like to use again when visiting Gero Onsen.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. We were interested in the traditional hearth (irori), so we chose this Accommodation. Although it is old, it is well kept, and the staff kindly recommended various sightseeing spots, which made our celebration even more special. We also really enjoyed the irori experience. We would love to visit again if we have the chance.

The bath was, of course, outstanding, and since the Hotel is on a hill, the view was great and I could truly relax. The all-inclusive plan was also nice because it felt relatively unhurried (at another Hotel, I once saw people rushing to grab seats the moment it started, which put me off). The food went beyond the ordinary with thoughtful touches, so I enjoyed it with excitement. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming, which was very soothing. I’d love to stay again.

This was my first stay here. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room in the Sasara building, which had been renovated and was very clean. The staff member assisting us was a foreigner, so some explanations of the meals were a little hard to understand, but it was clear they had studied well. Every dish was delicious. By chance, it was the first day of the Gero Onsen Festival, and I was moved to be able to watch the fireworks while soaking in the open-air bath at night. We were able to relax and enjoy our time.

This riverside Accommodation was truly wonderful. Meals weren’t the typical one-set Ryokan style; there were several choices available. The portions were just right—not too much—so I could sleep well at night, and I also felt thoughtful attention to detail throughout. I was especially grateful that, unlike many places, there was no noise from children during meals, so I could enjoy everything quietly and at a relaxed pace. Dining while enjoying the cool breeze and scenery through the riverside windows became an unforgettable time. For bathing, I used a private bath. Because I have surgical scars, I was most grateful that they prepared a private bath where I could bathe with peace of mind. The free-flowing natural spring water was beautifully pure and felt cleansing even to the soul. The Room had double-pane windows for soundproofing and insulation, showing how carefully it had been renovated. Since I’m not used to sitting on tatami floors in daily life, having a bed and table made the Room very comfortable, and I appreciated that consideration. Also, as someone with strong cleanliness preferences, I really appreciated the small but thoughtful touch of providing unopened individually wrapped pocket tissues instead of a partly used box of tissues often found in Ryokan. The meals were also pleasing for someone like me who pays attention to additives; in particular, they had a nostalgic flavor that reminded me of my grandmother’s cooking—she was especially good at German cuisine. The juice served was freshly squeezed as well, and it was clear that each dish had been prepared with great care. I was genuinely happy to find an Accommodation like this in Japan. Both the proprietress and her husband were very friendly and interacted with me at just the right distance—even though I’m shy—so my stay felt truly comfortable. If I have another chance to visit Gero Onsen, I would love to book a Multiple Night Stay—starting the morning with German beer and then enjoying lunch as well. Thank you very much for such a pleasant stay.

I stayed at Ogawaya for two nights, and dinner was excellent on both days. The second night in particular made me very happy with its full Hida beef course. Breakfast also offers a wide variety of dishes and is delicious. There are many staff members from Southeast Asia, and most of them provide warm hospitality with sincere effort and a smile. The Room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The welcome sweet, blueberry daifuku, was also delicious! It would be even better if the skincare amenities were a bit higher quality. Thank you very much.

It was a very cozy Accommodation. The air conditioning had a dial from LOW to HI, but even on LOW it cooled very well, so it was hard to adjust. I stayed with my 87-year-old mother-in-law, and we found it more difficult than expected for her to get up from the futon, so I realized we should choose a Room with beds next time. On the day of our stay, there happened to be a festival, and we could even see fireworks right by the window. After that, a samba group performed in front of the Ryokan, which was great fun. The Onsen had wonderful water that really relieved our fatigue—my skin stayed smooth for 2–3 days afterward. The Hida beef dishes were exceptional! I especially recommend the sukiyaki. Since we don’t drink alcohol, I wished we had asked to have rice served at the same time. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Our family has been coming here for four generations since the early days, and this time the timing worked out, so I visited with my mother and cousin on a trip for three. With its thoughtful design for elderly guests, meals that make the most of excellent ingredients in a satisfying yet not excessive amount, and a spotless bath area kept clean with frequent cleaning, it truly is a wonderful, prestigious Accommodation. Most places have one or two little moments that make you think “Hmm?”, but from arrival to departure everything was comfortable, making for an excellent stay. Next time, around autumn, I’m hoping to visit again on my own for a change of pace—or perhaps with just my son.

We stayed just after the Golden Week holidays. The front desk staff, restaurant team, and housekeeping staff we passed on our way out were all pleasant and handled everything smoothly. Our Room had an open-air bath; although it was listed as having no view at the time of Reservation, we were able to enjoy the mountains across the river, the lights of nearby Onsen Accommodations, and a sky full of stars. We had recently stayed at a related property in Yamashiro Onsen and expected similar meals, but the buffet selection was different here, and in particular the local Gero specialty “Kei-chan” chicken was delicious. The baths were used by quite a few guests, but they never felt crowded, and everything was well cleaned and easy to use. We were able to relax and enjoy a wonderful, unhurried stay. We would love to stay again.

I booked a 3-night stay for the ayu fishing tournament with No Meals Included, but thank you for accommodating my request to add meals for two days. The variety of baths helped me relax and recover from fatigue. Personally, I would be happy if there were a coin laundry available. I’ll do my best so I can come again next year. I’m very satisfied.

I stayed here again for the first time in a year with my sister and my 95-year-old mother. We requested the same top-floor Room as last year, with a private bath. The bath is filled with Onsen water, and since my mother’s legs have weakened and she can’t go to the large public bath, our main purpose was to let her soak in the Onsen. Another highlight is the wonderful service from the female staff at the dining venue—warm, pleasant, and truly excellent. The meals are of course delicious too (haha)! The only drawback is that the lounge in the first-floor lobby is not barrier-free. It would be perfect if there were a ramp.

I was very satisfied with this Onsen Accommodation surrounded by nature, and there was also a great souvenir shop.

We stayed using a borrowed wheelchair, and the staff provided attentive support, which was a great help.

I’ve been making regular Reservations at this beloved Accommodation for about 10 years now. They always welcome me warmly, and the atmosphere is homey and incredibly comfortable. The Accommodation is also clean and well maintained. On top of that, the proprietress and the head chef are both wonderful people. The Onsen uses pure natural spring water, so the quality is excellent—it warms you to the core and leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized. And above all, the food is simply outstanding. Each dish is brought out freshly prepared, so everything is served hot. You can really feel the care in every detail—beautifully presented with refined flavors. Everything is delicious, but I was especially amazed by the breakfast miso soup. Personally, it was the best I’ve ever had! In every way, satisfaction here is consistently high—an Accommodation that makes you want to come back right away. I’ll be making another Reservation soon. Please take good care of yourselves—I’m looking forward to seeing you again next time.

We stayed here during the three-day holiday weekend in July. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The cute little touches throughout made us smile. The massage chair was also very relaxing. In addition, the host’s hospitality was excellent, and my companion said it was wonderful as well. Thank you very much.

Due to unexpected weather during our trip, we ended up staying at this Hotel. It was our first time at a pension, but the warm hospitality of the owner and his wife left a lasting impression. We also felt a special connection as the owner's wife’s family home is near ours. We were amazed by the delicious Hida beef, as we usually have Yamagata or Sendai beef. The meals were homely yet offered flavors beyond what we could experience at home. We will definitely visit again when traveling nearby!

It was truly amazing! The staff were wonderful, the Room was clean, and the Onsen was fantastic! Nothing to complain about!
