A calm Accommodation in a quiet, secluded area with hardly any traffic noise, where you can truly feel time pass peacefully. The meals weren’t overly large and the number of dishes was modest, but each one was carefully prepared and delicious. It was an adult-oriented Accommodation where you can genuinely relax and unwind.

The hot springs were wonderful. My skin felt silky-smooth in the water. The samue loungewear was great, with elastic at the wrists and ankles, and the fabric felt gentle on the skin. Even though the hotel was fully booked, I was able to enjoy the large public bath as if it were private. The open-air bath in the room was also spacious, and I imagine it must be stunning during cherry blossom or hydrangea season—though it may be hard to get a reservation because it’s so popular. The meals were all delicious as well, including corn soup, cheese chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), Jerusalem artichoke chips, and mukago (wild yam bulbils). I found an inn I would truly love to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Thank you for the wonderful service—it made our stay truly exceptional. First, I accidentally made a Reservation with the wrong gender, but you quickly brought us yukata in different sizes, which was very helpful. With fewer guests staying, the attentive, personalized service really stood out. We also enjoyed the complimentary pudding—it was delicious. The Onsen was available at night as well, so we could relax and take our time. The bed felt a bit firm and slightly uncomfortable to sleep on, but other than that we had no complaints at all. Also, it was pouring rain at checkout, and you kindly handed us towels—this helped us so much. We truly appreciated your thoughtful attention to detail. We would love to stay here again when we visit Kusatsu.

It was a wonderful ryokan. I was very particular about choosing a place to stay, and it took me about 15 hours in total searching across Ikkyu, Agoda, Rakuten Travel, and TikTok. I wanted a ryokan rather than a hotel; kaiseki rather than a buffet; private dining or in-room meals rather than a dining hall; a Japanese-style breakfast; an open-air bath with natural scenery; reservable private baths or hot-spring water in the room; a quiet property without noisy group tours; within walking distance of Yubatake; a spacious room for three people; on-site payment rather than credit-card prepayment, and more. In the end, I was able to stay in an ideal location and it was fantastic. I was especially satisfied with the open-air baths in the morning and at night, and the delicious meals served in a private dining room. Our arrival ended up being later than planned due to our circumstances, but they kindly accommodated us, for which we are very grateful. Since it’s such a major tourist destination, I assumed it would be all hotels, but I’m so glad there is an authentic restaurant-style ryokan like this—thanks to it we had an amazing time and were truly happy.

We stayed here on a birthday trip to Kusatsu. We chose this ryokan for its proximity to Yubatake, the in-room open-air bath, and the delicious meals—and it exceeded our expectations! All of the staff were consistently courteous and made us feel truly welcome. Thank you very much. As for the baths, we were able to enjoy three different hot springs in the private open-air baths, and we had a wonderful time just the two of us. All of these open-air baths were spotless and thoughtfully designed. Personally, my favorite was the open-air bath in our room—the cool outside air and warm hot spring water were perfectly balanced, and I ended up soaking for a long time. The room was bright and cozy with sunlight streaming through the large windows. Everything was impeccably clean—not a speck of dust or litter anywhere. The futon bedding was fluffy and fresh, making me want to stay in bed forever. Every dish was delicious—exactly what you’d expect from such a place. We started the morning feeling great and completely satisfied. My favorites were the Japanese rolled omelet (atsuyaki tamago) and grilled Pacific saury with sweet soy glaze (sanma kabayaki). One of the best parts of Kusatsu Onsen is strolling around Yubatake in yukata, and I loved being able to choose from three different yukata styles—it really lifted my mood. They also lent us sandals that were comfortable enough to wear outside, so we could explore without getting tired. It was incredibly helpful. Staying at such a wonderful ryokan full of hospitality became a truly special memory. Thank you very much.

This was my first stay here with my son’s family of five. The Room felt very spacious, with high ceilings and plenty of room, so my grandchildren were thrilled and ran around happily. The small space on the second floor also had a wonderful view of Mt. Asama right in front of us, and it was truly relaxing to enjoy a drink while playing my favorite Western music. My grandchildren can be quite sensitive, so we choose our overnight stays very carefully, but this time they liked it so much that they asked me, “When are we coming again?” I’d love to return again soon. The staff were kind and efficient in preparing everything for us, and their attentive service made our stay very comfortable. It was truly a wonderful night. Thank you very much.

My husband (an American who loves hot springs) and I had a very satisfying 3-day, 2-night stay. We enjoyed relaxed breakfasts and dinners in a private dining room, and we especially loved having sushi freshly made right in front of us. The room was spacious, and the sofa was very large, so we could truly unwind. If we come back to Kusatsu Onsen again, we would love to stay at Naraya again.

This is a perfect Ryokan with meticulous attention to every detail. The building is beautifully maintained, and the finishes and Facilities feel refined. The Onsen is excellent, and the amenities are well stocked. The meals are delicious, served on beautiful tableware, and satisfy both taste and presentation. Drink prices are reasonable as well. The location is close to Yubatake, making it easy to enjoy a stroll around the area. I would definitely like to stay here again. Thank you very much.

This was our first stay here on a trip with four friends. The Room, the meals, and above all the service from all staff were outstanding. Every staff member was courteous and kind, and we truly felt first-class hospitality—worthy of a five-star Accommodation. Thanks to you, we were able to relax throughout our stay and enjoy a special time. The clean and comfortable Room, the wide variety of delicious and thoughtfully prepared buffet dishes, and the wonderful Onsen—all exceeded our expectations. Everyone in our group was very satisfied with this trip. When we visit Kusatsu again, we would definitely like to stay at Hotel Ichii again.

We stayed here as a couple. The entire concept is centered on enjoying alcohol, and it was immensely satisfying. From the moment we arrived, everything was explained at the bar counter while we enjoyed a welcome drink, which immediately built our excitement. Dinner was wonderfully composed using local ingredients, and the drinks to pair with each course were thoughtfully presented alongside the menu. We fully enjoyed both red and white wine as well as sake to our heart’s content. After dinner, we took a walk to Yubatake, and then at the bar we had a nostalgic Bowmore and an espresso martini for the first time—an excellent digestif. The hinoki in-room bath (hot spring), outstanding drinks and cuisine, and our first trip to Kusatsu became an irreplaceable memory. We would love to visit again.

We stayed in two Rooms with a total of seven people—my daughter’s family and my son. We have stayed here before, and it remains a favorite because we can truly relax, and both dinner and breakfast are served in private dining rooms so we can enjoy our meals at a leisurely pace. The grandchildren enjoyed not only the Onsen but also the pool, and they even wrote in their summer vacation diary that they want to come again. The staff also left a very positive impression with their courteous service.

I had a very comfortable stay! There were a few minor housekeeping issues, but the Room and the Hotel overall were clean. I was very satisfied with the meals as well! I thought it might be nice to use even more of my favorite Nagano ingredients. I’d love to stay again. Thank you very much.

The in-Room bath was great, and we also loved the four private baths available 24 hours a day with no Reservation required. The skincare lotion in the Room was Sekkisei, and for dinner we could choose rice or cheese. Even though we were full, the matsutake mushroom rice was so delicious that we finished it. In the evening, we were able to take the Shuttle Service bus to see the illuminated Yubatake. It was our first time in Kusatsu, and we truly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely like to stay again. We stayed for one night and two days with our grandchild. As mentioned in other reviews, the building and rooms are indeed a bit old, but everything was properly cleaned and we had no issues. With the all-you-can-play passport, we enjoyed bowling, the pool, craft-making, festival-style games, quizzes, a stamp rally, and more—plenty to keep us entertained. The free shuttle bus from the hotel to Yubatake at night was extremely helpful; it was my first time seeing the Yubatake illuminations, and I was surprised by how many tourists were there. Even though it was summer, walking around Yubatake felt pleasantly cool—almost a little chilly—which was wonderful. The next day we used the hotel shuttle again because I wanted my grandchild to enjoy street food and try the yumomi experience as well. We had only ever visited Kusatsu in winter before, so this was our first summer visit. While news reports talked about extreme heat in Tokyo, we were amazed at how cool and comfortable Kusatsu was in summer. At night we didn’t need air conditioning in our room—it actually felt slightly chilly. Summer in Kusatsu is great. The food was delicious, and everyone at the front desk, reception counters, and shop—especially the international staff—was very polite and pleasant. Every staff member provided excellent service; I was truly impressed. This hotel is highly recommended for families with children as well. We would love to visit again. The only downside is that the hotel is so large that it’s easy to get lost—especially when trying to find the baths (as other reviews mentioned), and yes, we got lost too. Overall though it was a wonderful hotel. Thank you very much.

It was a trip for two women, and we were able to relax, and the food was delicious. We both ended up like little piggies (oh—meant as a compliment!). We’d love to visit again when we get the chance.

We stayed for two nights and had a wonderful time. In addition to the Onsen, we were soothed by two different types of baths. During the day, we enjoyed soba in Tsumagoi Highlands and made the most of our trip from Shiga Highlands to Yamba Dam. The proprietress kindly shared tips on how to enjoy Yubatake and suggested nearby scenic drives, which helped us have a truly fulfilling holiday. We also thoroughly enjoyed the TsuruTaro Art Museum on site. Everything was perfect, and we were completely satisfied.

The sashimi set dinner featured local vegetables, and the sashimi was very fresh and delicious. The other dishes were also excellent, and we were very satisfied. The staff were kind, courteous, and attentive, making this a wonderful Accommodation. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

We stayed here for my girlfriend’s birthday trip. The Room was a Japanese-Western style, very spacious, and the open-air bath was excellent. We also ordered flowers; the size and color were perfect, and she was very happy with them. Thank you very much.
