We stayed for one night in Yayoi in July with our dog as a couple. We’ve stayed at many dog-friendly Accommodations, and this is the best one for us. I especially love sulfur Onsen, and while other dog-friendly Accommodations we’ve stayed at had Onsen, none had sulfur springs. Here, there is also a free-flowing natural hot spring bath in the Room, so we didn’t have to leave our dog waiting to go to a public bath. Even though many places don’t allow dogs in the bathroom area, this Accommodation provided a dog bathtub, shampoo, and towels—I've never stayed anywhere so thoughtful. Our senior large dog kept coming to watch us enjoy the Onsen with curiosity. Just walking through the spilled water from the free-flowing sulfur spring at the washing area turned his rough, cracked paw pads into smooth ones—just like the Reviews said. It’s truly an amazing Onsen. The Imabari bath towel after bathing was fluffy and very comfortable. Since it was a No Meals Included stay, we mainly brought takeout from Nasu restaurants. We also bought Nasu cheese and sausages along with drinks and snacks, and picked up bread and yogurt for breakfast at a nearby shop before heading to the Accommodation. With the best sulfur Onsen, delicious food and drinks from Nasu, a quiet setting, we were able to relax completely. Our dog also seemed very satisfied with the cool highland climate, peaceful greenery-filled surroundings, and private feel without running into other dogs—he looked truly relaxed. All of us were soothed by both nature and the Onsen and went home extremely happy. My husband said he wants to come again in winter too—so we’ll be making another Reservation. This was a truly wonderful Accommodation—one I’d absolutely love to return to! Both the exterior and interior were beautifully maintained, with tasteful decor and a very comfortable atmosphere. With pet-friendly Accommodations, you can sometimes notice odors in the Room, but that wasn’t the case here at all. The cleaning was impeccable, and everything felt extremely fresh and spotless—you wouldn’t even guess pets are welcome. Because of that, it also made me feel we should be extra mindful of good manners (such as using dog diapers) so everyone can enjoy their stay comfortably. The meals were delicious as well—gently seasoned so you can really taste the quality of the ingredients, and you could tell each dish was prepared with great care. The signature French toast in particular was outstanding! It’s something I highly recommend trying. Above all, the owner’s warm personality made our stay even more special—we were genuinely happy to be welcomed so kindly. Both the indoor bath and outdoor bath were great, and we were able to relax deeply. We had such a pleasant time with our dog; the food was excellent; and the owner was wonderful. It was an incredibly comfortable Accommodation. Thank you very much. We’d love to stay again!

It was a wonderful, very comfortable Accommodation. The Room layout and atmosphere were excellent, and simply gazing at the forest view from the window was soothing—I lost track of time. The in-room Onsen was easy to use, and the water temperature was perfect whenever I bathed. The staff who assisted us were also wonderful. The meals were delicious, and the portions were just right. I would love to stay again in a different season.

I stayed here on a solo trip as a treat for myself. From the moment I arrived, I was comforted by the staff’s warm and attentive hospitality. The meals were packed with fresh vegetables, with generous portions—I was completely satisfied. On top of that, the all-you-can-drink option, pre-dinner snacks, and dessert service made it a truly pampering stay. I was so full after dinner that I unfortunately couldn’t eat dessert, but next time I’d like to plan my appetite better so I can enjoy it. Even when we drove past the Hotel on our way out, the staff waved to me with big smiles, and it left me feeling warmly happy—almost to tears. Next time I’ll come with my family. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

I first stayed here last November and gave it a perfect score, and this time as well—it’s another perfect score. Above all, the Onsen (milky white sulfur spring) is outstanding. You’ll want to soak again and again. The men’s bath is compact with three washing stations, so it may feel a bit crowded when the Hotel is fully booked, but even so, it has a charm that makes you want to come back. Dinner and breakfast were also excellent—no complaints at all. There is a menu provided, but considering the price, it’s reasonable that the meal is set out on the table from the start. Try to be seated early if possible. The front desk staff and serving staff are very dog-friendly and wonderful. This time I used a Japanese-style Room, and they had prepared simple square mats so dogs wouldn’t slip on the wooden floor area; their thoughtful consideration—making them available as needed—was truly impressive. If I had one request for improvement: the wooden gate at the entrance to the outdoor dog run was partially rotted and starting to break, so I’d be happy if it could be repaired. Even with that, this is a Hotel worthy of a perfect score. I’ll be planning another stay, and I look forward to visiting again then.

Everything was wonderful, and I was especially impressed by how spacious the private bath was. Of course, the bath in the Room was also very relaxing, the meals were delicious, and the staff were kind and attentive—I loved everything. If I could make just one indulgent request, I would appreciate it if you could offer more savory snacks in the lounge (I wouldn’t mind paying for them), rather than only sweet items.

We stayed here on a family trip with my parents. The Room was spacious and airy, and the greenery visible from the window was truly beautiful—so we were able to relax from the moment we arrived. This time we stayed in two Rooms, “Sono Ichi” and “Sono Yon,” and both had large baths and were wonderful spaces where we could unwind completely. The staff’s thoughtfulness also left a strong impression. They responded attentively whenever needed, while maintaining a comfortable sense of distance that never felt intrusive. They warmly celebrated my mother’s birthday, which made my parents very happy. They even sent a forgotten item to our home, and we remained grateful until the very end of our stay. The meals were unforgettable as well. The cutlet was light yet full of rich lean-meat flavor, and absolutely delicious. And the ayu sweetfish was so good that everyone in our family agreed it was the best ayu we had ever had. From the Room and bath to the food and hospitality, everything was flawless. Thank you for making our precious family trip even more special.

Because the property is operated by a small team, there were a few minor things I noticed, but the meals were delicious and served in just the right portions, and I was able to enjoy the bath to my satisfaction with a Reservation. I’d love to come back in autumn to see the fall foliage.

We stayed as a three-generation family of six. Since it was the Obon holiday period, we expected crowds everywhere, but unlike a Hotel, it was much quieter than we imagined and we were able to relax and enjoy a truly wonderful time. The interior has high ceilings and feels very open, and it was spacious enough for six adults to stay comfortably. Because of the typhoon, it got so chilly at night that we turned on the heater, but the air conditioning worked well and kept us comfortable. The Onsen was also delightful, and the beautiful greenery visible from the window was very soothing. This time we ate out for dinner, but next time we’d like to use the hot plate and enjoy cooking together indoors. (One of us doesn’t like insects, so we’re glad we didn’t do a terrace BBQ. There were no bugs inside.) We also really appreciated having a washing machine (with dryer function) and detergent provided—it was extremely helpful when we suddenly needed to do laundry. Our parents were very happy as well and are already saying they want to come again, so we would love to visit again. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!!

We couldn’t hear pets from other rooms, and our dog seemed to relax and enjoy the stay. Having a private open-air bath made it easy to use at any time, which was wonderful. The meals were delicious, but since there were many hot pot dishes on a warm day, we felt that a few more chilled options might have been nice—overall, we were very satisfied.

It was a wonderful Accommodation. The staff’s service was very pleasant and made us feel truly comfortable. Their efforts for guests and thoughtful hospitality felt warmly sincere. It is a wonderful Accommodation where you can truly relax. We would love to visit again if we have the chance. It was our first time staying in Nasu, and it became a lovely memory for us. In particular, the male attendant’s lighthearted talk at dinner made everyone smile and created a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you very much. We also visited for an anniversary, and we were very happy to receive such a lovely gift. In fact, we just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. Thank you again for all your kindness and care. We will cherish it and use it with gratitude.

The bath was excellent. The staff were very courteous, and I would like to stay again. If I had to mention one drawback, there are many stairs, so I would appreciate a ramp.

This is my favorite pension and one I often stay at when visiting Nasu. The best part is the warm, homey atmosphere. We are always welcomed kindly, so our family can stay with peace of mind. The meals are delicious every time and you can really tell they are carefully prepared. It’s also a great bonus that there is an Onsen you can reserve for private use. There is a playroom where children can have fun, and you can feel the thoughtful attention for families with kids. Not only can adults relax, but children can enjoy themselves too, which makes it perfect for a family trip. No matter when we stay, the building and Rooms are always thoroughly cleaned, so we can spend our time very comfortably. It’s an Accommodation with warmth and comfort that’s different from a luxury Hotel. I think it’s easy to see why you’ll want to come back again and again. I’d love to stay here again the next time we visit Nasu.

Our first trip to Nasu-Shiobara. We had been looking forward to our stay very much. There were four of us: my 90-year-old mother, my husband and I in our 60s, and our daughter in her 30s. Everyone agreed that the Room, baths, and meals were all extremely satisfying. Our Room had a private open-air bath with free-flowing natural hot spring water, so my mother could soak many times with peace of mind. The spring quality was excellent as well—the hot water flowed continuously and left our skin feeling wonderfully smooth. The meals featured plenty of seasonal ingredients, were beautifully presented, and had gentle flavors—absolutely satisfying. It was such a wonderful Accommodation that our whole family agreed we definitely want to return during the autumn foliage season.

I stayed with my mother in her 80s. A Resort Hotel in the forest—we were able to relax quietly and take our time. The lobby, arranged with stone and wood, had a dignified, substantial atmosphere. The Room had plenty of indirect lighting, which felt very calming. However, if you want to read, it would be better to have a reading light. It was also nice to have a bath in the Room. The sulfur hot spring left my skin feeling smooth. At bedtime, the sound of running water was slightly noticeable. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented, and everything was delicious. It was also great that drinks were complimentary in the lounge. There is a large window in front of the counter, so you can feel close to the trees and nature outside. The staff were kind and very pleasant as well. I’d like to stay again.

The staff’s warm hospitality made us feel truly cared for, and we were able to forget about everyday life and relax in the Onsen. We also enjoyed the course dinner. We’d love to visit again.

As a mid-sized to small Hotel with relatively few guest rooms, it never gets unpleasantly crowded, so I can stay comfortably and I really like it. However, there are many families with children, and some people leave their kids unattended during meals, which was a bit troublesome. It doesn’t bother me elsewhere, but I do think a certain level of manners is necessary during meals. Even so, the Hotel is quiet and relaxing overall, and there are plenty of well-made dinosaur displays, so I like it a lot. I hope this Hotel continues for a long time—I’m rooting for you. By the way, this time the pool water seemed warmer than before—whether due to the setting or the season—and it wasn’t cold at all, so we could enjoy swimming comfortably without having to dash into the sauna.

We visited on a summer vacation weekend with our 6-month-old large dog (Golden Retriever, male) and our family of four. Nasu Highlands has many dog-friendly Accommodations, and we’re really glad we chose to stay here! The Dog Comfort Cottage was spacious, and any odors were hardly noticeable. Our dog was thrilled with the sofa and the terrace. The path to the bath is a steep slope, but it was convenient that we could enter the Onsen building directly. Thanks to that steep slope, the view from the terrace was exceptional. The dinner and breakfast buffet in particular were delicious, and everyone—from the person serving us to the Hotel staff—was wonderful. Our family was truly impressed. (Thank you so much, Ms. F-sawa!) Since it was peak season, check-in took quite a while, but thanks to our Diamond member benefit of late check-out, check-out went smoothly. Next time we’d like to come at a different time. Even though it was our first trip with our dog, we felt at ease and had a comfortable stay. We’d love to stay again.

It was spacious and comfortable. The artificial Onsen felt like a proper Onsen. It might be a good option for a Multiple Night Stay. This time, I came to Nasu to dine at a certain restaurant, and even though it was No Meals Included, I was surprised at how affordable it was. I’d like to try other Room types as well.

It was our first visit, and it turned into an even better weekend than we expected. After making the Reservation, we were happy to receive an email with recommendations for stylish spots nearby. It saved us the trouble of researching on our own and gave us peace of mind. They also share what to bring and other helpful details, so checking your email is a must. We had lunch at a galette restaurant on the way from the station to the Accommodation, then did some shopping and, after check-in, spent the whole time at the Accommodation. Check-in seems to be controlled by an automatic lock system, so you can’t enter until check-in time. (We arrived about 15 minutes early, so we waited in the car for a bit before checking in.) Sauna → taking our time cooking dinner → staying up late with wine. The next morning: sauna right after waking up, brunch, and coffee. We relaxed as if we were at home while enjoying a truly luxurious stay. The sauna was spacious and got properly hot, and the cold plunge was icy—incredible. (It snowed that day, so I think it may have been close to single digits in °C...) In the Room there were high-quality seasonings and natural wines available for an additional fee. We had no trouble cooking meals there, but if you want to make more elaborate dishes using lots of spices or herbs, bringing those along would make it perfect. Lastly, winter driving conditions made us a little nervous. There was snow buildup and black ice on the road in front of the Accommodation, so please be careful as it can be slippery. In winter, studless tires are a must—and having chains would give extra peace of mind. It feels like a place you could enjoy in any season—we’d love to come back in spring, summer, and autumn too!
