This was my first stay. All staff members welcomed me with a smile. The entire Accommodation was spotless, and the meals and service were excellent—everything was very satisfying. I’m tired from work every day, but this Accommodation was soothing, with greenery visible from the window, the gentle murmur of the Sai River, and the sounds of insects. Thank you very much.

I stayed here for a concert trip this time. Because of the concert end time and traffic, I didn’t arrive until 9:00 PM, and I ended up getting to dinner very late, but you welcomed me with a smile and I had a wonderful time. Breakfast was also delicious, and since I had some time before checkout, I was able to take a walk in Kenrokuen Garden across the street. The location is excellent, and above all, every staff member was smiling and seemed genuinely happy—I would definitely like to stay here again the next time I visit Kanazawa. In the heart of Higashi Chaya District, this Accommodation lets you stay as if living in a Kanazawa machiya townhouse, and it remains one of the most memorable Hotels I have ever stayed in. As soon as you step inside, the gentle scent of wood fills the air and naturally calms you. While preserving the charm of an old machiya, the interior has been refined into a modern, sophisticated space, and my stay was comfortable from start to finish. The passage garden leading from the entrance to the living room reinterprets a traditional machiya layout as a contemporary art gallery, creating a distinctive atmosphere from the moment you arrive. With part of one living-room wall opened up, it retains that classic machiya serenity while adding just the right sense of openness. On the first floor, warmth from natural wood is balanced beautifully with a palette of brown, white, cream, and black. Everything—from pendant lights to furniture and small details—has been carefully chosen for a cohesive look that shows great taste down to every corner. The table in particular stood out: its texture evoked Noto washi paper and kurikawa-zome (chestnut husk dyeing), and it felt like local culture and craftsmanship were seamlessly woven into the space. The bath and wash area are modern and spotless in crisp black-and-white tones, and even the scent of Aesop hand soap and bath amenities was wonderfully soothing. Upstairs retains even more of the original wooden character of a machiya, offering a different kind of quiet calm. The bedroom lighting—soft like moonlight—was especially memorable and perfectly suited to the mood. Another unique highlight is being able to whisk matcha in your room. The tea kettle, bowls, and other tools are thoughtfully selected; using vessels that reflect Kanazawa- and Noto-area traditional crafts made preparing matcha yourself feel truly special. With clear instructions provided, it’s easy to enjoy even for first-timers. Unlike having tea at a tourist spot, making matcha in this quiet machiya setting felt deeply relaxing. Open the windows and you can sense both the stillness of this teahouse district and hints of local daily life beyond it. Rather than simply visiting as a tourist, being able to blend into the neighborhood is an experience that’s hard to find at an ordinary Hotel. Breakfast was at Miso Soup Club just a short walk away; I enjoyed a nourishing Japanese breakfast with hearty miso soup packed with ingredients along with egg over rice (tamago kake gohan) and small side dishes. This is an Accommodation I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to savor Kanazawa’s culture, craftsmanship—and unhurried quiet time—with care.

It was our first trip to Kanazawa, and we stayed here as a group of four friends. The accommodation had excellent facilities, including floor heating and air conditioning, and the host was very kind and attentive. The location is very convenient, with Higashi Chaya District, Omicho Market, and Kenrokuen Garden all within walking distance. Situated in a quiet residential area, it offers a peaceful stay. We would love to stay here again in the future! Amenities included shampoo, body soap, sponges for washing the body, toothbrushes, towels, and even a washing machine.

Contrary to my expectations, the Room was clean and relaxing. There was also a washing machine in the Room, so even when I got caught in the rain, I could do laundry that night and didn’t have to worry about what to wear. There was a supermarket directly across the street where I could buy inexpensive groceries, and they also had boxed meals. It was within walking distance of sightseeing spots as well, making it an Accommodation I was very satisfied with. If I visit Kanazawa again for sightseeing, this is definitely an Accommodation I want to stay at next time.

What’s fascinating about Nana’s philosophy is how deliberately it reduces “information density.” Even with just a one-night stay, I could clearly feel the Accommodation’s concept: 1) No excessive signage or posters inside 2) No filling the space with background music 3) Avoiding harsh lighting 4) Minimizing digital noise as much as possible Through the space, sound, light, and service, it conveyed the idea that “silence isn’t emptiness—it’s a state where only what’s necessary remains.” The staff were outstanding from the moment I pulled into the parking area until they saw me off the next morning. I believe this reflects an intentional design by the owners (a couple): creating a place to Clear people’s senses. 5) The main focus is not “people,” but “place” and “nature” → Prioritizing “what you feel” over “who made it.” 6) A commitment to completing the Accommodation as a “work” → Only three rooms; no adding more Facility features. No indiscriminate advertising. → A mindset of “only those who understand need to come,” aligned with traditional house restoration values. You could say this is for travelers whose purpose is to feel restored and re-centered: 7) Your body resets in the Onsen 8) Your senses reset through fire and food 9) Your mind resets through satoyama landscapes and an old folk house → Redefining travel from consumption to renewal. As tools for restoration, it offers free-flowing natural hot spring water, silence, an aesthetic space, and an Accommodation with high experiential value. → Not just “staying overnight,” but a trip where something changes. Nana’s philosophy feels almost perfectly aligned—its ideas and their realization overlap naturally. Among all the places I’ve stayed in Japan over the past few years, this was the best. In other words, choosing Nana—even for just one night—as a journey to re-center my senses and experience it as a complete work turned out exactly right. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Although it was very close to the Higashi Chaya District, it was in a quiet location where we could forget the bustle of the area. The Room had beautiful vermilion walls, and while the building is old, there were no inconveniences. Right after arriving, we were served Yoshihashi’s fresh Japanese confectionery and matcha, which were absolutely delicious. The meals were truly worthy of a high-end restaurant—each dish had deep, wonderful flavor, and the tableware was dazzling yet refined, making it a real pleasure. Breakfast also offered an impressive variety and was delicious; I was moved from the morning by the thick grilled flounder and jibuni. The proprietress and everyone at the Ryokan were courteous, and we could really feel its long-established tradition in a good way.

It felt like spending time at a private home. The complimentary drinks and candies were much appreciated. The kind couple made the stay very comfortable. The breakfast was so delightful that I want to replicate it!

My mother and two of her friends—three women in total—stayed here. All three are in their late senior years, and they told me when I went to pick them up that this was the first ryokan they had ever been so satisfied with. Because of that, I decided to book again for New Year’s next year so I can stay as well, bringing my family and including my mother again. We’re really looking forward to it.

The exterior is stylish, and every Room inside is clean, making it the perfect Hotel for a relaxing stay. The view from the window overlooks Kenrokuen Garden right in front. Since it’s a three-story building, some may find going up and down a bit inconvenient. Additionally, there are no work clothes (yukata) provided, so it's better to bring your own. The bath is spacious with a waterfall shower feature that helps relieve tension.

I had the privilege of spending New Year's for the first time at Kinjohro, one of Kanazawa's most renowned ryokan. With my mother being from Kanazawa and having spent six years studying in this city myself, it had always been a dream to welcome the New Year at Kinjohro. However, I hesitated for a long time, feeling that such a prestigious and traditional ryokan might be beyond my reach. This year, I finally had the opportunity to visit Kanazawa with my son and fulfill this long-held dream. The elegant architecture, refined furnishings harmonizing sophistication and grace, exquisite Kutani ware and Kaga Yuzen kimonos—everything exuded timeless beauty. The traditional Kaga cuisine featuring local specialties like yellowtail fish, crab, duck dishes such as kamo-jibu stew prepared with care using authentic ingredients—and even the osechi New Year’s feast—were simply exceptional. The room and bath filled with the soothing scent of cypress wood added to an unforgettable experience. Above all else was the heartfelt hospitality provided by staff who embody over 130 years of tradition in this historic city of Kanazawa. It felt as though we were transported back in time to experience the grandeur of Kaga Hyakumangoku culture. On New Year's morning after enjoying osechi cuisine, we joined other guests along with the owner, proprietress (okami), head chef, staff members and their families for a mochi-pounding event at the entrance. The friendly atmosphere shared among everyone under glimpses of blue sky through clouds made it truly special—the taste of kinako-coated mochi will remain etched in our memories alongside our stay at Kinjohro. Just steps away from Kenrokuen Garden! The location is incredibly close, making it perfect for sightseeing. The area outside is lively with tourists, so you might hear some chatter depending on the time of day, but personally, I found it added to the travel atmosphere and was quite pleasant. The room was clean and well-organized, allowing for a very comfortable stay. I specifically searched for "accommodation with a sauna" this time, and this place was an excellent value within that category. Both the sauna and bath were fantastic! A couple of minor points: even when fully closed, the bathroom door let a bit of water leak out, and the drainage could have been better. Also, having a microwave would be an added bonus. Other than that, everything exceeded expectations overall! I’d definitely choose this accommodation again when visiting Kanazawa.
