I stayed in a newly renovated Room, and it was wonderful. The in-room perks were excellent. In particular, the all-you-can-eat gelato was an incredibly generous service—perfect after the Onsen—and I enjoyed trying many different flavors. Everything was delicious. The pre-dinner aperitif can be chosen from the menu, and the lounge coffee machine is truly high-quality, so I used it many times. Both the quality and quantity of the meals were very satisfying, and what impressed me most was the staff. There were many young team members, but everyone’s hospitality was outstanding. Some staff members spent a long time chatting with elderly guests because they were approached for conversation, yet they responded without showing any displeasure at all—I was genuinely impressed. You can also enjoy two different types of Onsen water, and I think this Accommodation offers excellent value for money. I will definitely return again. Thank you very much for taking such great care of me.

Thank you for the wonderful service—it made our stay truly exceptional. First, I accidentally made a Reservation with the wrong gender, but you quickly brought us yukata in different sizes, which was very helpful. With fewer guests staying, the attentive, personalized service really stood out. We also enjoyed the complimentary pudding—it was delicious. The Onsen was available at night as well, so we could relax and take our time. The bed felt a bit firm and slightly uncomfortable to sleep on, but other than that we had no complaints at all. Also, it was pouring rain at checkout, and you kindly handed us towels—this helped us so much. We truly appreciated your thoughtful attention to detail. We would love to stay here again when we visit Kusatsu.

It was a wonderful ryokan. I was very particular about choosing a place to stay, and it took me about 15 hours in total searching across Ikkyu, Agoda, Rakuten Travel, and TikTok. I wanted a ryokan rather than a hotel; kaiseki rather than a buffet; private dining or in-room meals rather than a dining hall; a Japanese-style breakfast; an open-air bath with natural scenery; reservable private baths or hot-spring water in the room; a quiet property without noisy group tours; within walking distance of Yubatake; a spacious room for three people; on-site payment rather than credit-card prepayment, and more. In the end, I was able to stay in an ideal location and it was fantastic. I was especially satisfied with the open-air baths in the morning and at night, and the delicious meals served in a private dining room. Our arrival ended up being later than planned due to our circumstances, but they kindly accommodated us, for which we are very grateful. Since it’s such a major tourist destination, I assumed it would be all hotels, but I’m so glad there is an authentic restaurant-style ryokan like this—thanks to it we had an amazing time and were truly happy.

At dusk after arriving at the inn, I noticed one of the rear tires on our rental car was flat. There was no spare tire, and when I called the rental car office, they told me to drive slowly to a service station or similar place and have it repaired. When I asked at the front desk, the owner kindly listened and even arranged a repair through an acquaintance. As a result, it was fixed safely before checkout—and at a friendly price. Car trouble that suddenly strikes in an unfamiliar place can be stressful. For a moment I thought our sightseeing plans for the next day were ruined, but thanks to their help we were able to enjoy our trip as planned. I can’t thank the owner enough. Thank you so much. About the inn: it’s an older building, but it’s very clean and well maintained. There are lovely fresh flowers arranged here and there in the rooms and hallways. We used one of the private open-air baths—the larger corner bath—in the morning. The view was wonderful, and I highly recommend bathing in the morning! Most noteworthy is how excellent the meals were. The Shinshu Premium Beef for dinner had sweet marbling and was absolutely delicious—I strongly recommend choosing the “Luxury Meal Plan” so you can enjoy it! The sashimi included Shinshu salmon and char (iwana). Both dinner and breakfast featured many delicious local specialties. Thank you for such wonderful meals. We chose this inn somewhat casually for sightseeing in Obuse, but it became a truly great memory. Thank you very much.

This was our first stay here on a trip with four friends. The Room, the meals, and above all the service from all staff were outstanding. Every staff member was courteous and kind, and we truly felt first-class hospitality—worthy of a five-star Accommodation. Thanks to you, we were able to relax throughout our stay and enjoy a special time. The clean and comfortable Room, the wide variety of delicious and thoughtfully prepared buffet dishes, and the wonderful Onsen—all exceeded our expectations. Everyone in our group was very satisfied with this trip. When we visit Kusatsu again, we would definitely like to stay at Hotel Ichii again.

It was a trip for two women, and we were able to relax, and the food was delicious. We both ended up like little piggies (oh—meant as a compliment!). We’d love to visit again when we get the chance.

We stayed for one night and two days with our grandchild. As mentioned in other reviews, the building and rooms are indeed a bit old, but everything was properly cleaned and we had no issues. With the all-you-can-play passport, we enjoyed bowling, the pool, craft-making, festival-style games, quizzes, a stamp rally, and more—plenty to keep us entertained. The free shuttle bus from the hotel to Yubatake at night was extremely helpful; it was my first time seeing the Yubatake illuminations, and I was surprised by how many tourists were there. Even though it was summer, walking around Yubatake felt pleasantly cool—almost a little chilly—which was wonderful. The next day we used the hotel shuttle again because I wanted my grandchild to enjoy street food and try the yumomi experience as well. We had only ever visited Kusatsu in winter before, so this was our first summer visit. While news reports talked about extreme heat in Tokyo, we were amazed at how cool and comfortable Kusatsu was in summer. At night we didn’t need air conditioning in our room—it actually felt slightly chilly. Summer in Kusatsu is great. The food was delicious, and everyone at the front desk, reception counters, and shop—especially the international staff—was very polite and pleasant. Every staff member provided excellent service; I was truly impressed. This hotel is highly recommended for families with children as well. We would love to visit again. The only downside is that the hotel is so large that it’s easy to get lost—especially when trying to find the baths (as other reviews mentioned), and yes, we got lost too. Overall though it was a wonderful hotel. Thank you very much.

We stayed at Nadeshiko no Ma. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the Room was spacious and spotless, the in-room bath with free-flowing natural hot spring water was excellent, and the meals were truly delicious. This is an Accommodation we will definitely return to.

This was our second stay, the first in two years. The buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, including local specialties unique to the area. Both the buffet staff and the front desk staff were very kind and attentive, which made our stay truly comfortable. In particular, the buffet staff explained things in a way that was easy for our child to understand and spoke to us in a friendly manner, which we really appreciated. When we stay in Kusatsu again, we would love to choose this Accommodation. Thank you very much.

My first time in Kusatsu Onsen. Since my skin is sensitive, I did some research and found that the Jizo-no-Yu source is relatively gentle, so I chose this Accommodation because it draws water from that source. It’s a historic Accommodation, and the building has a charming atmosphere. For dinner, we chose the Joshu beef Plan and it was delicious. Breakfast had most side dishes set out in advance; only the rice and miso soup were served hot. It might feel a bit light for big eaters, but I thought it was just the right amount since we planned to snack while walking around after checkout. Best of all was the private bath you can use exclusively. Maybe our timing was lucky, but it was always available whenever we went. Even though Jizo-no-Yu felt hot at first, once we stirred the water before getting in, we quickly got used to it. It didn’t sting at all, and my skin became smooth right away—something I’d never experienced before. Of course, it warmed me through to the core as well. We could relax and fully enjoy Jizo-no-Yu without worrying about anyone else, and it was so comfortable that we ended up not using the gender-segregated baths at all. I’d love to stay here again when I visit Kusatsu.

The friendly staff who chatted with us left a great impression. There were plenty of chairs in the lobby, so we had no trouble even at check-out. The meals were served at just the right time, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The room was also a comfortable size. It was an easy walking distance to Yubatake, and it wasn’t overly crowded, so we were able to relax and enjoy our stay.

I was able to stay in a private room at an affordable price. The building isn’t new, but you can enjoy a retro Showa-era vibe. The bath felt like it was all to myself, and it’s close to Yubatake!

We checked in early and enjoyed the Onsen before dinner. The perfectly comfortable Onsen temperature was wonderful! Drinks after the bath were also great! There was a wide variety at the dinner buffet, but we were so full that we couldn’t try everything. Breakfast also had a great selection and was delicious. One thing to mention: it was disappointing that there was hardly any hot water from the faucet in our Room. We could see the Yubatake lit up at night from our Room. We actually wanted to take a walk to the Yubatake right in front of us, but it started raining and we couldn’t go, which was a shame. The exterior of the building showed its age, but choosing Daitokan was absolutely the right decision. We’d like to stay again. Thank you very much.

The entire Hotel was very clean, and all the staff were kind and helpful, which made it a comfortable stay. The food was also delicious, and we were very satisfied. The Room is very simple, but that simplicity made it a calming space where we could relax.

I stayed on the Shinshu Beef Plan. The meat was more generous than expected and absolutely delicious. There were also plenty of fresh vegetables, and the simple preparation let me fully enjoy their natural flavors. The Facility is old, but it has many furnishings that convey its history, and the overall atmosphere lets you immerse yourself in a Showa-era vibe. Perhaps due to energy-saving measures, some corridors and the post-bath lounge felt a bit dark at night and were slightly unsettling, but I can imagine how challenging it must be to maintain such large-scale facilities. The Onsen is one I want to visit again and again—please keep up the great work!

The Onsen water quality was excellent. From arrival until departure the next morning, we could use the large public bath at any time, and we enjoyed soaking in it many times. The building was kept very clean, and the staff at the Accommodation were wonderful. Although it is located in the central area of Shiga Kogen, it is a quiet environment. The air felt completely different from the heat down below. I think it is also a great base for trekking to places like Takamagahara and Higashidateyama. The only disappointment was that the weather was bad, so we couldn’t see the spectacular Northern Alps view that should have been visible from the window. Next time, I’d like to come back for a retry—possibly during ski season as well.

I stayed here this time because I wanted to relax in the Onsen. The large public bath fed by the Shirahata source was especially wonderful. The private bath with Yubatake water was hot, but I could take my time and unwind at my own pace, enjoying it while opening the window to cool off. I had seen in other Reviews that dinner is plentiful, so I held back from trying street food while exploring the area. As rumored, I was very satisfied with both the portion size and the taste. While I was dining, they prepared my futon and also thoughtfully replaced items like teacups and provided iced water—coming back from the Onsen to a refreshing drink of water was truly delightful. Stylish Accommodations such as Resort Hotels are popular these days, but this stay reminded me that a Japanese Ryokan feels most relaxing for Japanese guests. Thank you for a wonderful memory.

Good Points: - The building is well-constructed, so noise from neighbors or upstairs was hardly noticeable. - The staff paid attention to details, which was greatly appreciated. - The Room was odorless and clean. - Wi-Fi worked properly. - My request for a low pillow was accommodated perfectly. Areas for Improvement: - All the towels seemed to have an oily film and did not absorb water as well as new towels would. A fellow guest at the bath also mentioned that they had never encountered towels with such poor absorbency before. - The mirror was folded inside the closet, and I only noticed it at checkout when I wanted to use it. It would be helpful if it were placed in a more noticeable location.
