This Accommodation in Kusatsu, one of Japan’s premier Onsen destinations, offered such outstanding cuisine that it made us want to visit for the food rather than the Onsen. One beautifully crafted dish after another was served on a lovely white lacquered table. Everything was delicious and a delight for both the eyes and the palate. Breakfast was equally satisfying, and you could really feel the care and effort put into it from early morning. Of course, the Onsen was also excellent, with a location right in front of Jizo Onsen. The three private baths with free-flowing hot spring water were not by Reservation; instead, we checked availability on a tablet and entered when open, which let us enjoy all three without any stress. The Room was spacious, and the staff’s attentive yet unobtrusive service made everything very comfortable. After returning home, I’ve been recommending it to my friends as a must-visit.

Only 10 Rooms on a spacious property. The grove garden right in front of you is a private view (guests cannot enter), giving you the true feel of a vacation home. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Room, the semi-open-air bath in the Room, the open-air bath at the large public bath, and dinner featuring an array of premium ingredients considered luxurious in Japanese cuisine, as well as breakfast with just the right portion size. If we had to make one small request, it would be that the bath towels were a bit thicker.

It was my first stay in a while. The gorge scenery is wonderfully relaxing. The service was exceptionally attentive, with just the right amount of distance for comfort. The staff were thoughtful, and the meals were delicious. This is a lovely Accommodation that makes me want to return every time.

It was my first visit in a while, and once again the Onsen was wonderful—I thoroughly enjoyed soaking in two different natural hot spring sources. The meals were delicious and very satisfying. The guests were considerate, and it was very quiet, so I could truly relax. The staff were kind as well, and I recommend this place to anyone who likes a small, cozy property. Thank you for taking such good care of me. I will visit again.

The comfort of falling asleep while gazing at the stars. The bed sheets also felt like towels and were very pleasant. Since it’s in the mountains, I wasn’t expecting much from the meals, but everything was delicious. All of the male staff who served us were friendly, and their smiles were wonderful. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to visit again in a different season.

The building and Rooms are certainly old, but the view from the lobby, the delicious meals made with care using local ingredients, the hot Onsen, and above all, the pleasant hospitality of the staff made our stay very comfortable. Thank you for taking such good care of us. I would like to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

We stayed here a few years ago and loved it, so we returned for a group trip to celebrate our 60th birthdays. With a Room overlooking the Yubatake, high-quality Onsen baths, and delicious meals, our friends were very satisfied and it became a wonderful trip. The large public bath was outstanding as expected, but we were also impressed by how well stocked the amenities corner in the changing area was. They even had face sheet masks. We wanted to take our time with dinner this time, so we chose the dining venue “Kimi no Roman.” The food was delicious, and we also enjoyed learning about the ingredients thanks to the staff’s thoughtful explanations. Breakfast was buffet-style. There were many creative dishes featuring local ingredients, and everything was excellent. We felt that even if we had chosen the dinner buffet, we would have been satisfied. Since we needed to go to an annex building for the large public bath and breakfast, we walked back and forth along the connecting corridor. The furnishings and Facilities were polished to a shine, with beautiful ikebana displays throughout. There were also impressive arrangements in the large public bath area itself, giving a sense of refinement that only a long-established Accommodation can offer. All staff members were kind; when we asked for photos, they even took them from atop a step ladder so they could include the Yubatake in the shot. This is an excellent Accommodation with attentive hospitality in every detail—both in its services and its upkeep. The souvenir shop on the first floor is large with an extensive selection, so you can find everything there. They also have a corner featuring Asama Shuzo (my favorite), where I was able to buy various items. Guests who spend 2,500 yen or more receive delicious cookies.

From the moment I was picked up, the staff made a great impression, and as soon as I stepped into the Hotel, I was soothed by a wonderful aroma scent. I was shown to a private Room to check in. The Room had a simple design and was very comfortable to stay in. I also enjoyed choosing my favorite scent with the aroma diffuser in the Room. This time I joined the 1-night, 2-day fasting course. Since it wasn’t a water-only fast, I had carrot juice, homemade umeboshi (pickled plum), bancha tea, and more for dinner and again the next morning. After checkout, they treated me to rice porridge, miso soup, handmade umeboshi, hana ingen beans (runner beans), and bancha tea—everything was very satisfying. Personally, the hana ingen beans slowly simmered over two days with beet sugar were so delicious that I couldn’t help asking if they were available for purchase. After check-in, I also received a brown-rice onigiri with umeboshi, which I enjoyed on my long-distance bus ride home. There is no TV in the Room, but Wi‑Fi is available so you can use your smartphone. However, since it was such a good opportunity, I tried not to use my phone during my stay as much as possible. Time flew by as I read health magazines in the lounge with herbal tea in hand; opened the window in my guest room to read my own book while listening to birdsong; and reviewed personal finances that had been put off due to everyday busyness. From the Onsen bath area in the morning, you can see Mt. Asama—the view was truly wonderful. If there’s one thing to mention: since exercise is part of my routine personally, having showers in every Room would have made it even more comfortable by allowing me to rinse off quickly after working out. Other than that minor point, everything exceeded expectations—the staff were lovely throughout—and it was a stay I would definitely like to repeat.

Because it is located a little away from Yubatake, we were able to spend a very quiet and relaxing time. The interior has a refined, design-forward atmosphere, yet since the building was originally a cottage and has been renovated, it also feels wonderfully cozy with the warmth and scent of wood. The guest-room bath with free-flowing Onsen water direct from the source was a bit hot at first, but once we got used to it, it felt amazing and allowed us to fully enjoy Kusatsu’s Onsen. After bathing, we felt warmed through to the core and our skin felt pleasantly moisturized. Even the amenities such as lotion were high quality, and we could sense attention to detail throughout. Both dinner and breakfast were truly outstanding, and each dish reflected great care in ingredient selection. The vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, and Joshu beef grilled over a wood fire had an especially fragrant savoriness that left a strong impression. The octopus rice at dinner and the white rice cooked in an earthenware pot at breakfast were also exceptional—perfect with grated yam and bonito flakes. It was a meal where you could really appreciate how delicious the rice itself is. We are not very knowledgeable about wine or sake, but there was an impressive selection, and the well-informed master recommended options tailored to our preferences—making this Accommodation particularly appealing for those who love drinks. Some past Reviews included harsh comments, but after staying ourselves, we could clearly see sincere efforts to improve; it felt like this Accommodation continues to evolve into something even better. Even understatedly put, it was an exceptional stay. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Facility offerings, Onsen baths, cuisine, and hospitality. It was such a wonderful Accommodation that we would absolutely want to stay again when visiting Kusatsu.

Staying at Naraya for my first trip to Kusatsu Onsen was truly the best choice. From the moment I arrived until I left, I received warm, heartfelt hospitality in every situation, and I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. The staff’s thoughtful attention to detail could be felt throughout, making this a wonderful Accommodation that made me want to return. Both dinner and breakfast were served in a private dining room, allowing me to take my time in a calm atmosphere. Dinner in particular was outstanding—every dish from the appetizers to the final dessert was delicious, and there were fun touches such as having sushi prepared during the meal. It was such an enjoyable experience that I honestly thought, “I want to come back just for this food.” The Onsen was also excellent; my skin felt wonderfully smooth after bathing, and it may be my favorite water of any Onsen I’ve visited. The location is another highlight—just a short walk to Yubatake—so I enjoyed strolling around many times in the evening, at night, and again the next morning. I was completely satisfied with everything: the cuisine, the Onsen, the service, and the location. There are so many more wonderful things I could mention; it made my first trip to Kusatsu Onsen truly memorable. I would love to stay at Naraya again. Thank you very much for such a lovely time.

I stay here every summer, and I was just as satisfied this year as always. The meals at this Hotel are excellent in both quality and quantity, though the portions may be too large for very elderly guests to finish. The Onsen is a Kusatsu-style sulfur spring, perfect for relaxing both body and mind. The Room has been renovated and feels bright and clean. For those who have given up their driver’s license, the on-demand Shuttle Service from the Hotel to the bus terminal is greatly appreciated. All staff members—at the front desk, Shuttle Service, and elsewhere—are kind and courteous. The international staff in the restaurant had mastered Japanese, and their service was outstanding. This time I stayed 4 nights and 5 days, but ideally I would like to stay for about a week to 10 days. I would like to continue staying here as a repeat guest.

The entire property was spotlessly clean, which made our stay very comfortable. All the staff were polite and pleasant. Both the first-floor lounge and the third-floor common room had a relaxing atmosphere, so we could unwind not only in our Room but also in other areas. The tasteful floral arrangements that weren’t too showy were also a lovely touch.

I gifted my 92-year-old mother an Onsen trip for her birthday. The accommodation had a very charming atmosphere, and the Onsen, with its high-concentration sulfur spring, was excellent. My elderly mother enjoyed soaking in the bath four times. The meals were also delicious. This time we stayed for just one night, but next time we hope to have a multiple night stay. The staff were kind and warmly welcomed us. We created wonderful memories. Thank you very much!

My husband, our grandchild, and I stayed here as a group of three. Our second-grade grandchild loves Onsen, but the large public bath was too hot to enter; the open-air bath was fine. We went in together three times and were very satisfied. I thought the door for the shortcut to Yubatake was locked, and I ended up speaking to a male restaurant staff member while he looked busy cleaning up. When I asked if it seemed locked, he kindly walked over with me to check and opened the door for us. He was an international staff member, but his Japanese was excellent, and his polite, pleasant service made me very happy. All of the restaurant staff were wonderful as well, including the chef making omelets. Everyone was friendly, we enjoyed our meal, and we left with a great impression. Thank you very much. This was our first stay at this Accommodation, and we really liked it—the atmosphere was great, and the Room was spacious and very relaxing. It’s also close to Yubatake, so getting to Yubatake in the daytime and when it’s lit up at night, as well as shopping for souvenirs or grabbing a quick drink or meal, was no problem. Since it isn’t right around Yubatake, we were able to spend the nights quietly. We’ll definitely stay here again the next time we visit Kusatsu.

This time, the meals were upgraded. It’s not like the all-inclusive plans at luxury Accommodations, but it’s just right. Everything feels just right. From the quality of the Onsen I love, to the place being old yet always kept clean and tidy, and how I never get bored no matter how many times I visit or how long I stay. I don’t know why I love it this much, but I’ll be back!

Everything was excellent—the Room, the baths, the food, the staff service, and the pool. We chose a loft-style Room, and it was very clean! However, for families with small children, we can’t recommend it because the ladder is steep and high. The baths were not crowded, so we could relax; the large public bath was very clean. We also had the pool almost to ourselves, and there were banana boats and other items available, which looked like a lot of fun. The buffet had a wide variety of options and everything was delicious. There were plenty of choices at breakfast as well. Our whole family loved it and we’d like to come again. Thank you very much.

First of all, we truly felt the hospitality of the proprietress and the staff. We were convinced they genuinely think, “Thank you for coming,” from the bottom of their hearts. The Onsen is, of course, outstanding. Gazing at the rocky surface overflowing with natural hot spring water, you can feel an immense sense of history. The meals were also absolutely wonderful. We were completely satisfied with both the taste and the portions. Just when we thought it would be a classic kaiseki course, there were creative twists that made it even more enjoyable. The tableware was also exceptionally refined and inspiring. It’s true that features such as the age of the building and facilities, and having only stairs with no elevator, may come down to personal preference depending on your generation, but for us as a couple they were not drawbacks at all. If you’re visiting Kusatsu Onsen, we think this is an Accommodation you should stop by at least once.

The welcome drink and free parking at Nao Resort Hotel were great, and the staff were absolutely amazing throughout our stay. The Naraya Group staff are consistently outstanding. We booked during a time sale at this price, and even breakfast was included—I almost felt bad. I was also happy that the card payment included the Hot Spring Tax. We had a wonderful time around Yubatake. Unfortunately, I couldn’t use the Onsen for personal reasons, but my sister and mother were truly impressed by Ichinoyu’s waters, several nearby baths they could enjoy many times, and Soan’s private bath. Thank you again—everything was perfect.

I visit Kusatsu Onsen every year, and Sakurai Hotel is the best. First of all, the hot spring water is excellent. It also seems to have been renovated, and both the Room and the changing area were very clean. The hair dryer was the latest ReFa model. The food was delicious as well—especially breakfast, which left me completely full. The grilled salmon was great. I’d like to come again next year.
